Chapter 39: The Arrival of Mork
Since the Master of Eternity was willing to grant her spells, it meant it recognized her.
But if it recognized her, why did it ignore her when she sought it out?
This left Airael quite puzzled.
Could it be that this thing is a tsundere?
Airael’s mind opened up at the thought.
An image of a tsundere loli involuntarily floated in her mind.
Shaking her head, she dispelled the unrealistic notion.
It was shocking enough that the Master of Eternity had its own consciousness; if it also had human-like traits and a distinct personality, it would be downright terrifying.
Unable to find a clear answer, Airael quickly gave up.
Rather than overthinking, it would be better to find an opportunity to communicate more with the Staff of Eternity. Who knows, maybe a miracle would happen, and the staff would notice her.
“Celia, Aurora, let’s go train!”
Snapping back to reality, Airael spoke to the two in front of her.
“Yes!”
Then, the three cloaked figures found a location to begin their training.
As they practiced, a tall figure cloaked in a similar garb appeared not far away, watching them closely.
Neither Airael nor Celia and Aurora noticed the peeping presence.
The figure made no further moves, simply observing them.
The trio continued their sparring as usual.
Against the two who had yet to reach the hero tier, Airael certainly wouldn’t wield the Staff of Eternity, a weapon of mass destruction; a regular staff would suffice.
Fire Dragon Technique!
With a wave of her staff, Airael conjured two fire dragons that soared toward Celia and Aurora.
Faced with the fearsome fire dragons, Celia and Aurora exchanged glances.
Then, without flinching, they charged forward, emanating a green glow to rush toward the fire dragons—or more accurately, toward Airael behind them.
Though the fire dragons were powerful, the two were confident they could withstand it.
The cloaked observer’s expression shifted uneasily upon seeing the green glow on Celia and Aurora.
But still, the figure made no move, continuing its surveillance.
As the two rushed directly at Airael, she admired their courage, yet she didn’t hold back.
The fire dragons wouldn’t harm them.
But who guaranteed that she didn’t have a trick up her sleeve?
Having trained together for a long time, Airael had a good grasp of their abilities.
Just as Celia and Aurora burst through the fire dragons, they were greeted by two bolts of lightning heading straight for them.
Though these lightning strikes appeared ordinary, Airael specialized in lightning magic.
Thus, their power far surpassed that of the earlier spectacular fire dragons.
However, Celia and Aurora had their guard up.
Sensing the danger, they immediately dodged, narrowly avoiding the incoming lightning.
After evading, they charged toward Airael once again.
Now, they were within close range.
Airael’s expression turned surprised.
Then, a wry smile crept across her face as she was forced to engage in close combat with Celia and Aurora.
Under the onslaught from the two, Airael had no choice but to defend.
Once on the back foot, she found it challenging to turn the tide.
Celia and Aurora’s relentless teamwork kept coming at her without pause.
They didn’t even give her a moment to catch her breath.
In no time, Airael exposed a flaw.
Celia and Aurora seized the opportunity to attack Airael from both sides.
In a critical moment, Airael conjured a Magic Power Shield beside her to block their attack.
Disappointment spread across the faces of Celia and Aurora as their strikes were thwarted.
“You don’t need to look so down; you’re strong already. If I weren’t at the hero tier, the hasty Magic Power Shield wouldn’t have been enough to withstand your onslaught.”
Upon hearing Airael’s words, the two felt somewhat reassured.
“Good fight!”
Suddenly, a voice reached their ears.
“Who is it?”
Airael and the others immediately turned cautiously toward the source of the voice—the cloaked figure.
The figure no longer concealed itself, revealing its presence to Airael and the others.
As Airael laid eyes on the unveiled figure, her brows furrowed.
Although the face was obscured, the build looked very familiar.
“I think there’s no need for us to hide anymore.”
With that, the cloaked figure removed its hood.
Mork!
Airael’s heart jolted with surprise.
Celia and Aurora were equally astonished upon seeing Mork.
In the next moment, they positioned Airael behind them.
Though Mork was formidable, they were ready to fight if necessary.
“I’m not here to battle you; our fight is over. I only came to confirm something in my heart.”
“What do you mean by that?” Airael asked.
“Simple. The contract I signed with the Orcs has ended, and I no longer need to fight for the Orcs or the humans.”
“Why should I believe you?”
Despite his words, Airael didn’t trust his claims.
“You don’t have to believe me, but I come with no malice. I truly just want to confirm a few things, or else, you wouldn’t be standing here right now.”
Airael scoffed at Mork’s overwhelming confidence. “You are indeed strong, but I’m no pushover.”
With that, Airael wielded the Staff of Eternity.
This caught Mork’s attention as he noted the change in Airael’s weapon.
Seeing Airael’s staff, an expression of realization spread across Mork’s face.
He then looked at Airael and said, “You’re not humans, are you?”
Hearing this, Airael and the others exchanged glances, alarmed.
“I don’t understand what you’re talking about.”
“No need to hide; there are no humans around here.”
“Mork, what exactly do you want here today?”
Airael neither confirmed nor denied, instead shifting the topic.
Mork huffed, “I told you, I just want to confirm a few things. And I mean you no harm. Although I’m a Dark Elf, a banished one at that, we’re still of the same race! Besides, I noticed during our earlier battle that you never killed any of our kin. I almost fell to your hand. You didn’t intend to kill me, but that attack, had I failed to dodge it, would surely have incapacitated me.”
Airael remained silent at Mork’s words.
He wasn’t wrong.
They acted that way due to a certain Elven law.
Because of the disastrous outcomes from prior internal conflicts, the Elven Race forbade infighting unless under special circumstances, like passive defense. Thus, even severely guilty elves were merely exiled to survive on their own.
