Chapter 294

Chapter 294. Base Update. (3)

But when I clicked on the detailed menu for the Base Mercenary Group, a slightly different story popped up than what I had imagined.

<Avalon Fortress Base Mercenary Group Hiring Menu>

<When hiring a mercenary group, the fleet composition is as follows.>

<Base Level x100 Points>

<Current Base Level: 5>

<The mercenary group's fleet will appear adjusted to '500 points.'>

<Commander: ???>

<The commander will be randomly assigned upon hiring the mercenary group.>

<Note that the mercenary group's commander may or may not be a superhuman.>

··· ··· ··· ··· ··· ···

“…The mercenary group’s leader isn’t a superhuman?”

“Wait, really?”

“That’s what it says.”

“Seriously?”

At those words, both Jessica and I had question marks popping up above our heads.

And for good reason. Even now, Lephan, the leader of the ‘Rhodes Mercenary Group,’ who is under an exclusive contract with me and spends every day indulging in luxury at the fortress’s resort(?), is an S~SS rank superhuman.

<Lephan>

<Level 46>

<Type: Close-Range Combatant>

<Traits: Pirate, Mercenary, Commander, Leadership, Friendly>

<Stats>

Health: S+

Attack Power: S-

Physical Defense: A-

Magic Power: B+

Magic Defense: SS-

Agility: S+

But a regular human?

How can a regular human commander possibly lead such a rough group of mercenaries?

Unless they’re planning to kill the commander and take over the leadership or something like that.

Anyway, as I was scrolling through these thoughts, a new setting caught my eye.

··· ··· ··· ··· ··· ···

<This mercenary group, while called a mercenary group, is essentially a private security force hired by you.>

<Therefore, please keep in mind that the commander may sometimes be a regular human rather than a superhuman.>

<Of course, since a regular human has taken the position usually held by a superhuman, they may demonstrate even greater leadership abilities.>

<Would you like to hire the Avalon Fortress Base Mercenary Group?>

<Required Resources: Daily Minerals 2,500, Rare Resources 550>

<Y/N>

··· ··· ··· ··· ··· ···

Seeing that, I nodded, thinking it made sense.

‘So, it’s like a leadership-focused character, got it.’

Feeling like I understood perfectly, and since I had plenty of resources to spare, I decided to go ahead and hire the mercenary group without much thought.

I mean, it’s not like they’d give me a fleet of 500 patrol ships just to match the 500 points, right?

==========

And shortly after.

In front of our Avalon Fortress, the mercenary group I hired, the ‘Avalonia Security Fleet,’ revealed itself…

<Avalonia Security Fleet>

<Fleet Composition>

<3 Battleships, 15 Heavy Cruisers, 50 Destroyers>

<Commander: Aquarias>

“Not bad, actually.”

“Right? For a single fleet, it’s quite well-balanced.”

The fleet composition itself was impeccable.

As you can tell from just a few of the posts in the gallery from those who failed at the ‘Base Mercenary Group’ gacha(?)…

WTF, are 500 patrol ships just meant to be used as cannon fodder?

And they only have basic beam cannons and missiles, nothing else.

Title: WTF, why is a mining group popping up when I hired a base mercenary group?

Author: ㅇㅇ

Content: [A mercenary group consisting of 3 cruiser battleships, 1 destroyer, 2 patrol ships, and ‘250 resource mining ships’.jpg]

What the hell is this?

Seriously, what?

And the cruiser battleships are loaded with transport compartments, what even is this?

—————————————–

Is this a joke? Seriously?

And the funniest part is, those resource mining ships can’t even be used for mining resources in my own territory.

– [Then what’s even the point of their existence?]

– [They do repairs though (OP)]

– [They’re on par with 500 patrol ships]

– [This is straight-up legendary meme material]

– [Becoming a legend isn’t easy]

—————————————–

At least it didn’t end up with the 500 patrol ship spam I was worried about.

And it’s not like I got stuck with 250 resource mining ships like some others, so I guess that’s a relief.

Anyway, I felt a sense of relief that a decent ship had come out, and then a small desire started to bubble up.

‘If this is what comes out of a level 5 base, how insane would a level 7 base be?’

And as if sensing my desire and curiosity, someone from a clan that had captured a level 7 base posted about their mercenary group.

—————————————–

Title: Level 7 Mercenary Group is Pretty Good

Author: ㅇㅇ

Content: [A mercenary group with 700 fleet points, consisting of 3 carriers, 7 battleships, 20 heavy cruisers, and 50 destroyers.jpg]

With 700 fleet points, it’s pretty stacked.

Plus, I heard that other bases don’t have this kind of info.

From level 7 onwards, mercenary groups don’t even include anything below destroyers.

So, the patrol ship spam or resource mining ship spam that occasionally pops up below level 6 is completely blocked at level 7.

Comments:

– [Wow]

– [Still, that’s only about one user fleet’s worth, so it’s a bit disappointing]

– [Considering regular mercenary groups are only about a third of a user fleet, this is still pretty good]

– [But won’t this just lead to 500 destroyer spam?]

– [Unlike patrol ships, destroyers can carry a lot of torpedoes, so it’s fine]

– [This is a pretty good lineup, but it’s hard to generalize]

—————————————–

Even though a lot of destroyers were produced.

With one mercenary group having 3 carriers, 7 battleships, and 20 heavy cruisers.

Looking at that, I thought, “Why not?”

Along with my newly acquired Avalonia Security Fleet and my other fleets.

I decided to gather enough resources and hire as many mercenary groups as possible to conquer a new base.

And not just any base, but one much larger than my current Avalon base.

Like the ‘Tanhoizer Gate Fortress’ that I gave up on conquering last time because it was just too tough.

Of course, to attack the Tanhoizer Gate Fortress, it’s clear that I’ll need way more resources than last time.

“Hmm… Jessica, how much firepower did we invest last time we attacked here, in terms of points?”

“Including 512 mercenary groups, the pirate fleet, our main force, and the monster fleet… about 120,000 points?”

‘Interesting.’

Hearing Jessica’s answer, I realized that to conquer Tanhoizer…

I’d need to invest at least 5 million minerals and 200,000 to 300,000 rare resources just for hiring.

But then I remembered the example of a small clan that had attacked a level 7 base.

“Jessica, how much firepower did Latun Water use when they attacked Tunguska Fortress City?”

Given that Latun Water had almost succeeded in capturing ‘Tunguska Fortress City’ by going all out.

I decided to ask Jessica for the answer right away.

But while doing so, I also made a rough estimate in my head.

‘Well, probably around 200,000 to 250,000 points?’

Contrary to my expectations.

“At that time, the clan had about 85 members, all around level 8, so… roughly 64,000 points?”

“Hmm.”

“And they invested about 18,000 points in mercenaries, plus the 300 commanders from the Magellan Clan and their mercenaries… at least 350,000 points in total.”

“Hmmmm.”

A fleet of about 350,000 points.

Realizing that they had invested three times the firepower I had used to barely push through.

I had to seriously reconsider whether I should attempt to solo a level 7 siege.
