Chapter 30 Changes Within the Forest
After teaching the first batch of students, Lolan Hill could no longer hold on. She was becoming increasingly exhausted. After arranging matters for the Teixilang Mountains and future plans, she returned to Maple Leaf Courtyard and fell into a deep sleep.
With winter gone and spring arrived, it was another new year. The snow began to melt, and more birds appeared in the forest. Some animals also started to emerge from their caves to move around.
Zhan She Town, which was previously the village where the young lady had slain the giant snake, has now transformed into a small town. It is here that the earliest school for the Rabbit Ear Clan was established, and it is also the location of the Teixilang Mountains market.
Many rabbits come here to trade, and occasionally, a few demonic beasts would also come, trading their hunted prey for some preferred fruits and other items.
When demonic beasts have low Sequence abilities, they are not very intelligent, so usually, the Vine Fairy would come out as an intermediary to avoid both parties being cheated and to maintain order.
Her residence has also become a cluster of colorful mushroom houses outside the village, where she lives with her friends, some low-ranking fairy spirits.
At this moment, the former old village chief, who is now the town mayor, was in the hall meeting with managers from several other Rabbit Ear settlements, discussing arrangements for the new year.
“Those are the things we need to do this year. We will still focus on cultivating farmland and promoting education, aiming for another bumper harvest. Does anyone have any other questions?”
“No, now each village can basically get enough food. Clothes are still lacking, but it’s not a big problem. Once this year’s flax harvest comes in, there will be plenty.”
Managers from several other villages exchanged views below. Everyone expressed that life now was much better than before, and everyone’s faces were filled with anticipation for the new year.
“Alright, I declare the meeting over. Finally, please stand up.”
“Thank you, great Princess Lolan Hill.” The crowd stood up together, paying their respects, and then dispersed in groups.
A young man walked in. He was physically strong, but his legs were somewhat inconvenient.
“Your Excellency.”
“You’re here, Canda,” the old rabbit looked at the black-eared youth before him.
“How is your leg recovering?”
“Thanks to Her Highness’s potion, I can now walk勉强, albeit unsteadily.”
Heal up and take this time to read more books. Use your brain more often hereafter.”
”Alright.” The youth felt somewhat ashamed. His previous actions had been rather impulsive.
”Has Lady Lolan Hill not visited this year?”
”Yes, Her Highness mentioned last year that she would fall into a slumber due to some reasons, asking us not to worry and that she would return after a while.”
”But it has already been over half a year.”
”I am also unaware of the reason behind it, but even if Her Highness is absent, Kanda, we must handle everything ourselves.”
”Relying solely on Her Highness will not do. We must think for ourselves and solve our own problems to truly become stronger.” The old village chief made his son sit beside him as they were now alone in the hall.
”With Lady Lolan Hill’s talent and strength, she won’t remain in this remote forest forever. We need to grow faster to keep up with her.”
”I understand how difficult it is, but I must tell you that this must be done.”
”When I was young, I traveled many places and heard many stories. Some great figures might see you as friends or companions when they are still insignificant. But as they rapidly grow stronger, they face increasingly formidable opponents.”
”If we don’t grow, we will become a burden to the adults and gradually be sidelined. This isn’t out of others’ cruelty; it’s just that reality is not a game. Everyone can’t afford the cost of mistakes and failures. If we are weak, we should have the sense to avoid critical positions and matters.”
”I don’t want the rabbit-ears tribe to go back to the old ways, serving as servants, attendants, and assistants to others. I hope my compatriots and descendants will bear more significant responsibilities in the future.”
”I wish to wash away our clan’s shame and live with dignity.”
”Do you understand, my child?”
”I understand, Father.”
”Good. After you heal, I’ll have you continue your cultivation in the Extraordinary Sequence. At the same time, a large group of young rabbits will follow you to lay a foundation.”
”You must set a good example and train a batch of resolute warriors.”
And so, a new year began. Schools started to establish themselves in various villages, and the little rabbits were sent to learn literacy and cultivate their values. Meanwhile, the first batch of teachers were all Lolan Xi.
Unconsciously, the respect and admiration for her had spread among the younger generation as well.
To the point where a tacit understanding had formed among the teachers, each student would always keep the first dozen pages of their small notebooks blank, to record some of the words that Lolan Hill had said.
If the silver-haired girl were to see this, she would probably be so ashamed that she would want to find a black hole to hide in. It would be like the embarrassing middle school ramblings of the past being discovered years later and read out loud in public; it could not get any more awkward than that.
But unfortunately, Lolan Hill did not appear in the new year, and continued to remain in slumber within the small cottage amidst the maple forest.
As spring turned to autumn and day followed night, the town of Tesilain mountain range saw another three years pass by in a positive atmosphere.
During these years, the rabbits had stored more food than they could consume, with some even starting to mold. To avoid waste, they began to engage in animal husbandry, using surplus food to raise chickens, sheep, and cattle. Or they would give the surplus food to the demonic beasts in the mountain area, asking them to work, to excavate rocks, and search for mineral veins.
Following the metal smelting methods left behind by Lolan Hill, they started constructing blast furnaces for iron smelting. However, they later realized it was more efficient to directly invite the Rock Turtle of the Dragon Sequence 5.
Living in a dead volcano within the mountain range, the molten lava inside, once dormant, was guided by the Rock Turtle, slowly flowing out to form a natural high-temperature furnace. Thus, the rabbits moved their metallurgy site nearby, utilizing the abundant geothermal energy.
This also reduced the need for large amounts of coal consumption, and there was no significant smoke in the mountain area, reducing pollution considerably.
With the help of the Rock Turtle, which frequently bathed in the lava, metallurgy became much easier. Not only was it immune to high temperatures, but it was also sensitive to mineral veins, sometimes even spewing flames thousands of degrees hot to melt the ores. With the assistance of this stone turtle, the rabbits greatly increased their metallurgical speed.
Soon after, various towns began to see the emergence of iron farming tools and tin utensils. Meanwhile, the excellent warriors of the rabbit-eared tribe equipped themselves with fine steel lances, significantly enhancing their combat capabilities.
Due to the abundance of food, there were many newborns during these years. As a result, every town established nurseries adjacent to schools, responsible for taking care of the young members of their kind.
The demonic beasts in the mountains also indirectly benefited from this, with their numbers increasing significantly. The entire forest was immersed in a continuously improving situation.
