Chapter 291: Combat Evaluation
“Combat evaluation, 60 points!”
The teacher responsible for the assessment loudly announced a student’s score and then called out the next student’s number.
In the combat courtyard, a silver-gray light grid separated the students from the inner open space. The students waiting for the exam stood on one side, watching other students’ tests while waiting.
After completing written exams, potion-making, horseback riding, and other projects, today’s combat test was the last item among all subjects. Because they were afraid that students might get injured and affect their writing and operations, combat was scheduled for last.
Lolan Hill and Letis stood in a corner of the crowd, watching the clay golems standing in the field, whispering to each other.
“Lolan, did you see those clay golems?”
“Mm-hm, I saw them. They seem to be around Sequence 3.”
“Yes, this is an improved version. The original clay golems only had Sequence 1 strength, and even strong adults could defeat them without using supernatural powers.”
“After hundreds of years of iteration and research, the lowest-ranked clay golems now have around Sequence 2 strength. This school is a bit more advanced, at Sequence 3.”
Letis introduced the development history of the golems to Lolan, as she came from a magic family and knew a lot about it. The magic golem technology in Rourna was also at the forefront of the world.
Although clay golems were somewhat cumbersome, they were easy to manufacture and mass-produce, making them the most widespread. In the former Rourna, there were even some clay golems specifically used for heavy work.
A student who was being tested walked into the middle of the open space. The supervising mentor waved his hand, and a golem wielding dual knives sprang to life, attacking the student.
This student appeared to be at Sequence 3 level, holding a curved saber and wearing light leather armor. Seeing the golem approaching, he prepared to engage in agile combat.
The surface of the yellowish-brown golem was made of hard earth blocks, with many fine cracks. The iron knife in its hand was already rusted, but it still produced a whistling sound when swung, occasionally clashing with the student’s curved saber, producing a metallic resonance, indicating its robustness.
After circling for a few rounds, the student found an opportunity, dodged to the back of the golem, and inserted a knife into a gap. Then, the blade flashed with light, preparing to tear apart the golem. However, the curved blade got stuck in the hard earth block, and the golem turned around at that moment, using the handle to nearly knock the student off balance, forcing him to drop his weapon.
The clay golem continued to swing its iron knife, and without a weapon, the student’s extraordinary abilities could only create shallow wounds, unable to bring down this sturdy golem. Finally, he was forced into a corner and had no choice but to concede defeat.
“Combat evaluation. 40 points.” The supervising teacher announced without emotion.
“No! Teacher, can you give me another chance? I was too aggressive and overestimated my strength just now,” the student anxiously stood aside, pleading repeatedly. The teacher remained unmoved, causing the scene to stall momentarily.
“Can the teacher give this student another chance?”
At this moment, a young lady stepped out from the crowd. She had long purple hair and was quite beautiful, almost matching Lolan Hill’s memory of Feng Na.
As this young lady spoke, more voices echoed in the crowd.
“Yes, give the student another chance. The school won’t lose anything.”
“Oh, she must have had a tough time.”
“No wonder she is Ausuna; she is indeed kind-hearted.”
“Do you know? I heard from the teacher that Ausuna might be a witch,” one girl whispered to her companion, which piqued the curiosity of the others.
“Really? But it’s said that new witches haven’t appeared in a long time.”
“Yes, really. Think about it, Ausuna herself is only at Sequence 4, yet she has power far exceeding Sequence 5, close to Sequence 6. Isn’t that abnormal? And during the holidays, I saw her knock down a batch of Sequence 5 demonic beasts with just a wave of her hand.”
Seeing the classmates still skeptical, the girl continued, “Teacher Anda once commented that Ausuna’s performance was like that of a witch. Everyone in Class Eight heard it, so I can’t make this up.”
“Is it that elf teacher who has lived for over 500 years?”
Some students began to believe this statement.
“Yes, it’s that gray-haired elf teacher. His style is always rigorous, so he wouldn’t say something casually.”
The students’ gazes gradually shifted towards Miss Ausuna, speculating about the new witch.
The term “witch” had been taboo for a certain period but gradually faded. Now, opinions about witches in the Ivar World were mixed. Some believed that certain witches acted recklessly, bringing misfortune to the world, while others thought witches played an indispensable role in human rise, their contributions unerasable.
But these were merely surface-level evaluations. If it were famous witches, everyone would certainly avoid them. However, if they were new witches, people would be especially curious and concerned.
Are all witches beautiful? Are witches immortal? Do witches all have special powers? These thoughts swirled in their minds, eager for answers.
The teacher in charge of supervision frowned and said, “Finish your test and get down. Otherwise, I’ll give you zero points directly.”
Amidst the sighs, the student had no choice but to leave, but before leaving, he thanked the purple-haired girl who had spoken up for him, especially after seeing her face, which caused his heart to race.
“It’s nothing. I couldn’t bear to see it, so I spoke up,” the purple-haired girl, dressed in a gothic-style dress adorned with lace patterns and small crystal skull pendants, looked mysterious and luxurious. Her classmates couldn’t help but be captivated by her presence.
“Mm, although Ausuna is a witch, she seems very kind.”
“Yes, she’s also beautiful.”
Many students’ gazes gradually focused on the purple-haired girl, and more and more people started talking about her.
“Lolan, did you see that girl?” Letis gently nudged Lolan Hill beside her.
“Yeah, I saw her. What’s up?”
“Be careful of that Ausuna in the future.”
“Why?”
The young lady was a bit puzzled.
“You haven’t experienced some of the cunning games between girls,” Letis glanced at the somewhat naive girl beside her.
“My intuition tells me that Ausuna is definitely not as kind as she appears.”
“Well, this is just a minor incident. It’s not right to judge someone’s character based on such a small thing,” Lolan Hill cautiously stated. She usually only discussed matters, rarely evaluating others’ moral character.
“Just trust me, Lolan. Although your talent is excellent, you should be more mindful of your schemes. Forget it, it’s not something worth boasting about. Just do your best. I still prefer you this way.”
“I understand what Letis means, but it’s almost Lolan’s turn now,” Bumansa walked over from behind, temporarily interrupting their conversation.
“Combat evaluation, 75 points. Next!” the teacher shouted from afar.
“It’s my turn,” Lolan Hill straightened her dark dress and prepared to step forward.
