Chapter 382: The Competition Ends
The final day arrived, and the remaining two contestants did not engage in battle immediately. Instead, they first headed east to the Fortress, defeating the student left behind to guard the place and destroying their academy flag, causing the Fortress Academy to withdraw.
Afterwards, the two contestants faced off in the open space of the central school building. This location was far from both of their bases, allowing them to fight without restraint.
Jack had changed into a neatly clean dark blue robe, with light gold patterns at the collar and cuffs, making him look quite handsome, prompting many students to cheer.
Lolan Hill still wore her black veil, not revealing her face, only leaving her transparent blue eyes and silver hair cascading over her shoulders and chest visible. She held her winged scepter in her slender white wrists, standing motionless.
The silver-haired girl was unknown to the students of other colleges in Emanas. Many began to inquire about her, but there were few effective pieces of information.
“Who is she? That outfit looks really nice.”
“I don’t know.”
“I haven’t seen her before, but her back view is indeed very beautiful.”
“The one before me said she is undoubtedly the next head of our Temple Academy,” a student in white robes stated.
“Unseen, nameless, yet so sure?” Others were skeptical.
“Of course, ask any student from the Temple Academy, and they will give you the same answer.” The student was confident, and the surrounding students from the Temple Academy rarely opposed, accepting this statement.
“If you experienced that night, you would be infected and moved by her,” a priest whispered.
In the much-anticipated arena, Jack looked at the silver-haired girl opposite him and did not have any other thoughts. His mind was more focused on how to win.
With the temporary referee’s whistle, the battle began.
Without the advantage of the Temple Academy’s grounds, Lolan Hill could not deploy the Pure Sanctuary domain, but she gained immense freedom as a result.
Her pure white wings fluttered silently, carrying the veiled girl into the sky, dodging the magical cannons being shot at her.
Though she possessed strong support capabilities due to her Angel Sequence, her individual combat ability was inferior compared to others. However, she wasn’t completely defenseless.
A slender sword of light formed in the air, following Lolan Hill as she moved through the sky, then shooting out to pierce the golems below, instantly paralyzing them. Seizing this momentary gap, she turned her wings and drew a large arc in the sky, diving down with a pure white sword aimed directly at Jack.
Jack, protected by the golem barrier, remained calm and unmoved until Lolan Hill’s sword light reached him. Only then did he suddenly raise his staff, causing complex patterns to flash across the ground, followed by blue flames rising, surging towards the young lady, engulfing her.
Intense light burst forth, blinding everyone. Jack slightly closed his eyes, guessing the outcome of his attack. Such powerful electric currents should be effective.
“Would Jack senior like to concede?” A clear, ethereal voice sounded nearby, as if spoken right beside him.
Jack opened his eyes, looking at the silver-haired girl before him. She had a pair of pure white wings spread behind her, wearing tight black clothing, with smooth silver hair under her hood. Her transparent blue eyes were beneath a semi-transparent black veil, giving her an air of mystery.
The girl raised her silver sword, pointing it at Jack’s neck, her feet lightly touching the golem. As the air flowed, her skirt slowly fell, and she softly spoke.
Jack felt a refreshing mist touch his face, realizing she had used a circular water shield to divert the current, thus easily breaking through the barrier.
“I…” Jack glanced at the motionless golem below him and the gazes of the surrounding students, hesitating for a few seconds before finally bowing slightly.
“I concede.”
He was only at Sequence 5, and once the girl got close, there was no chance for a comeback.
The judge announced the victory, and the arena erupted in thunderous cheers. The special and peculiar college competition finally came to an end.
—
Three days later, at the Temple Academy.
“Lohil, I’ve prepared the luminescent flowers you wanted,” Cisena told the girl entering the main hall.
“Thank you, Cisena senior,” the girl replied with a hint of joy. This would finally put an end to the farce.
“It’s nothing, just a small matter. What do you need so many luminescent flowers for? Are you making potions?” Cisena asked curiously, having never heard of Lohil being able to make potions before.
“Well, this… It’s a secret,” Lohil said, closing one eye playfully. She didn’t want to lie nor explain the complicated reasons.
“Alright, I guess there’s no helping it since you’re now the chief.”
“How about you continue as the chief? I think this position is troublesome,” Lohil said, counting the materials with a hint of amusement. She had forced the position upon herself just a few days ago.
“No, no, let me enjoy some peaceful days. Besides, I’m graduating soon,” Cisena quickly declined. She wouldn’t foolishly take back a reliable, cute, and popular successor she had found.
After Lolan Hill finished counting, she held the basket full of herbs in her arms, preparing to move these materials. But as she was about to leave, she remembered something.
“Cisena senior, have you seen Ingrid?”
“Ingrid should be at the Starlight Cathedral. Is there anything you need from her?”
“I plan to return the winged scepter used in the event.”
“Oh? You’re such a good kid. Most people would have kept it for themselves. But it’s not urgent; they seem to be planning to give it to you.”
“They?” Lolan Hill turned her head, her transparent blue eyes gazing at Cisena.
“Ah, this…” Cisena realized she had let slip, feeling somewhat at a loss.
“Forget it, I’ll ask Ingrid about it later,” Lolan Hill shook her head slightly at Cisena’s expression, not troubling the senior further and turning to leave.
Oh no, I let it slip. Ingrid might hit me. Cisena thought, fully aware of her friend’s nature. Although Ingrid appeared strict and upright like a knight, she never resorted to violence. If she knew that her slip-up caused Lohil to dislike her and prevented her from going to the Holy Land after graduation, she would likely face serious consequences from her friend.
No, I need to seclude myself and focus on developing potions, hoping to contribute something before graduation. Cisena mused, then quickly turned toward the teachers’ office to apply for a secluded laboratory.
