Chapter 29: Main Assault
After hearing Mork’s analysis, the Beast King’s gaze settled on the central path that remained dormant, where Arthur’s Legion and Komit’s main force were stationed.
“Your Majesty Beast King, should you hold the line in the center, or would you prefer for me to stay here?”
“General Mork, you should stay here instead.”
The Beast King answered Mork’s question with decisive clarity. He knew he was no match for Mork. Since the center path would soon become the main attack point for the humans, it was best to have Mork remain in place.
With those words, the Beast King left the center, heading off with his personal guards towards other areas.
Immediately, some Dark Elves nearby were dispatched by Mork to hold back the human advances.
In the end, he was left standing alone.
After this news reached Arthur’s side, he finally ordered the assault on Malong Fortress.
Leading the charge with the siege engines was none other than Sal and his comrades, who had been punished by Arthur earlier.
“One two one! One two one! One two one!……”
They shouted in unison, pushing the massive siege engines swiftly towards the fortress walls.
Having lost much face before, they were determined to redeem themselves in this battle.
The strong combat desire shown by Sal and the others ignited an infectious spirit among the soldiers behind them.
Neither Airael nor Arthur had anticipated this turn of events.
Of course, they were quite pleased about it.
“If only this guy wasn’t such a gambler!”
Arthur shook his head at Sal’s antics.
Having learned more about Sal from previous events, Arthur knew this guy was a terrific fighter but utterly obsessed with gambling, so much so that he would gather others to gamble despite knowing it violated military laws.
“Arthur, nobody is perfect, and gambling is something one can overcome.”
Airael chimed in to soothe him.
“Given the previous lesson, I don’t expect him to quit completely; just that he stops doing the same foolishness in the barracks.”
“I believe he will learn his lesson!”
Arthur looked at Airael in confusion, unsure why she was so certain.
“That’s just what I feel,” Airael smiled slightly, then asked, “Don’t you wish for such a thing to happen, Axi?”
“Of course I do, it’s just…”
Arthur didn’t finish his sentence.
“Alright, let’s cut out the extra chatter. We’re in the middle of a battle; we should focus on the battlefield.”
Airael made sure he didn’t say any more.
Nearby, Cain silently wiped away a few beads of cold sweat.
Wow! Did they just realize they were in the midst of a battle now?
“Got it!”
Arthur replied.
Then the two shifted their attention from Sal back to the battlefield.
At that moment, they were already within the attacking range of the fortress.
The Dark Elves they faced had begun to use their defensive machinery to counterattack.
These weak attacks had minimal impact on the entire legion; they only slightly slowed their advance.
For instance, Sal’s line of siege engines was hit directly by a massive rock, creating a gaping hole and costing several soldiers inside their lives.
However, this didn’t defeat them; the siege engines continued pushing toward the fortress walls.
Just as the human soldiers were about to board the walls, Andrew, who had quietly followed behind, first unleashed his magic.
As a silver magic circle appeared on the wall, the gigantic form of the Stone Golem shone brightly into view.
As soon as it appeared, this big guy swept away the surrounding enemies, sending them flying.
If it fell on the wall, it was one thing, but falling off the wall would be a whole different story—very unfortunate indeed.
After quickly dispatching the nearby enemies, the Stone Golem immediately turned its attention to the enemies around it.
However, this time the Dark Elves and Orcs were prepared.
Thus, the impact of the attack was not ideal.
The Dark Elves deftly avoided its strikes.
Most of the Orcs managed to dodge as well, with only one or two unlucky souls suffering.
Even though the results were less than stellar, one notable consequence was that the enemy formation in this area of the wall was disrupted by the Stone Golem.
As long as the human soldiers were able to climb the wall here, they could easily secure a foothold.
Following this, the Orcs and Dark Elves began their counterattacks.
But the results were still not ideal.
Whether it was magic, arrows, or axe strikes in close combat, none were able to inflict substantial damage on the Stone Golem.
And any minor damage inflicted quickly healed.
Before long, Mork noticed the situation here.
Seeing the familiar Stone Golem, Mork’s expression turned extremely grim.
Simultaneously, this reinforced his belief that this was indeed the main attack point for the humans.
Not losing focus for too long, Mork quickly began directing the troops on the wall.
For that giant, the people below had no way to deal with it, and even he found it quite tricky.
Thus, Mork didn’t command his subordinates to face off directly but instead told them to evade.
Once the orders were given, Mork took the initiative to confront the giant.
Keeping the soldiers ducking indefinitely wasn’t feasible; the key was still to deal with this giant.
It naturally fell to him to handle.
At that moment, Sal’s team, which had been the first to reach the wall, was preparing to climb up.
On the walls, the Stone Golem had cleared a sizable spot for them.
“Charge up and kill those damned Orcs!”
With Sal’s loud roar, the soldiers pushed open the door before them, letting it rest against the wall, and then they climbed up the ramp to the walls.
Upon reaching the walls, the soldiers moved in the opposite direction of the Stone Golem.
That way, it was okay since only the Stone Golem was engaged there; their presence would just be in the way.
With Sal and his crew facilitating, the other siege engines also successively reached the wall, allowing the soldiers to engage the enemies stationed there.
Airael and the others were among them.
They weren’t particularly looking for Mork.
Before they found Mork—or rather, before he found them—they preferred to expand their own gains first.
Otherwise, it wouldn’t go as smoothly later.
Under their guidance, the human soldiers sang fiercely as they charged forward on the wall, just like days before.
Especially on the Stone Golem’s side.
Its colossal figure truly stood like a one-man army.
However, it quickly encountered a formidable foe—Mork.
Mork squeezed through the crowd, taking advantage of the Stone Golem’s moment of inattention to leap onto a nearby parapet, and then leaped again off the parapet, lunging directly at the Stone Golem that was assaulting the Orcs.
