Chapter 38: The Young Lady and the Promise

“Chelsea, put Elain down too…cough, cough.” Another fit of blood-coughing followed.

Lolan Hill slowly walked out from the side of the rock.

Angus was leaning against the stone wall, his body covered in blood. In his arms was his daughter Elain, but this once boisterous young lady no longer had a heartbeat.

“Who!” A maidservant in a black dress and white blouse beside him looked nervously at Lolan Hill, holding a slender sword in her hand.

“Don’t be nervous. I don’t think this Miss is here to kill me,” Angus looked up and saw it was the young lady he had encountered before in ‘Blossoming Summer Leaves’. He relaxed and lowered his head again, looking at his daughter who had fallen into eternal sleep in his arms.

There were dark red bloodstains on Elain’s chest, clearly indicating she had been stabbed through the heart.

It seems like a revenge killing, thought Lolan Hill, then took out three bottles of [Vitality Potion] and threw them over.

“Drink this, it will help with your injuries.”

The butler and maidservant were still somewhat doubtful, but Angus did not refuse; he picked them up and drank them immediately.

Soon, his complexion turned rosy again, and the blood-coughing also eased considerably.

“Thank you.” His voice was still hoarse.

“Mm, it’s nothing. I just saw the惨状 on the road and came to check the situation,” Lolan Hill surveyed this father who had lost his daughter, feeling a bit sympathetic, but did not stay any longer and prepared to leave.

“Can you wait a moment? Kind Miss,” Angus coughed up more blood.

“What is it?” The young lady turned around, somewhat puzzled.

“Are you going to Vergha?”

“Yes.”

“What for?”

“To make some money.”

“I want to make a deal with you.”

“Huh!?”

Angus covered his mouth that was continuously coughing up blood with a handkerchief, and his right hand trembled as he took out a seal from his pocket.

“I want to ask you for a favor,” he said word by word.

Lolan Hill looked at this middle-aged man covered in blood, with some gray hair at his temples and calluses on his hands. His deep blue eyes stared at her, filled with resentment and regret.

The young lady was silent for a while, then spoke, “What kind of favor?”

“The biggest regret of my life is towards my wife. She passed away early, leaving behind only one daughter, but even this sole daughter I couldn’t protect.”

“I wasn’t a good husband. These years, I’ve been away

At that time, after getting drunk, I had a relationship with a woman, who gave birth to my child, now just over 10 years old.

“I’m not sure if her enemies know about their existence, but I can’t take the risk. So I want you to take care of them.”

“Why me? Don’t you still have loyal subordinates around you?”

“Yes, I have no doubt about the loyalty of Sylas and Chelsea, but when the nest is overturned, how can there be whole eggs? If both my public heir and I were to die, the Carites Guild would quickly fall apart and be devoured by others.”

“Without the protection and power of the guild, those hidden opponents would become even more unrestrained, and at that time, a few loyal subordinates would not be enough to resist.”

“So what do you want?”

“I want you to pretend to be my daughter, and then I will transfer all the ownership of the guild to you. All I ask is for you to protect my only child and his mother, so they can live peacefully.”

The butler and the head maid nearby looked surprised at this sudden scene but did not speak up.

“But I don’t look like your daughter, others won’t believe it, and since we’re not familiar with Viergha, it’s easy to be exposed.”

Lolan Hill carefully examined Angus’s physical condition. Although the blood-activating potion temporarily replenished the blood and healed most of the wounds, his lungs were already ruptured, filled with blood foam, and he wouldn’t survive the night, even if Lolan Hill intervened. Angus was not an Extraordinary Being, his constitution was too weak, and some good healing spells and potions were ineffective.

“I’ve always kept my daughter in the West Wind Kingdom. No one in Viergha has seen her; they only heard about her through my words. As long as you have my handwritten will and proof of identity, along with Chelsea and Sylas vouching for you, no one can question you.”

“Not being familiar with Viergha doesn’t matter; Sylas and Chelsea will tell you about the situation there. Besides, my daughter didn’t know much about that place either, which won’t raise suspicion.”

Lolan Hill fell silent for a moment before slowly speaking.

“Although it might be a bit rude, would this really not arouse suspicion?”

The young lady slowly removed her hood, and the three people opposite were momentarily stunned. Silken silver hair slipped out from under the hood, porcelain-white skin, moist lips, slightly upturned nose, and those shocking red crystal-like eyes! She was even more beautiful than the goddesses described in poetry. The contrast between her silvery hair and crimson eyes created a huge visual impact, causing the three to hold their breath involuntarily, afraid of breaking this dreamlike scene like crystal.

Watching the three people across from her stunned expressions, the young lady sighed softly, then pulled her hood back over her head, which finally allowed the three of them to relax.

Since waking up from her slumber, her appearance had become increasingly captivating. Perhaps it was due to some change in her aura, or perhaps it was because of certain innate talents, to the point that even she herself was somewhat troubled. It was good to be beautiful, but such exceptional beauty also brought about many unnecessary troubles.

In fact, Angus had been a bit puzzled before, but now he was completely at ease. No wonder this young lady wanted to conceal her appearance.

“It was my impertinence,” Angus apologized for his previous rudeness.

“I will transfer all the shares of my trading company to you, in exchange for your protection of that mother and son until their child is ready to start a family.”

“The Callites Trading Company is fairly well-known in Vergha, and I own 60% of its shares. This compensation will not disappoint you.”

“Alright, I agree.”

If it weren’t for her mission, Lolan Hill would not want to get involved in this matter. Without using extraordinary means, just by being an ordinary person making money, although it could be troublesome, it wasn’t an unsolvable problem for her. As long as she accumulated enough startup capital, relying on her remembered marketing strategies, she could easily disrupt the still primitive commercial environment. But since someone had offered help, she didn’t want to deliberately take a detour when there was an easier path available.

Hearing the young lady’s consent, Angus finally relaxed and asked Seres to bring out a special contract paper, beginning to write his will.

The contract paper was a special type with anti-counterfeiting properties. Once written on and activated with a specific spell, it would solidify and could not be modified again.

After writing, Angus stamped his handprint and personal seal on it, then dripped some blood onto it, reciting a brief incantation. Finally, the contract paper emitted a faint glow, and the blood dried and hardened, forming a pattern of a nightshade flower.

“You can take my butler and head maid back with you, along with this will, to prove without any doubt that you are my heir and thus entitled to all my possessions.”

Lolan Hill took the will and picked up a pen, preparing to sign her name.

“Should I use my real name or my daughter’s name?”

“Either one is fine, as long as it causes the contract to react.”

“Alright.” Then the young lady wrote a name, neither Elaine nor Lolan Hill. She did not want to be someone else, but she also did not want this matter to affect her life afterward, so she wrote another assumed name, Lacy.
