Chapter 30

Chapter Thirty: Funeral Supplies

“White Ling, I think we should go to school tomorrow.”

“It’s been two days since we last attended class. Isn’t that a bit inappropriate?”

“Through hard work, one finds the path in the mountain of books; in the boundless sea of learning, hardship is the boat. Reading is the ladder of human progress, and studying makes me happy.”

“Shut up and lie still.”

“Waaaaaaaah…”

Half an hour later, White Ling lay on her side, giving Blonde-haired Maiden an exasperated glance.

Just half an hour and she was already crying her eyes out, not even using telekinesis.

Today wasn’t particularly joyful or sorrowful, and it wasn’t like they suddenly got into the mood.

It was just because they were staying at a hotel—a couples’ hotel—and if they didn’t do something, it would feel like something was missing.

Of course, from White Ling’s perspective, Yuan Xiaoling felt the same—no effort, not much time, no fancy moves, but without shedding some tears, it would feel incomplete.

In short, it was all about going through the motions.

When she turned back, Yuan Xiaoling was already sound asleep. She always did this—her little head would rest on the pillow, and she’d fall into a deep slumber.

Does this blonde busty girl really have no other worries besides messing around with me?

The next morning, they still got up properly and returned to school. Though they missed two classes, at least they didn’t skip the afternoon ones.

After three whole days, Gu Hui and Qiao Lili finally saw their pretty, cute, and well-endowed roommate. They looked great—beautiful little faces glowing with vitality, as if refreshed.

“How many times?” Gu Hui asked quietly.

Yuan Xiaoling pouted slightly and coldly sniffed, “Do you remember how many slices of bread you’ve eaten?”

The teaching building for classes was far from the Physical Education Department, but Blonde-haired Maiden regained confidence.

“Could you elaborate?” Qiao Lili leaned in closer. “Give us more details.”

Yuan Xiaoling haughtily pushed her chest out. “No need for elaboration. All I can tell you is that in this battle, Bai Ling was too scared to even move a finger.”

She didn’t use her hands, but she used telekinesis.

“So impressive.”

“Totally awesome.”

The two roommates didn’t take it seriously but told her something else: “Yunhai Company has been urging you. They said there’s a new script, and they want you to try it out when you have time.”

Yuan Xiaoling blinked. “Didn’t they contact you?”

“No, only you,” Qiao Lili lowered her voice. “I feel something’s off. Be careful. If necessary, don’t go.”

“Alright, I understand.”

Whatever. Sisters here are Third-tier Grand Mastery, plus Bai Ling will definitely come along.

But that’s next week’s thing. There’s still a big show coming up this weekend.

School life was steady. Yuan Xiaoling had already graduated from her cultural courses, relying solely on talent for her professional ones. With a good voice, she was justified, and her teachers praised her for sounding smoother than before.

Water Dragon Lord was like that.

On Friday afternoon, after finishing the last class, Yuan Xiaoling bid farewell to Gu Hui and Qiao Lili and walked out of the school gate.

And then she saw White Ling waiting for her.

“White Ling, did you just finish your class?”

“No, I had no classes for the last two periods, so I came early to wait for you.”

“Oh, so you were waiting for me to go home together, hehe.”

Yuan Xiaoling thought, ‘We’re so important! The female lead can’t even return home without me.’

White Ling stood behind her, looking at the cheerful Blonde-haired Maiden without saying anything.

The day after tomorrow, at her parents’ graves, was the day she arranged for settling accounts. But today, hearing the Zhang family talk might make her lose control again.

If she went back with Yuan Xiaoling and her emotions weren’t good, she could vent on her first.

Yuan Xiaoling herself didn’t know the reason, and Blonde-haired Maiden was still happily laughing as she entered the house.

“Look who’s back,” Zhang Shanshan sat on the sofa, sarcastically saying, “Why so happy? Did you find money on the road?”

“Not exactly,” Yuan Xiaoling hummed, “But a game company invited me to voice act. Just say a few words, and I get tens of thousands of yuan.”

Zhang Shanshan couldn’t verify this anyway, so the numbers could be exaggerated freely. If she wasn’t worried about being exposed for lying, she’d definitely add a couple more zeros.

As expected, upon hearing this, Zhang Shanshan’s face turned sour.

“What’s there to be proud of? Without fame, they offer such high prices—it’s definitely a trap. You’ll regret it once you end up on someone’s bed…”

Muttering softly, Zhang Shanshan dared not continue when she saw the white-haired maiden behind Yuan Xiaoling.

Hate aside, she still remembered the speed of the basketball White Ling threw. Even a slight change in angle could have caused a physical explosion of her head. After all, heads aren’t as sturdy as concrete walls.

“Little Ling is back,” Zhang Shengkang came out holding a newspaper, “Sit down and eat first.”

He sat by the dining table, reading the newspaper while chatting casually with White Ling, asking about interesting things at school, pretending not to know about the “misunderstanding” between her and his daughter.

After dinner, White Ling voluntarily said, “Uncle Zhang, can you send me to pay respects to my parents the day after tomorrow? I checked the weather forecast, and the weather will be nice that day.”

A rare cloudy day in summer, possibly with showers, which could develop into a heavy rainstorm.

Not suitable for visiting graves, but perfect for a funeral.

Where was Zhang Shengkang paying attention to the weather two days later? Hearing White Ling say this, he truly believed it would be a sunny day. “Sure, no problem. Is there anything special we need to prepare?”

Anyway, Mr. Gray had already found people, and they just needed to confirm the time and place.

“Hmm, let’s buy some funeral supplies tomorrow,” White Ling said, “Paper money and paper offerings like that.”

This suggestion seemed very reasonable, and Zhang Shengkang didn’t hesitate to agree.

Tomorrow morning, the early-rising White Ling pulled Yuan Xiaoling up, Zhang Shengkang waited in the car at the door, and Zhang Shanshan sat in the front seat. Two members of the Zhang family set out, leaving Huang Ling to watch the house.

White Ling and Yuan Xiaoling sat together in the backseat, closing their eyes to rest.

Zhang Shengkang glanced back through the rearview mirror and said, “I saw an excellent local funeral shop online near the temple fair. Its reputation is excellent, the reviews are amazing.”

Recently, a funeral goods store suddenly became wildly popular, with extravagant praise but also extremely high prices. However, it didn’t matter much. Anyway, she was a distant niece, so let her leave with dignity.

In Zhang Shengkang’s eyes, tomorrow would be White Ling’s death day. Letting her be buried with her parents and using the most expensive paper money and offerings in the city would also count as the uncle’s “good intentions.”

As for the super-cute, well-endowed girl sitting beside her, she’d probably be taken as a plaything by those people.

What a pity.

“Hmm,” White Ling replied from the backseat, “Okay, Uncle, follow your arrangements.”

Buy whatever you want—it’s for your own use anyway.

The distance to the temple fair was roughly forty minutes by car. They encountered a bit of traffic on the way, taking nearly an hour. Fortunately, they left early, so it wasn’t yet lunchtime.

Yuan Xiaoling ate snacks idly in the car, finishing all of Zhang Shanshan’s snacks, making Zhang Shanshan grit her teeth in anger.

“Eating everything, don’t you worry about getting fat in the future?”

“Not at all,” the Blonde-haired Maiden patted her chest, “Even if I gain weight, it’ll be right here.”
