Chapter 29

“But, Cecilia looks too worn out.”

At that moment, I couldn’t help but wonder if there was a different way to handle it if I hadn’t stopped Cecilia.

“…Once my Wind Shear is over, concentrate all firepower.”

There must be a way for Cecilia not to risk her life.

‘Why have I only feared Cecilia until now?’

I could hardly stand my own foolishness.

Cecilia was a righteous knight who would unhesitatingly sacrifice her life to protect others.

‘Get a grip, Beatrice. Cecilia is still alive.’

Beatrice gritted her teeth.

She wouldn’t let it happen like that.

Determined to find the Deception and cause as much damage as possible.

So that Cecilia could shoot it down at her climax.

“Your Excellency!”

Beatrice’s brilliant flash pierced through the great ogre’s heart in an instant.

She approached Count Aldred.

“This is Cecilia’s message. The moment Wind Shear is over, concentrate all firepower at the designated location.”

“…!”

Aldred, who had plenty of battlefield experience, instantly grasped what that meant.

He widened his eyes and looked back. There stood a silver-haired girl confidently atop the castle wall.

“…So, when she said she would definitely take it down, that was what she meant.”

“Yes. Cecilia is already… not thinking about her own chances of survival.”

The two paused for a moment, forgetting they were amidst a battle.

But Aldred’s fighting spirit flared even more.

“Listen up, everyone! Knights and mages who can use mana, conserve as much as you can! We’re going to find the Deception quickly!”

“Yes—!”

The knights who couldn’t use mana roared and hurriedly dealt with the monsters.

The knights of the Barony were formidable. The monsters, densely filling the meadow, were dispatched at a rapid pace.

But there were just too many.

‘I need to find the Deception before we’re too exhausted. Where is that Deception?’

Beatrice swatted aside an orc’s axe that came flying at her.

The axe got lodged in the ground. In an instant, Beatrice climbed onto the axe and stomped on the orc’s head to leap into the air.

A demon in a red suit, leisurely watching the battlefield with folded arms, caught her eye.

It was a demon that didn’t mimic humans but had its own distinct form.

As Beatrice sliced the orc in half upon landing, she shouted towards Aldred.

“Form up in formation twelve! Injured soldiers, quickly yield your positions!”

The knights moved in unison, creating a spear-like formation. Beatrice surged forward, slicing through monsters at an unbelievable speed.

“Count Ultran! Clear the path! The remaining two Sword Demons, store your power at the tips of your wings!”

“Yes!”

“No! All three Sword Demons, clear the path! I will provide support!”

Beatrice layered her sword over one arm behind the front three.

“Luminous Ascend.”

The divine light pierced through the three knights. They opened their eyes wide, feeling an overwhelmingly increased strength.

“The duration is only 40 seconds! We need to clear the path before Luminous ends!”

“Follow the word of the Windsor! Clearing the path comes first; let the following ranks handle the rest!”

“Yes!”

“Upper Wing, spread your wings!”

At Aldred’s shout, the right side of the spear spread open. The monsters naturally veered leftward.

The soldiers on the right side suffered a few injuries from the reckless charge. They fell back skillfully, and the gaps were filled by those behind them.

Meanwhile, the soldiers on the left wing opted for defense instead of charge. But the wave of incoming monsters pressed them to their limits. Just as it seemed like they would break, Baron Aldred raised his sword high.

“Lower Wing, fold your wings! Upper Wing, keep pushing forward!”

As the monsters on the left wing were pushed forward when the soldiers retreated, a sudden vacuum in the space made a crack in the battlefield. The Baron didn’t miss that opportunity.

“Mages—! Fire upon the Lower Wing all at once!”

The mages’ blessings erupted simultaneously. The colorful light emitted from their staffs dealt a fatal blow to the demons clustered on the left side.

“The front line is accelerating! Upper and Lower Wing, fold your wings and focus on breaking through!”

“Yes—!”

“Those injured in the Upper Wing, quickly retreat from the battlefield! Lower Wing will fill the empty space!”

The army, once again shaped like a spear, closed the gap between the Upper and Lower Wings.

As the injured gathered toward the back, they retreated while filling the void left behind.

“Anchor down! Upper and Lower Wings, spread your wings and fixate! The front line will break formation and assist them!”

Beatrice was breathing heavily as she stared ahead.

She saw a demon looking at this scene, arms crossed with an expression of mere amusement.

Behind it were its followers.

Making it seem like they wanted to express that monsters and themselves were different, they stood at a distance.

“Your Grace will protect me.”

“…Your Grace’s knight is stronger than me.”

“You must have a plan too.”

“…!”

“Our side’s personnel are already known to the Deception. In contrast, you know nothing about what that plan is. Regardless of what it is, the possibility of it working is very high. The opponent is Deception. Arrogance is their nature.”

Aldred’s gaze turned cold as he looked at the demon and boldly stepped forward.

As the demon fiddled with its chin and stared directly at them, it straightened its red tie and spoke.

“Step back.”

It was a voice that felt like it was ringing in the brain rather than the ears.

Monsters halted their battle all at once and retreated.

The demon walked forward. Aldred and Beatrice met that demon in the middle.

‘About 70% of our strength remains. I need to decide now. Should I buff Cecilia or directly strike?’

Tense gazes.

The demon shrugged its shoulders as it spread both arms.

“You don’t even know how to have a conversation, do you?”

“Everyone, don’t let the retreating enemy escape.”

The soldiers gripped their weapons and slashed at the fleeing monsters all at once.

The monsters that had already received the command to retreat fell without resistance.

The demon sighed.

“Killing a peace envoy is truly inhumane! How could this be?”

“What kind of peace envoy would not understand human language?”

“Oh dear, how discriminatory of a remark! Monsters are living beings, too. Is it justifiable to kill beings simply because they speak a different language?”

The demon shook its head as if genuinely lamenting.

‘It’s too early to deal with Deception. I must dispose of those followers behind it somehow. But how?’

While Aldred’s face grew stern.

The demon clapped its hands together.

“Let’s do this. Since misunderstandings have arisen, let’s reopen the dialogue of unity.”

“…Unity?”

“Yes. However, we, out of respect for you, did not kill a single one of you—”

The demon suddenly appeared right in front of Aldred.

So close one could feel its breath.

“But you have killed quite a few of us, don’t you find that rather unfair?”

Beatrice swung her sword without hesitation.

But the sword sliced only through empty air. The demon had already retreated.

“Well, I’ll let that slide. After all, I’m a very generous demon, unlike humans.”

The demon shrugged its shoulders.

“Our proposal is simple. Very, very simple, and incredibly generous.”

Aldred briefly looked away.

Aldred gritted his teeth.

“What part of it seems generous?”

It spread four fingers behind its back.

‘A kill order.’

The knights simultaneously prepared their attack.

“You say you’re generous—!”

But—

No matter how much time passed, the attacking knights did not move.

Aldred looked around in confusion.

It was as if time had stopped, with knights frozen in place.

Fear.

They couldn’t even move at the mere presence of the demon.

Aldred’s confusion was evident.

‘…An elite demon suppressed three Sword Demons with Fear?’

“Ugh.”

Beatrice bit her tongue to overcome the Fear.

Shaking hands somehow managed to lift her sword toward the sky.

‘I have to use Roar of Light somehow.’

But even that was her limit. Beatrice couldn’t lift her sword up.

Just as she was about to plead with the Count to help her somehow…

“Ha.”

The demon seemed unable to contain its laughter as it watched Beatrice struggling.

“Hahaha!”

It laughed uncontrollably for a while.

The demon wiped away tears and said,

“Ah, you’re truly amusing! But…”

The demon’s eyes turned cold. Along with that, the followers who had been quietly standing behind it began to move.

“The spectacle I just witnessed…isn’t that a Deception towards me?”

‘It’s over.’

Beatrice closed her eyes.

‘Run, Cecilia.’

A dark shadow encroached upon the light.

They appeared to be human in form, yet their faces seemed dipped in black paint, emanating an instinctual sense of dread.

Beatrice embraced her fate.

Yet, one wish she held dear.

Please, may Cecilia sense this anomaly and make a cold judgment.

If only she could survive, lead the reinforcements, and eliminate this dangerous demon.

“…How can a human?”

Beatrice opened her eyes.

The demon stood there with an expression of disbelief.

In front of it stood Cecilia, with an indifferent expression.

Her sword plunged into the heart of the monster that had been targeting Beatrice.

“Thank you for your hard work.”

“Who… what are you?!”

In response to the furious cry of Deception, shadows began to rise.

Countless numbers rushed toward Cecilia, far greater than before.

Swish-!

Swiftly yet precisely. Without a single flaw.

Beatrice, Aldred, and the knights stared in a daze at Cecilia’s sword dance.

They had no thought of intervening. Stepping into that domain felt like a hindrance instead.

When they snapped back to reality, they saw Cecilia standing triumphantly over countless piles of demon corpses.

Not a single one out of place.

“Brace yourselves for shock. It’s recommended you wrap your bodies in blessings.”

Cecilia calmly spoke as she brushed off her sword in mid-air.

Beatrice snapped back to attention and urgently said to Cecilia,

“C-Cecilia! No! That demon is far beyond our expectations—!”

Cecilia smiled brightly as she replied,

“You did well. But now, it’s my domain.”

Beatrice’s pupils trembled uncontrollably. As if she had made a resolution, she shouted at Cecilia.

“Luminous Ascend!”

Gold light surrounded Cecilia’s body. Puzzled, she spoke up.

“It’s a blessing that expends all my mana. The duration is set to two minutes. You must… win.”

Cecilia nearly fainted.

So overwhelmingly…

‘So, so adorable.’

“What are you doing? How dare you leave me behind!”

As Cecilia felt warmth and emotion, she was seized by deep anger at the wicked demon shattering that emotion.

“That’s blatant Deception…!”

The demon couldn’t finish its scream.

Before long, Cecilia was already behind it.

The demon gritted its teeth and turned around, reaching out toward Cecilia.

‘What an emotional moment.’

Everyone fought valiantly.

No one was a troll, and especially Beatrice exhibited her brilliant talent.

Who knew she could show such a side. So impressive.

Then it was my turn to repay that.

Cecilia smiled faintly.

And lightly, yet firmly, said,

“Wind Shear.”

A storm descended that could not be resisted.
