Chapter Ninety-Four Night Battle
The knights were shouting, and the ceratotherium behind them let out long, shrill neighs.
In front of me, specks of golden light scattered, mingling with the fragments of the shattered light shield. Black flames, accompanied by thick smoke, merged into the night, turning everything within sight into an area where no one could approach, a death zone.
The white light smoke, transformed from the lives of two bishops, now circulated within my body as energy, being absorbed by the greedy forces of chaos. My emotions were uncontrollable, my body shaking violently, and I couldn’t help but smile at the corners of my mouth.
“Hah…”
The plump figure of Bishop Nero was thrown away from my line of sight, spinning in a circle before flying forward. Immediately after, my body landed, my feet stomping heavily on the ground.
The ambush succeeded…
For a moment, this thought flashed through my mind. I recalled the feeling of that strike; I should have fractured his cheekbone…
But that wasn’t enough.
I said I would devour him.
“There’s only you left!”
With just this last person, I would devour him…
Before Nero had even landed, I quickly swung my left arm. The dead smoke around me gathered again in front of me, transforming back into a giant python that carried a scent of death, lunging towards Bishop Nero who was floating in mid-air.
In the next moment, golden light flashed across his body.
Bishop Nero’s body, still suspended in the air, vanished abruptly from my sight before being enveloped by black smoke.
!
Teleportation…
Disgusting divine sign…
I began to look around, my gaze sweeping rapidly over the darkness outside the dead smoke, but I didn’t see Nero’s chubby figure.
Where did he go?
Suddenly, I felt a warning.
Bang—
A burst of sound broke through the air above me. I immediately pushed off the ground with all my strength, using the Moon Step to retreat backwards more than ten meters.
Boom!
Dust exploded in front of me.
A holy spear shot out from the darkness, piercing deep into the ground where I had been standing, causing cracks to spread near my feet. Following that, the attacker seemed unwilling to give me any respite, and a second wind whistled down from above.
He’s up there!
I used the Moon Step to retreat again, dodging the holy spear coming from above. Just as I steadied my footing to charge forward, I suddenly made eye contact with a knight beside me.
“…”
“…”
I was stunned for a moment.
This knight appeared to have just stood up after being knocked off his beast by the golden bell, his young face still dazed, while several other knights nearby were also stunned.
The situation had changed in an instant, and they clearly hadn’t understood what was happening or prepared for battle. They hadn’t even organized their formation when I suddenly closed in to avoid the holy spear… Should I let him go?
In the next moment, the knight reacted.
His eyes wide with terror, he let out a hoarse roar, his originally clear face suddenly becoming distorted and ugly.
“Aaah—”
The knight drew his sword from his waist and slashed fiercely at me.
I raised my left hand.
Clang—
The sword, flashing with cold light, was firmly grabbed in my hand.
The armor formed by the mud wrapped around each of my fingers, preventing the blade from injuring me in the slightest; I didn’t even feel the impact.
Trying to die…
Thinking this, I suddenly heard a third sound of breaking air.
Damn…
The attack of the holy spear was too fierce. I didn’t dare to meet it head-on and released the sword in my hand, instantly retreating with the Moon Step.
Boom—
Furious gun strikes whistled down from the sky. The young knight’s face, filled with ferocity and tension, froze in that moment, then his head was swept by the butt of the spear, exploding like a watermelon along with his helmet.
Golden light bloomed.
Dust flew everywhere, quickly obscuring the surrounding knights, hiding their shocked and incredulous faces illuminated by the golden light.
“Borri—”
From the darkness, someone shouted in grief and anger.
I looked up and saw the figure falling from mid-air, still faintly glowing.
This is truly…
Absolutely terrible.
In the next moment, black flames rose again from beneath my feet.
Whoosh—
A petite figure leapt upward, carrying a tongue of dark fire. The fire emitted a pale glow, like a dazzling comet streaking through the night, cutting through the swirling dust, landing beside several knights. She swiftly dodged them, picked up Captain Gray, and then, in the knights’ terrified… yet lost combat will, slightly bewildered gazes, she took to the air once more.
Rushing towards the falling Bishop Nero.
Come on…
In the darkness, Bishop Nero, not far away, slowly descended like a feather. Seeing me rushing over, he hurriedly crossed his hands in front of his chest, emitting dazzling golden light once again.
A light barrier condensed and gathered around the space around him, forming a semi-transparent spherical shield. In the next moment, I swung Captain Gray with all my might, striking the shield.
Crack!
A crisp, loud sound.
The hastily formed shield shattered like broken glass under my strike, but my forward momentum did not diminish at all. Stretching out my left hand wrapped in dark mist, I reached for Bishop Nero inside the shield, but he dodged again, his bulky figure disappearing from my sight once more with the golden light.
Damn it…
He doesn’t even need to cool down after teleporting!
“White Night…”
With a gritted-teeth growl, the shrill sound of air gathering came from behind me.
Behind me!
Without time to turn back, Dead Smoke erupted from my body, spreading outward like an explosion into the surrounding darkness. At the same time, I tried to dodge the unknown attack with Black Flame. Suddenly, a massive force struck my back.
Clang—
At this moment, I felt as if I had been kicked by a giant dragon from behind, my body flying out like a cannonball.
Damn it…
Even with the protection of the armor, this hit was quite unbearable. My back ached intensely, my head felt dizzy, and breathing was difficult. I didn’t know what had hit me, only feeling the world spinning and my body flipping uncontrollably in the air.
Headache…
I struggled to control the Black Flame, trying to steady my constantly spinning body.
I’m going to throw up…
Dead Smoke didn’t seem to have eaten him.
It’s okay… Don’t rush…
Bishop Nero’s several hasty miracles, whether it was the Holy Lance or the shield, or the Golden Bell… although they weren’t weak, as long as I didn’t get distracted, I could completely deal with them… With the protection of the armor, even if I got hit, it wouldn’t be too bad, just a bit painful… Unlike the Feather Miracle before, or that devastating scene I saw just before coming here.
That kind of awe-inspiring power seemed to require preparation time… He couldn’t instantly cast them; otherwise, he would have done so already.
I can’t let him have time to cast…
Realizing this, I finally stabilized myself, hanging upside down in the night sky, quickly scanning the surroundings. A second later, I saw a beam of light shining on the ground not far away, with Bishop Nero’s silhouette vaguely visible within the light.
He’s there!
He’s casting a miracle…
“Forget it!”
Flames erupted beneath my feet, illuminating the area within dozens of meters with white light.
I was anxious, rushing toward Bishop Nero while biting my teeth, swinging my left hand. A black smoke snake sped through the night sky, roaring towards the direction of the glowing light.
Click click click—
Holding the end of Captain Gray tightly, my right hand pulled the trigger. With the sound of gears turning, the scythe’s handle cracked open, transforming into a four-meter-long chain-sickle, with wisps of black mist and frost-white ice crystals entwined around it.
The smoke snake touched the light first, just as before, being blocked and unable to advance.
Then let me make you unable to see me!
I controlled the Dead Smoke to explode in all directions, forming a sea of black clouds, enveloping Bishop Nero and the golden light. Holding the chain-sickle with both hands, I swung it around, accelerating my dive.
Whoosh whoosh whoosh—
Suddenly, several beams of white light broke through the Dead Smoke.
!
Despite being prepared, those nearly light-speed white beams still nearly hit me. Such terrifying miracles could only be predicted in advance; they were impossible to avoid. Fortunately, Bishop Nero’s vision was obscured by the black mist, unable to accurately judge my position, causing the attack to miss.
I immediately began to move in a serpentine pattern, narrowly avoiding several consecutive white beams, and the golden light under the black mist was now within reach.
“Ah!”
I raised the blade high, swinging it down.
Smashing into the black mist.
Boom—
Dead Smoke mixed with countless fragments of ice crystals exploded together with the golden light in my sight. The shockwave spread from below, instantly engulfing everything with smoke. After the light broke through, Bishop Nero’s swollen half-face appeared once again in front of me.
“White Night—”
He roared angrily at me.
Immediately after, my falling body directly collided with Bishop Nero’s halo-covered body.
