Chapter 304

“Do you really like rabbits that much, Hana?”

Maru was staring at me from behind as I gazed at the rabbits.

“Yeah!”

I liked rabbits so much that I wanted to raise one if I had the chance. Of course, rabbits aren’t litter-trained, so keeping one at home might be a bit of a problem. Even if I brought one home because I liked it, the employees would be the ones dealing with the aftermath and all the chores. It didn’t feel right to make the employees work just for my fleeting happiness.

“If Hana likes them, why not raise one?”

“No, it’s okay, Maru.”

Adopting a pet requires a huge commitment. Many people adopt pets just because they’re cute at first glance, only to end up in trouble later. That’s why there are so many abandoned dogs and cats, right? People often bring them home just because they look adorable.

But soon, they realize that raising a pet requires a tremendous sense of responsibility. You have to train them from A to Z, and before long, the hassle of raising them outweighs their cuteness.

Then, naturally, people abandon them. Pets aren’t like children—abandoning them doesn’t result in legal punishment. That’s probably why the number of abandoned dogs and cats in South Korea is so high. I didn’t want to become one of those irresponsible people.

So, I decided to just enjoy watching the rabbits here. I planned to satisfy my pet cravings by either visiting places like this or watching videos on YouTube. I thought I’d adopt a pet and raise it only after I became independent later in life.

At least I wasn’t from a family that struggled to afford pet food or vet bills. Right now, I’m living with employees, so I don’t feel lonely, but I think I’ll feel the solitude once I move out and live alone. By then, I’d like to adopt a cat. Cats are just so cute.

“Ah!”

I got so absorbed in the rabbits that I made Maru stand there for too long. She was watching me with a warm smile. I wondered if she was actually annoyed but hiding it. I took Maru’s hand and headed toward our original destination. I’m not a child, so I planned to walk straight to our goal without getting distracted.

“Uh…”

I stood there, spellbound. On the display TV, a video of the Little Magician Lumi was playing. My steps, which were supposed to lead me to buy LEGO, came to a halt. There were toys of the mascots that the Little Magician Lumi had used. With trembling hands, I fiddled with the toys. The texture was amazing.

“Wow…”

I couldn’t help but marvel. The quality of toys these days is no joke. They’re so intricate and sturdy compared to the 90s. No wonder toy prices are through the roof.

There’s this famous children’s animation, Chooping, with over a hundred characters, and some kids collect them all. The prices are insane too. I can’t tell if they make the animation to sell the characters or make the characters because of the animation, but either way, the marketing tactics are getting more and more ruthless.

Even I went through a lot of trouble to collect the Little Magician Lumi’s collection. It was an incredibly tough journey. As I stared at the toys, Maru came over and said,

“Hana, should I buy this for you?”

“Ah… no!”

I came here today to buy LEGO, not other toys. Big supermarkets are truly evil places. I came to buy just one LEGO set, but they’ve set up toy traps everywhere. I couldn’t take it anymore.

I immediately ran to where the LEGO was. Maru followed close behind.

James and Layla visited the farm run by Starlight Foods before signing the contract. It was important to check how the animals were being raised. In this day and age, with animal rights groups being so active, keeping animals in confined spaces could easily lead to complaints.

And yet, behind the scenes, they might still end up eating meat…

Anyway, while I was daydreaming about useless stuff, the car arrived in Gangwon-do.

“Is this Starlight Farm?”

“Yes. The cows raised here will be supplied to the U.S.”

Kim Sehee kindly guided James and Layla around, explaining things. The freely grazing cows didn’t even flinch when people approached. Normally, cows would run away when humans came near, but Korean cows seemed oddly obedient.

I heard that cows raised in Australia graze on an area as big as South Korea. If those cows just ran around freely, they could probably live long, happy lives. It made sense that cows living in such vast lands would naturally avoid cowboys.

Starlight Food Farm wasn’t as big as Australian farms, but it was still quite large. At this scale, they could raise up to 50,000 to 100,000 cows, as Kim Sehee mentioned. Though they’d need to build more farms.

“Is this a cow? Wow, it’s so big I thought it was a bull.”

James couldn’t help but marvel at the cows. They were so well-fed and majestic. Even the female cows were as big as bulls, a sight you wouldn’t see at other farms. Then, James witnessed something astonishing—the cows started getting up and gathering somewhere.

The cows, as if hypnotized, began approaching people holding rice straw. Come to think of it, I heard these cows hardly eat grass from the fields. How tasty must rice straw be for them to ignore everything else?

“Heave-ho!”

Employees came out and started distributing rice straw to the cows. The cows ate the straw in an eerily orderly manner, surprising everyone. After eating their fill, they returned to their spots to chew cud. James couldn’t believe his eyes and couldn’t help but applaud.

“Incredible!”

If we uploaded a video of these cows to YouTube, it would get insane views. The title could be “Hypnotized Cows.” Seeing cows, who don’t even understand language, eat so orderly was a sight you couldn’t even pay to see. James and Layla got to witness the wonders of Starlight Farm.

The U.S. beef sales were sailing smoothly like a ship with favorable winds. Thanks to the Bald Man, who had been blessed by Starlight Food, the employees had become prosperous. With their help, Starlight Food was able to distribute beef to Walmart without a hitch.

Most buyers of Starlight Food beef at Walmart were bald. These bald individuals, transformed into prosperous beings by Starlight Food, repaid the favor by purchasing products from the company.

And it was cheaper than other premium beef. Walmart was holding various discount events to celebrate the first sale. Since the taste of Starlight Food beef was already proven, the priority was to let consumers try it at an affordable price. James emphasized this point.

Once people tasted Starlight Food beef, they wouldn’t look for other beef. Of course, those without money would still go for regular beef, but Americans with some disposable income would become loyal customers. James was confident about that.

James visited a Walmart store in San Francisco to check things out. Thanks to various ads and discounts, there was a line of people waiting to buy beef. At this rate, Walmart’s beef would soon become the most popular in the U.S. James couldn’t help but smile as he touched his lush hair.
