Chapter 314: New Formula Potions

While everyone was quickly adapting to their new lives and environment, the new semester had quietly passed over a month. With the warming climate and the arrival of spring, many of the trees within Emanas began to sprout new buds and branches.

In the central school building, at the Red Shell Hall, the finals of the Rainbow Neck Bottle Competition were taking place.

After the preliminary rounds, some students with outstanding abilities emerged, and the 19 participants who entered the finals were all geniuses in alchemy and potion-making that would be sought after outside.

Compared to the previous clamor, the scene of this final competition was much quieter. This was not because fewer people were watching, but due to several renowned masters of alchemy and potion-making present. Their names could even be found in textbooks, so everyone was more restrained.

Inside the quiet hall, after the host announced the rules, the competition officially began.

This time, the school did not provide materials; instead, the students brought their own. Since they were showcasing newly developed potions, the finals were more about display and practice, and the battle had already started long before.

The students sat quietly on the tiered seats, watching the various contestants use unique methods to process different materials and create unheard-of potions with exquisite techniques. They watched with great anticipation, which was the most captivating part of the ‘Rainbow Neck Bottle’ competition.

”Is that Senior Lamb? I almost didn’t recognize him after a year.” Some students couldn’t help whispering to each other.

”Yes, ever since he got hair, he changes his hairstyle every week as if possessed.”

”This explosive hairstyle is really unique.”

A group of people watched Senior Lamb continuously heating and stirring a thick black liquid, emitting an unpleasant burnt smell. Other contestants nearby frowned, wanting to complain about the strange odor, but thinking of the day’s competition, they held back.

Lolan Hill’s workbench was located at the front of the venue, close to the main stage, with Gene Nerland from the Tower Academy on her left and Osuna on her right.

To be honest, she was a bit uncomfortable with today’s position; it was too conspicuous.

Since it was indoors, Lolan Hill couldn’t wear a hood and just wore a simple black coat. Her smooth long black hair was tied up behind her, and a light red hairband tied a butterfly knot at the back of her head. As she turned her back to the audience and prepared her potion step by step, many were drawn to her beautiful silhouette.

Many originally came to see the witch freshman compete, but gradually, their gazes shifted from Osuna to Lolan Hill.

Without comparison, there would be no hurt. When the two stood together, the difference became apparent, and whispers and discussions began below.

  ”Who is she?”

”She is truly beautiful, charming, and lovely.”

Some boys felt they were poisoned by love. Many started inquiring about Lolan Hill’s background.

”Who is that girl? In five minutes, I want to know everything about her.” A well-dressed noble youth said to his subordinate.

”Don’t bother asking, sir,” the subordinate replied hesitantly.

”Why?” The noble youth was surprised, as his loyal subordinate dared to contradict him today.

”She is…” the subordinate whispered, and after hearing this, the noble sighed and fell silent.

Explosions, boiling, and condensation sounds echoed through the competition venue, and occasionally smoke rose, causing students in the front row to cough and sneeze.

Rock sat in the back, observing the scene. Someone sawed wood, someone pushed a millstone, someone fed insects with strange things, someone played with fire, and someone used centrifugal force with water. For the first time, he felt that these historical alchemists must have been quite challenged to find so many unique methods.

After half a day of marveling and enduring, the contestants’ potions were finally completed, and the next step was to explain them on stage and let the masters evaluate.

The first contestant to take the stage was a young man in a deep red uniform. His cheekbones were high, and he was tall and thin.

”Good noon, wise ones and masters. I am a student from the Fortress Academy, and today I will demonstrate my invention, the ‘Unconscious Blood Loss Potion.'”

After showing the pale yellow reagent in his hand, he explained,

”When applied to weapons, this potion prevents wounds from healing, causing continuous blood loss until death.”

”Of course, this alone isn’t enough. It also has a paralyzing effect, making the enemy unaware of pain, thus not noticing the blood loss until they feel dizzy.”

He then handed the potion to a staff member, and a primordial Sequence 3, the Savage Bull, was brought out to test it.

A swordsman applied the potion to his sword and lightly cut the bull’s hind leg. Not feeling much pain, the bull began jumping around but continued grazing, unaware that its rear was soaked in blood.

  ”It looks good.”

  ”It’s perfect for ambushes.”

”It’s indeed the style of the Demon Sequence, known for its poisons.”

Two Sequence 8 sages and three alchemy masters sitting on stage began scoring the student.

”Overall score, creativity 71, effectiveness 60.”

Soon, a staff member announced the judges’ scores, and one master began sharing his evaluation.

”The idea is good, but it may not be practical in real life.”

”Wise beings are not easily deceived, especially those with higher Sequence levels. They can sense blood loss and detect hidden dangers. If the effect is lost, it won’t be effective.”

”In addition, dealing with large demonic beasts, the wound can’t be too small. Too small, and the beast heals quickly. If the wound is large, the amount of potion on the weapon won’t suffice. It would require a bucket. But if you need a bucket, wouldn’t it be easier to kill the enemy with another method?”

Afterward, the student thanked the judges and stepped down, allowing the next contestant to take the stage.

”Hello, I am Lamb. Today, I will present the ‘Anti-Freeze and Fireproof Hair Potion.'” After saying this, he couldn’t help but laugh, and the audience burst into laughter.

”This Senior Lamb is truly amusing.”

”Does he have a grudge against his hair?”

He continued, “As we all know, hair can be cut, blood can flow, but hairstyles cannot be messed up. However, in combat, extreme moments like intense heat and freezing are common, often leaving fighters unscathed but with ruined hairstyles, especially for beautiful ladies. Imagine becoming bald—it’s heartbreaking.”

”That’s why I invented this potion.”

He poured the potion directly onto his head, rubbed it evenly, and a new hairstyle was born.

Then, someone used a freezing skill to blast his sharp, black hair, producing only a little white vapor, with the hairstyle remaining intact. Finally, he set fire to his hair, with purple-red flames blowing on the tips, yet the hair remained unburned. It seemed the potion carried away the heat.

”Overall score, creativity 65, effectiveness 78.”

One master commented, “Though it’s not anything special, I think your potion has potential and could be profitable.”

”Thank you.” Lamb walked off the stage, somewhat excited and satisfied. Although he was unlikely to win the championship this year, his goal had been achieved, and he expected more sponsorship afterward.

Subsequent contestants showcased their creations: a breathing-stopping potion (Bronze level), a metal-strengthening potion (Silver level), a nightmare-inducing potion (Silver level), and a light-bending coating potion (Bronze level).

Finally, the competition neared its end, and the contestants scheduled for the last speeches took the stage.

”Please welcome the second-year student from the Fortress Academy, Miss Osuna.”
