Chapter 34: Scandal Against Ivyst
“If those guys decide to get violent later, we’ll all step up together. There are too many of us; they’ll only end up worse for it.”
A balding man at the front whispered to the crowd.
People around him instantly cast approving glances his way.
Upon seeing this, although the bald man wore a serious expression, he was already sneering internally.
These foolish commoners really are easy to manipulate.
Just a little brainwashing, and they’ve become the most fanatical followers of the Creation Goddess, ready to be treated like dogs.
He felt no pity for these stupid folks.
The vast majority of them had been captured by the Creation sect, and besides being the discarded scraps of society, they had no extra value.
The man was named Mark, the leader of this bunch.
Of course, he had another identity: a former member of the Creation sect hidden among the crowd.
With the organization destroyed, as the last surviving member, Mark’s options were limited.
But as long as he could use these foolish people as bargaining chips to trouble that demonic woman, it would all be worth it.
Thinking back to that night, when the masked man claiming to be a high-ranking official of the Saint Roland Empire gave him his order, Mark’s expression darkened.
He was instructed to detonate this big bomb at the right moment and splash dirty water on Ivyst.
In simple terms, the more than three hundred people were destined to be sacrificial victims.
Their only value was to create an unprecedented scandal for the Empire’s third princess.
Mark knew very well that not everyone among those three hundred had been brainwashed.
In fact, a considerable number of fools believed they were clever enough to think that the nobles wouldn’t just carelessly dispose of three hundred lives, preparing to sell themselves for a price.
But if they truly thought that way, it would be a dead end.
Mark silently mused.
Just then, he suddenly spotted a handsome young man with black hair and blue eyes striding towards them.
As he walked, he called out, “Everyone, look at me!”
His voice was loud, instantly capturing the attention of everyone present, their expressions shifting to wary curiosity.
Surprisingly, he didn’t slow down; instead, he quickened his pace.
For some reason, Mark sensed a hint of that same fervent devotion in this young man’s eyes as he saw in the surrounding numb masses.
The next second, he heard the boy speak again: “I used to be like you! I found living in this world painful, completely losing faith and hope in life.”
“During that time, I was very depressed, even wanting to die. Each day I woke up feeling only numbness and despair, flooded with overwhelming emptiness.”
“I was even looked down upon by those around me, called a disgrace, as if they wanted me to disappear from the world.”
“And I deserved that, honestly.”
“But perhaps by fate, in endless darkness, there was a light to illuminate my way.”
“I want to say, I was once like you, and right now, we are no different.”
“As fellow followers of the Creation sect, let us praise our Goddess!”
What the hell, praise the Goddess! Watching Lynn’s antics, Greya was dumbfounded.
He stared blankly at the incredibly devout Lynn, feeling an urge to believe for a moment.
But knowing this guy, it was probably just a prelude to some strange trick.
He turned his head and saw that the two constables had somehow positioned their hands on their holstered guns.
Hey, hey, you guys actually believe him?
Greya couldn’t help but roll his eyes.
But just then, a commotion erupted from the crowd in the distance.
“Praise the Goddess!”
A chorus of excited voices echoed among the crowd.
Oh, so you all believe now? Greya’s mouth twitched.
Meanwhile, looking at the dense crowd before him, Lynn unleashed the full power of the Liars’ Devourer. Although it was a bit demanding for his current abilities to influence so many people at once, it was far from impossible.
Clearly, Lynn used his lying ability to make these three hundred twelve civilians believe in his faith.
Yet Lynn wasn’t primarily doing this to fulfill Ivyst’s task.
As soon as he got off the carriage, he had casually opened the system and took a glance.
Unexpectedly, he stumbled upon a pleasant surprise.
In simple terms, all those three hundred people in front of him were E-rank plot characters, and there was even one C-rank hidden among them!
This sudden delight made Lynn’s eyes shine.
If he could fully leverage the narrative deviation here, it would score him over thirty system points.
What could be better than that?
Feeling a couple hundred stares boring into him, Lynn stood his ground.
In his eyes, these folks had clearly turned into juicy lambs ready for slaughter.
Therefore, Lynn went back to the carriage and pulled out a chair.
Then he audaciously sat down right in front of the more than three hundred people.
“As you can see, I am a person of status and dignity.” He said calmly, “I’m here today representing the great Princess Ivyst’s hopes for you, to solve your troubles.”
“Regardless, I will guarantee you a satisfactory outcome.”
With the influence of the Liars’ Devourer, Lynn’s every word felt like a warm breeze, easily garnering the favor of most people present.
Suddenly, someone in the crowd spoke up: “What do you have to say about those noble officials forcing us to change our beliefs?!”
“Friend, I am a follower of the Creation sect myself.” Lynn shook his head, “In reality, you should know that Orlen City advocates for freedom of belief; otherwise, there wouldn’t be beliefs outside of the Three Major Churches. So this claim is nonsense, I assure you.”
Upon hearing this, people exchanged glances for a moment before bursting into cheers.
Lynn glanced at these ignorant and naive commoners, his expression devoid of emotion.
Should he pity them? But in a world that devours people, pity and sympathy were the most useless emotions.
Once the crowd finally quieted down, Lynn spoke again: “Of course, my above promise has a significant prerequisite.”
“That is, your faith must be truly sincere.”
“Our faith is absolutely sincere!”
A large, bearded man near the front shouted boldly.
“Oh?” Lynn suddenly became interested, “Come over here; I have some questions for you.”
Feeling the urging gazes around him, the bearded man gulped but still walked over.
“Sir, go ahead and ask.”
He appeared somewhat nervous.
“Relax, I’m not going to eat you.” Lynn smiled at him, “My question is, why do you believe in the Creation Goddess?”
The bearded man hesitated for a few seconds before stumbling through his reply: “At first, I was captured, but then I gradually realized my Lord’s mercy, thus bathing in His glory.”
“Before being captured, did you have a smooth life?”
This question seemed to poke at the man’s pain.
He flashed a moment of struggle, tormented for quite a while, then shook his head: “My wife was unfaithful to me, and even the child in her womb wasn’t mine; I wanted her to abort, but she threatened to die instead.”
“During that time, I drank heavily every day, living a complete mess. If the Goddess hadn’t pointed the way for me, I probably wouldn’t have survived then.”
The bearded man—or should we say, the “cuckold”—revealed his tragic past for the first time in front of so many.
Expecting this to earn him Lynn’s sympathy and allow him entry into the city.
Yet unexpectedly, the young man on the chair let out a mocking laugh.
“You don’t qualify!”
