Chapter 104 Light and Darkness Part One
Whoosh whoosh whoosh—
The fierce wind howled by my ears, my raven-black hair wildly dancing behind me, the loose nun’s habit flapping violently. My large black wings spread wide, embracing her soft body tightly in my arms.
It was somewhat awkward.
Trying to fly in this posture for the first time, I felt very uncomfortable. Previously, the black flames would envelop my entire body, protecting me from the wind resistance, making me unaware of the left and right swaying with the airflow, and even making me feel like I wasn’t actually “suspended.”
That kind of flight was comfortable, without the sudden ups and downs and the instability that made it feel like riding a roller coaster.
But now it had changed.
The dual physical and mental stimulation made my chest throb violently, and the wind hitting my face stung painfully.
The wings formed by the black flames felt a bit awkward at first when flapping, but soon became more natural. They were like an extension of my back, each flap creating a sonic boom, pushing me forward at high speed.
After a few flaps, I had to tuck the wings close to my sides, relying on the remaining momentum to glide, trying to keep my body steady to avoid causing further harm to the already weakened Victoria.
This was not an easy task.
Holding her like this was also awkward.
Although Victoria was very light, she was tall. A standard princess carry involves one arm under the legs and the other supporting the back, but I couldn’t do that. It had nothing to do with the length of my arms. Victoria was unconscious, not using any force, so I had to hold her head with one hand, otherwise, her head would droop—this meant my other arm couldn’t reach her legs, forcing me to hold her buttocks instead, pressing her against my chest as I held her awkwardly.
This posture was far from graceful or romantic, and even her hair would hit my face, blocking my view.
I lowered my head, pushing away the strand of hair that was stuck to my nose. Focusing again, I noticed we had flown a bit too far.
What incredible speed…
The palace gates were long behind us, and below us were the intersecting streets and alleys. Armored soldiers clad in silver armor rushed through the streets, some drawing their swords and charging forward, while many more headed towards the palace—soon, however, many stopped in their tracks.
From above, the dense clusters of silver armor below suddenly halted. The deafening shouts seemed to be choked by an invisible hand, ceasing in just seconds. The brutal street fighting momentarily paused as the soldiers looked up in unison.
In the next moment, the wings spread once again from my back.
Whoosh—
My body jerked, and the gliding speed rapidly decreased.
Focus…
In the next instant, the wings beat the air forcefully, and I carried Victoria upward, soaring dozens of meters higher.
Focus…
The wings fluttered slightly, then spread flat. The white-tinged black flames, with their overwhelming might, spread out like the breath of an apocalyptic dragon from both sides of my body, tongues of fire spurting and flowing.
I slightly bent my body, my legs curling, and in one second, the upward momentum abruptly stopped. I turned around, facing the palace, slowly straightening my legs, relaxing.
Then, I straightened my spine, hovering in the air hundreds of meters above.
The soldiers below shouted and called out. But the wind was strong, and we were quite far away, so I couldn’t make out what they were saying.
Yet, I could sense their panic.
The atmosphere of fear spread quickly among the crowd like a virus, fear rapidly taking root in everyone’s hearts. Countless souls trembled and shook beneath.
The blonde woman slept soundly in my arms.
The intense black flames on my back supported my body, allowing me to hang suspended in the air as if standing.
I gently took a breath, then slightly turned my body and leaned back, allowing Victoria to rest her upper body on my right shoulder, her head resting against my neck, her face touching mine.
My left hand, which had been supporting the back of her head, slowly released its hold, while my right arm, which was around her buttocks, tightened slightly.
Good…
Then I raised my left hand, holding it high above my head.
In the next moment, dazzling blue light burst forth from the palm of my hand.
Crack…
Her hair fluttered.
Tiny ice crystals began to float in the air, shimmering with a faint icy blue color, drifting about in the line of sight.
Crack, crack, crack…
Frosty white mist flowed rapidly above, then converged and condensed into countless fragments of ice. The fragments of ice quickly squeezed and expanded, gathering together. Soon after, a huge block of ice formed above our heads.
I closed my fingers.
Whoosh—
The ice block instantly shot up higher into the sky and exploded with a loud bang several meters away.
Boom!
A muffled sound.
I looked up, watching as frosty mist scattered in all directions, large and small fragments falling down with a rustling sound. Immediately, I flapped my single flame wing, using the black fog to cover my head like an umbrella, blocking all the cold air and hailstones.
The cries of the soldiers below grew louder.
I lowered my head, my gaze quickly scanning through the city buildings.
Margaret…
This is my signal. Can you see me?
Respond if you can see me…
Let me know where you are…
The temperature of the air dropped slightly, and I felt Victoria shiver a little.
“Are you cold?”
“Is it uncomfortable?”
Of course, she wouldn’t answer.
I held her tighter in my embrace, gently rubbing my cheek against hers to comfort her.
“It’s okay.”
“It will be over soon… just bear with it for a little longer…”
There was no response from Margaret yet.
The soldiers and cavalry farther from the palace, because of my appearance, mostly looked up, significantly slowing down their offensive rhythm. However, the battle at the palace remained fierce, with soldiers falling every moment, blood splattering, and flames burning.
The enemy’s assault was fierce, wave after wave of charges, and the defenders on the square were gradually losing ground.
But those were the people supporting Victoria.
Let me help…
Thinking this, the blue light in my raised left hand faded.
In the next moment, black flames enveloped the entire palm.
Whoosh—
伴随着火焰燃烧的气息,无数黑色的火球自我周身凝聚,绽放出炽烈的白光,盖过天际撒来的曦芒,将小半个天空映出惨白的颜色。
Below seemed to be someone shielding their eyes with their hands. They were crying out in shock, the riders on horned horses shouting loudly at the soldiers, some starting to flee in the opposite direction of the palace.
One, two, three…
In a short time, I identified the densest streets below, finding what appeared to be leaders, confirming they were originally planning to charge toward the palace.
Then I hesitated for a moment.
It was less than half a second. Taking a deep breath, I waved my hand downward.
Death-bringing fireballs, like a meteor shower, whistled through the air, streaking toward the city, arriving at the ground in an instant, heading straight for the soldiers attacking the palace.
No one had a chance to escape.
Boom, boom, boom, boom, boom—
Violent explosions erupted, rampant black flames engulfing the crowd, countless heart-wrenching screams suddenly ringing out, only to stop abruptly the next second. In my line of sight, limbs were thrown up from the explosions, turning to ashes, countless wisps of white smoke rising from the streets, drifting toward the palace in the sky.
Like a flood, it surged into my chest.
“Ahh…”
A sticky moan escaped my mouth, my body trembling uncontrollably.
Haha…
That’s the feeling…
So pleasant!
My vision gradually became blurry.
Immediately afterward, in the distance to the left, a golden light rose from somewhere in the city, slowly flying toward the sky.
