Chapter 2 Known to All
The fiery wings behind me kept flapping.
Rumble-rumble-rumble—
The sound of the airflow passing by my ears was like the continuous rumbling from a train passing by the side, constantly hitting my eardrums.
After the initial novelty wore off, “flying” no longer seemed as interesting to me; in fact, it was somewhat annoying because it wasn’t as easy as I had imagined. It was like I had to continuously release dead smoke… it was very tiring, and it was also really noisy. The wind was strong, and I couldn’t fully open my eyes, which made it very uncomfortable.
If not for rushing home for dinner, strolling leisurely back would be much more pleasant… ah.
I can already see the castle city.
I should put away the wings…
Flap-flap—
Suddenly flapping twice to accelerate again, I retracted the fiery wings. The dark flames instantly vanished into my body, and then I spread my arms wide in mid-air, forming a “big” character to increase air resistance, gliding towards the direction of the castle city.
By now, the sky had completely turned dark.
Below, the grassland stood firm, and the towering giant city that had just emerged after the rain was splendid with lights after nightfall. Even though it had lost its eggshell and had just experienced unimaginable disasters and conflicts, it still lived up to its reputation as one of the four great castles of humanity.
However, outside the southern part of the city, about a few kilometers away, the raging fire burning on the plain, with thick smoke rising and countless torches forming long dragon-like lines, could be heard even from far away. This made the city’s beautiful night scene appear somewhat somber.
The fire had been burning since I left the city and had not yet been extinguished…
It was burning the bodies of the last batch of soldiers.
“…Ah-choo!”
My nose itched…
I could faintly smell the acrid scent.
Whoosh-whoosh-whoosh—
The height of my glide rapidly decreased. When I was less than thirty meters above the ground, I flipped my body mid-air, palms facing down, and sprayed several bursts of frost mist, using the recoil force to slow down my descent. Shaking slightly, I maintained balance and landed on the lawn with a thud, stumbling forward for a few steps before finally stabilizing myself.
…Next time, I need to look cooler.
“Wh… Who are you!”
Suddenly hearing someone shout, I looked in the direction of the voice and saw several guards wearing silver armor standing far away on the high wall, holding torches in their hands. Their voices were full of tension and vigilance.
I immediately shouted loudly at them, “Knight of the Pontiff, Sylviega!”
In recent days, the city had been strictly controlling entry and exit, not allowing any unknown outsiders to enter, and the city gates were closed after dark. If I wanted to enter now, I had to identify myself…
Victoria gave me a pass badge a few days ago, different from the one Carlos gave me when I first entered the city. This badge was gold and very finely crafted, with the sword pattern no longer looking ugly.
I think the reason for this… might be that this thing is no longer necessary to get through the “eggshell.”
I remember putting the badge in… hmm?
The pocket of my dress was empty.
Oh no…
I seem to have forgotten to bring it out…
“Sylviega Miss… what you used just now was the Frost Order…”
“Black hair…”
“Short stature…”
“…Let her in!”
Rumble-rumble-rumble…
A gap opened in the city gate ahead.
“Sylviega Miss, the people of the castle city will forever remember your deeds. Welcome back to the city!”
On the city wall, someone stomped and stood upright, pounding their fist against their chest.
I rolled my eyes impatiently, feeling a bit annoyed.
I heard everything you said just now.
Who’s short statured…
But fortunately, they recognized me…
…………
When I first entered the city, the streets near the gate were bustling with people. Many nobles who were clearly foreigners could often be seen on the streets.
But now, although the streetlights were still bright, there were no pedestrians. Most of the shops on both sides had closed their doors, and the few houses with lights on were almost all tightly shut.
I rode in the castle city’s exclusive silver unicorn carriage, letting the soldiers take me to the market near Rondor Street, as usual giving him a silver coin. However, this soldier, who appeared only a few years older than me and had been somewhat shy throughout the journey,
“However, he firmly said no.”
“Miss Silviana, you are a great hero. Being able to serve you is my… my honor…”
He spoke haltingly, his eyes flickering as he avoided looking at my face. After he finished speaking, fearing that I would insist, he quickly got into the carriage and left in a hurry.
*She is so cute…*
I watched the direction the carriage went for a while until he was far away. Then, I turned around and walked into the market.
Unlike the quiet area near the city gate, the central part of the capital was still bustling with people. The vendors’ shouts echoed back and forth, colorful lanterns formed a galaxy, pedestrians walked in groups on the streets, and laughter could be heard from time to time. It seemed that the tense atmosphere from a few days ago had really dissipated here.
“Hey, have you seen the news reports these past few days?”
“The news reports… Not yet. Why? Have the resettlement issues been resolved?”
I easily overheard their conversation as I walked through the crowd.
“That’s right, they say things have calmed down since the day before yesterday… It seems like Her Majesty the Queen and the Pope reached an agreement. There’s no shortage of food in the city, and the churches are rebuilding the houses… That’s what I heard. But that’s not what I wanted to talk about…”
“Is it Miss Silviana?”
… Huh?
The focus has shifted to me so quickly…
“Yes, exactly! Miss Silviana! She is truly the angel of the capital… Her hair is as black as pearls, and even her portraits are beautiful… Listen to me, you should really go see her…”
“So young, yet so powerful… She’s still just a girl…”
“I admire her…”
“The point is, she’s very beautiful! Elegant! She is—”
“Hey hey…”
“Look, that girl… Does she have black hair? Am I mistaken…?”
“Really or not…”
“No way…”
“It seems like…”
The idle chatter on the street suddenly stopped, as if someone had clamped their throats. Many people stopped and looked at me with confusion and disbelief.
No way…
My heart raced, and I quickened my pace, lowering my head and weaving through the crowd.
You can’t recognize me… You can’t see me…
I’m just passing by… We don’t have much food at home… I’m very hungry…
“Miss Silviana…”
“Isn’t that her…?”
“Black hair, black eyes, sixteen years old…”
“A bit similar…”
“Are you… Miss Silviana! Is that Miss Silviana?!”
“I’m not! I’m not!”
Seeing more and more people gathering around me, I felt scared and didn’t care about buying anything anymore. I pushed aside a couple blocking my path and ran into a nearby alley, clutching my head.
There were footsteps behind me… Someone actually chased after me!
“Miss Silviana! Please let me see you! I want to express my feelings to you—”
Moon Step!
Woosh—
In an instant, the wind whistled past with countless gasps, and I had already left them far behind.
Run fast…
After dashing into the alley, I didn’t dare to stop. I ran with all my might toward Longdor Street.
Lately, I’ve been staying home a lot, especially after the new news report came out. Besides flying out of the city to practice my new powers, I’ve just been eating and sleeping at home. I never thought that just a few days later, everything would be like this…
What should I do?
Will I never be able to go out normally again…
I haven’t eaten yet…
I rushed forward with my head down, not daring to look at anyone, until I entered Longdor Street and saw the large iron gate of Number 3 mansion. Only then did I feel a little relieved and stopped.
“Huff—”
I took a deep breath.
Thank goodness…
Longdor Street was still as empty as usual. I didn’t need to… wait.
Suddenly, I saw a tall and thin figure standing in front of my house, and my heart jolted.
“Who is it?!”
“It’s me.”
The figure originally leaned against the wall, dressed in a neat white suit. In the dim light, I couldn’t clearly see his face, but I immediately recognized his familiar voice, and my eyes lit up.
“Camembert cheese!”
You came just in time!
