Post-Operative Care
When and how Sister Lingqing disappeared and returned was unknown.
“I had the back kitchen prepare a simple meal. If you don’t mind, please join me.”
It turned out she had gone to arrange dinner, which was indeed part of her duties as a personal secretary.
It was almost 8:30 PM. The hunger that had been neglected during the tense surgery came rushing back. This body with its H-cup size also felt extremely hungry.
— “Hmm? Is it necessary to emphasize the cup size?” —
“Thank you for your trouble.”
Aunt Zhen thanked Sister Lingqing, and I added, “Actually, there’s no need to go through so much trouble. Just some boxed meals would be fine.”
“It’s just a simple meal. The back kitchen can only prepare so much, it’s not a grand feast. If you’re too eager, I might get worried… Boss, aren’t you going to eat?”
Senior Sister stood still, shaking her head at Sister Lingqing’s question.
“You all go out first. I want to take this chance to have a good chat with Yuehua.”
Grandmother showed no intention of going out to eat. She was currently a clone, eating was just a formality, and once the anesthetic effect wore off, she would still need to eat her bland hospital food.
“Planning to catch up? I understand.”
Sister Lingqing nodded slightly, understanding, while Old Lady blinked, seemingly realizing something, and flipped herself up from the bed.
“Hehe, then I won’t be a third wheel anymore~ Xiao Wei~ let’s go eat together!”
She playfully wrapped her arm around Mom’s shoulder and led the way out of the ward. Aunt Zhen glanced at Grandmother and Senior Sister before following them out.
Back at the Cave Plaza, Professor Shi, who had returned safely, placed a stone table near the water pool, where he arranged some common but still delicious drinks and dishes.
“Oh wow! That looks quite plentiful!”
Ba He妹 rubbed her hands, wanting to sit down, but was dragged away by Professor Shi.
“Why are you, an outsider, trying to butt in when family members are eating?”
“Eh—but I’m hungry too!”
Ba He妹 stretched out her complaint, but Professor Shi said, “If you’re hungry, come up with me and eat some boxed meals. Once we’re done, I’ll personally see you off.”
Although knowing what Professor Shi meant, his words sounded like being sent to execution.
The “condemned prisoner” asked, “Where are we going?”
Professor Shi jumped up, tapped Ba He妹 on the back of her head, and smiled, squinting his eyes, “Where else? Go back and see your parents!”
“Going at this hour?”
“It’s only eight o’clock. There’s still time. After you settle your business, I can get back to my research.”
“Turns out Professor is doing this for himself.”
Despite Ba He妹’s complaints, she was still taken away by the short professor. Neither Sister Lingqing nor Miss Ke Man sat down, guiding us to our seats before leaving, taking the bewildered cat girl Xiao Xue with them… As Professor Shi said, this table was for Grandmother’s family.
However, there were three exceptions: Little Qing Lan, Sister Zi, and Xiao Lei.
— “Isn’t Sister Zi and Sister Lei also family eventually?” —
… At least not now.
Xiao Lei practically lunged into her seat, already grabbing chopsticks.
“I’m starving, so I’ll start eating, okay?”
Without waiting for everyone to sit down, this non-picky fool started picking up food. Though impolite, it could be understood, since I was equally hungry. Still, Lin Hua advised, “Xiao Lei, eat slowly. These几位 are all older than Xiao Kai, and we wouldn’t want to leave a bad impression.”
This advice worked. The fool blushed and put down her chopsticks, shrinking beside me with a bashful smile, like a modest young lady.
Muttering, “We can’t give future Aunt a bad impression!”
Fie Jie and Xiao Jing sat on both sides of Aunt Huayíng, while Lin Hua and Aunt Zhen sat together, leaving the seat next to me for Sister Zi. Mom’s side had Old Lady and Little Qing Lan, while Yuzu rested on my leg, the little one straightening herself to reach the table edge.
Big Brother Zhu was quite pitiful.
He had no one to sit next to him, and the small stone round table left two empty spots, making the atmosphere awkward. He sat down and said, “Mom’s surgery was successful, but we must be careful until the rejection period ends.”
He thought he should say something as Senior Sister’s husband and the eldest son of the Huangfu family.
“Save it. Even Jing’er understands these things, so there’s no need for you to explain.”
But Aunt Zhen didn’t agree and interrupted him, “Instead, what are you planning to do next? Regardless of whether Mom recovers, the heavy burden of the Huangfu family isn’t suitable for her to bear any longer.”
Since there were no outsiders present, Aunt Zhen decided to use this opportunity to talk to Big Brother Zhu about family matters.
Big Brother Zhu, after being choked by Aunt Zhen, said gloomily, “I will follow Mom’s wishes. If she wants me to return and help, I definitely will.”
Aunt Zhen spoke firmly, but Aunt Huayíng, as Sister, was softer, saying softly, “Brother, I know you had unavoidable reasons back then. Mom has already forgiven you in her heart. She doesn’t want to use your donated kidney because she doesn’t want you to suffer.”
“But it was used anyway—”
Big Brother Zhu looked at our mother and sighed, “—Qianxia’s kidney.”
Upon hearing this, everyone turned to look at Old Lady, who immediately became displeased, putting down her chopsticks as if ready to slam the table.
She exclaimed, “Don’t pity me! I did this voluntarily, and I still have two kidneys. What’s there to pity?”
Aunt Zhen shook her head.
“We’re not pitying you. We just feel that as children, we haven’t done as much as you have.”
Old Lady muttered softly, “Am I not considered a child?”
But Aunt Zhen didn’t hear her, and it wasn’t appropriate to tell her about it.
Everyone was concerned about Grandmother, so there wasn’t much conversation during dinner. Despite the abundance of food, dinner didn’t last long.
“Finished already? That was quick.”
We returned to the ward, and Senior Sister also stood up.
“Afterwards, you all can continue chatting. There are still matters to handle at the company, and I can’t leave everything to Lingqing. Tonight, we’ll go back.”
I waved my hand and said, “We’re heading back soon too. Mom has to work tomorrow.”
Aunt Huayíng raised her hand.
“Then tonight, I’ll stay here with Mom… Fie, take Jing’er home first.”
“Mom, I want to stay and keep Grandmother company too!”
Little Jing tilted her head forward, but Fie Jie pulled her back.
“Don’t cause trouble. We have classes tomorrow.”
Aunt Huayíng echoed, “Jing’er, go home first. Come back to keep Grandmother company on the weekend, okay?”
Senior Sister said, “Director Ke will arrange personnel for post-operative care, and they will notify you immediately if there are any issues. Don’t worry too much.”
“Then Mom, I’ll leave it to you.”
Aunt Zhen thanked her, but Senior Sister just shook her head.
“I’ve known Yuehua for a long time. She’s now like… my…”
She glanced at Big Brother Zhu at the door of the ward.
“… mother-in-law? Oh!”
Despite rarely being playful, Senior Sister was pinched by Grandmother, though the details of their conversation were unknown, years of estrangement had been resolved.
“Xiao Kai, the anesthesia is almost gone. Let’s end the state of consciousness transfer.”
Upon Senior Sister’s words, Cherry Sauce snapped her fingers, and Grandmother’s clone collapsed helplessly, turning transparent like a bookmark before landing.
Bending to pick up the bookmark and tucking it into her pocket, I looked at the elderly person on the bed wearing a respirator.
Using the treatment technique developed by Senior Sister, the physical damage from the surgery was minimized. There was no bleeding, not even a single wound, and even after the anesthesia wore off, there would be no pain.
In theory, this was the case, but Grandmother frowned and twisted uncomfortably.
Lin Hua crouched beside the bed and asked, “Grandmother, is there anything wrong?”
Though consciousness had returned to her body, the anesthesia hadn’t completely worn off, so Grandmother opened her mouth but couldn’t speak. She pointed to her throat.
Lin Hua asked again, “Are you thirsty?”
Grandmother nodded slightly.
She hadn’t drunk water before the surgery started, and during the surgery, she wore a respirator. Breathing through her mouth made her thirsty.
Aunt Huayíng fetched half a cup of water from the nearby water dispenser, explaining, “Drink a little to moisten your throat. Mom can’t intake too much water at once. That unhealthy kidney can’t process it, leading to edema.”
Before Grandmother was moved to the VIP ward, Aunt Huayíng often stayed overnight to accompany her, so her skills in caring for a patient with renal failure were comparable to professional nurses.
“During this period, I’ll entrust it to you, Huayíng. I have many things to handle, and Old Tan can’t manage alone.”
“Sister, you should also take care of yourself and not overwork.”
With Grandmother falling ill, Aunt Zhen’s burden increased.
She had to learn to oversee various industries within the Huangfu family, guiding them towards success, which was the responsibility of the clan leader.
The Huangfu family was like a large ship, and Aunt Zhen was the future captain.
—
“Tired to death!”
After returning home with Jewel, Xiao Lei threw herself onto the bed without even taking a bath.
“Fool! Don’t get on the bed if you’re so dirty!”
Cherry Sauce blamed her for dirtying the sheets and grabbed her ankle, dragging her to the carpet.
“Besides, you didn’t do much today, did you? Just followed us around, right?”
“Today, Sis Sakura was really rough with me!”
Although Cherry Sauce shared the same body with me, Xiao Lei could always tell who was controlling the body.
She rolled on the ground and said, “It’s mental exhaustion. Lin Hua and Xiao Kai were in a low-pressure mood all day, and being around them made me feel suffocated. My shoulders hurt!”
She sat up and rubbed her shoulders, looking genuinely tired.
“Today’s events aren’t something to laugh about, right? And if it’s about sore shoulders, it shouldn’t be your turn. I carried those H-cup breasts all day…”
While complaining about Xiao Lei, a pair of sneaky hands grabbed my chest and tried to rub…
Coughing, to ensure the healthy development of writing this book, could I let her get away with it?
I reached back…
Only to be thrown into the bathroom by Cherry Sauce.
—”Close your eyes! Take a shower!”—
The black material that formed her clothes disintegrated in an instant.
Not having time to close my eyes, I saw two bright “full moons.”
