Chapter 35: The Demon’s Retreat, The City Wall’s Fall

Chapter 35: The Demon’s Retreat, The City Wall’s Fall

Inside Mork’s body, just as Airael had suspected, two Morks were duking it out.

One Mork took the form of a Dark Elf, while the other naturally appeared as a Demon.

Even though the Demon looked formidable, it wasn’t really holding its ground, getting pushed back repeatedly by Mork.

Let’s not forget, this was Mork’s body, and he had home court advantage.

Thus, this battle didn’t last long; soon enough, the Demon Mork was vanquished by Mork himself.

“I’ll be back!”

Before getting squashed, the Demon Mork spat out its loser proclamation.

Listening to those words, as the Demon dissipated into a swirl of purple-black light, Mork didn’t feel a wave of victory; instead, his heart weighed heavy.

After all, knowing a powerful entity was eyeing your body, who could feel happy about that?

Mork’s consciousness didn’t linger long in the realm of awareness.

Once the Demon was dealt with, he regained control of his body and came to.

Meanwhile, his demonically altered physique reverted to its original state.

However, he didn’t look too hot right now.

Earlier, to fend off Airael’s attack, he had tapped into a power deep within him that he had long been afraid to unleash.

That power was tricky to handle.

Just like earlier, he almost lost control.

Speaking of which, he owed Airael a thank-you; her words had grounded him during his chaotic state.

Now, following that little “internal scuffle,” he was feeling quite depleted.

“Mork, my lord!”

Seeing Mork revive, the Dark Elves all wore expressions of joy.

Even though the previous iteration of Mork was powerful, it felt alien to them and offered little sense of security.

Upon Mork’s return to form, Airael sighed inwardly.

Then she shook her head, sporting a bitter smile.

Honestly, this was a decent outcome.

Dealing with this Mork was far preferable to facing off against the Demon Mork from moments before.

“Soldiers, prepare for battle!”

As soon as Mork recovered, Arthur gave the orders to the soldiers behind him.

He hadn’t forgotten they were still on a battlefield.

The Dark Elves and Orcs across from them were enemies.

At Arthur’s voice, not only did the Human Soldiers react, but the Dark Elves and Orcs also caught on.

Attention turned to the enemy.

However, an impassable chasm now lay between them, a gaping hole created by Airael’s explosive magic.

Because of its presence, they couldn’t reach each other, and even in vigilance, there was little more they could do but stare blankly.

Of course, this battle wasn’t going to just come to a halt.

Since they couldn’t fight here, they’d just have to take the battle elsewhere.

Looking again at the sizable crater in front of him, Arthur immediately turned to a nearby soldier and said, “Go report to General Komit. Tell him the city wall has fallen, and the army can move in!”

Although there were still Dark Elves and Orcs holding the line on the wall, this massive hole was more than enough for the Human army to pour into the fortress.

After that, the resistance on the wall would be utterly pointless.

Mork, now awake, surveyed the area, clearly aware of the situation.

Consequently, he felt a new determination brewing within him.

Then, using the remains of the shattered walls, he swiftly climbed back up to the city wall.

“Retreat! There’s no need to hold the city wall any longer.”

Truthfully, what he really meant was that there was no need to defend the fortress any longer.

But sharing that thought right now was a no-go.

Especially with Orcs nearby.

Neither the Dark Elves nor the Orcs opposed Mork’s notion of abandoning the wall.

It was evident that holding this ground was no longer necessary.

Before leaving, Mork cast a lingering glance at Airael.

That look was laden with meaning, complex and deep.

Airael noticed this moment.

Yet she couldn’t quite grasp what it really meant.

Unable to figure it out, Airael quickly discarded those thoughts.

Now her mind was set on one simple goal: to follow Arthur and bear their child.

Along the way, if she could lend a hand, she’d do it.

After all, it was only fair compensation for what was to come.

On this matter, Airael was rationally calculating within herself.

Before long, the message Arthur sent reached General Komit.

Hearing the real news from the front, Komit broke into a wide grin.

“Pass the orders down! The wall has been breached by General Axi! All forces, launch a full attack on Malong Fortress immediately!”

With that declaration, he didn’t linger outside for long.

Though he was technically in command and his forces had taken heavy losses in the previous battles, he was determined to pitch in today.

“Your Majesty! The fortress has been breached.”

Not long after Komit received the news, the Beast King, who was fiercely battling on another section of the wall, also caught wind of it.

Upon hearing this, the Beast King momentarily froze mid-fight.

Some Human Soldiers seized the opportunity to charge at the Beast King.

Recognizing the danger, the Beast King quickly reacted, swinging his axe and dispatching the nearby Human Soldier.

Once he’d dealt with the pesky opponent, the Beast King turned to the Orc who had delivered the news and demanded, “What did you just say?”

“Your Majesty, the city wall has fallen!”

“Which wall? It was perfectly fine! Don’t spread false rumors!”

The Beast King glared angrily at the surroundings.

“Your Majesty, not this wall! It’s General Mork’s place! The Humans unleashed a devastating magic and blasted a massive hole in our wall.”

As he spoke, the Orc even gestured with his hands to illustrate the size of the breach.

Upon hearing this, the Beast King furrowed his brow deeply.

He never expected it would be Mork’s side that fell.

And not even due to Mork intentionally letting his guard down.

Could the Orcs really be finished here?

If Malong Fortress fell, the Human army would steamroll right into the Orc territory.

In such a case, their homeland would be lost.

No way! Even if the wall crumbled, the Fortress couldn’t be allowed to fall to the Humans.

Malong Fortress had to be defended!

With this resolute thought, the Beast King cast a glance at the nearby Human Soldiers and bellowed, “Orc warriors, wipe out these feeble Humans! They’re not worthy of being our property!”
