Chapter 292. Base Update. (1)
Of course, Humanity couldn’t really do much about the Xenobia Empire…
They were too busy dealing with the weakened members of the purge list, putting in an insane amount of effort.
Realistically, they had no interest in the Xenobia Empire from the start.
At the same time, the so-called reinforcements from Humanity were actually just other users utilizing ships that had been seized during the invasion.
Or they were just picking up abandoned ships and using them.
But it took a surprisingly long time for that truth to come to light.
So, at this point, it was information I couldn’t possibly know.
==========
Anyway, while living a life where I occasionally checked on the civil war (?) situation in the distant Xenobia Empire…

“Hmm, finally.”
As soon as the event message popped up notifying me that the docking facility I had started earlier was complete, I immediately rushed to start building a new one.

And right after starting that construction, I decided to check how many resource mining ships I currently had.
Of course, I wasn’t about to go digging through all that myself.
“Jessica, resource mining ships.”
“28 ships. But can’t you check that yourself, Commander?”
“Sometimes, you just want to make someone else do the work for you.”
“…”
As always, I found out through Jessicaemon, who’s always on standby.
Anyway, after figuring out the number of mining ships, I decided to round it up to 30 by immediately ordering the construction of 2 more mining ships at the shipyard.
Then, I dismantled one destroyer that wasn’t for transport to free up some fleet points.
With the 100 points I gained, I started the construction of Cruiser Battleship No. 6 and Large Aircraft Carrier No. 2 at the Large Ship Dedicated Shipyard.
And as a result…

“Hmm.”
I nodded in satisfaction as the fleet points aligned perfectly with the ship composition.
But at that moment, I suddenly realized something.
Even after dumping 1.2 million minerals and hundreds of thousands of rare resources, plus additional resources…
The maximum power a user could add was just one cruiser battleship and one carrier.
“There’s definitely a limit to how much power a user can build up alone.”
Even if the next docking facility is completed, I remember the maximum would only be around 850 or 900.
At best, that’s just 3 battleships and 1 cruiser battleship.
Or 2 carriers and 1 heavy cruiser.
Or cancel the current constructions and build just 15 heavy cruisers…
Every time, I’m reminded of this, even though I’ve known it all along…
It was a fact, though.
Unless you have a cheat key like Marian, who can handle resource wars alone, it seems there’s a significant limit to how much a single user can increase their power.
Even if I were to upgrade to level 9 and then level 10…
The number of fleets I can produce myself, under the current large ship-centered organization, would struggle to exceed 100 ships.
Moreover, with the departure of the “Lairan” defense fleet, the “power” protecting me has noticeably diminished.
“Hmm, Jessica.”
“Yes, Commander.”
“If I were to go on a rampage using unlimited mercenary hires and such, how long do you think I could last?”
“Hmm… It would depend on the level of the rampage, but honestly, I doubt you’d last even a week.”
“…Is that so?”
“Yes, and didn’t you previously decide to avoid accumulating karma through such rampages?”
As Jessica said.
And as I had mentioned in the past, it was awkward to accumulate karma and run wild.
I had no intention of meeting the same fate as Raksha and the Lutton Water Clan, so for the time being, I decided to quietly gather resources and focus solely on base construction.
Later, when I had nowhere else to spend resources, I thought about expanding my territory by taking over suitable bases…
Well, I decided to make such a small and modest(?) plan.
==========
But not even a day after making that plan…
A flashy UI announcement popped up in front of me and other users, something we hadn’t seen in a while.
However, the content of the announcement wasn’t about a user participation event as usual, but rather an update-related one.

<Global Announcement>
<<<Base System Update>>>
<A message to all Commanders.>
<We have received numerous opinions that the bases Commanders are occupying or planning to occupy have little functionality beyond "self-defense.">
<After reviewing the situation, the management team has confirmed that the bases are indeed overly focused on self-defense, with no other functionalities except for resource and currency acquisition.>
<In three days, multiple system menus related to "bases" will be added through an update.>
<Detailed information will be uploaded after the update is completed in three days. We appreciate your interest.>

“…Out of nowhere?”
Seeing an update I hadn’t anticipated at all.
As someone who had been content with just capturing bases without much thought, this felt quite sudden.
‘Isn’t it enough that they give out free resources and gold every week, along with excellent self-defense capabilities for fleet construction points?’
But this was just my perspective as someone aiming for a “lone fortress.”
Curious about other users’ reactions, I quietly opened the community window.
‘Ah, crap.’
First, I naturally deleted four or five hateful image spam posts that greeted me.
Then, I opened the gallery to check the reactions… and well.

Users were burning with excitement more than expected.
Especially clan-affiliated users seemed particularly happy, revealing that user dissatisfaction was higher than I thought.
