Chapter 289: Red Envelope for Starting Work

Mei Fang, despite feeling a bit under the weather, got up early the next day and went to Lin Xi Technology’s office building with Xia Yuan and Lin You Xi. They were there to distribute red envelopes to employees who had returned to work after the holiday.

Everyone had just emerged from the festive mood and came back to work with even more fatigue than Mei Fang. Seeing that their bosses, who should have been enjoying their holidays, had come to the office as well, they immediately became interested. Yunzi, an operations specialist, took the opportunity to tease when collecting the red envelopes:

“Why is the station chief here today! Shouldn’t you still be on winter break? Have you finished your homework?”

“Not yet. Will you help me? You graduated from a 211 university, right.”

Mei Fang’s stern look made Yunzi instantly shut up, “I used to be good at it, but now I can’t remember anything. I’ve given all the high school knowledge back to the teachers.”

“Instead of helping, you bring up my worries. I’ll deduct your bonus.”

“Oh no, Station Chief!”

Laughter erupted among the crowd.

Currently, Lin Xi Technology was divided into five departments based on function: programming, planning, art, operations, and administration. After recruiting new members, including some from the Ximilu studio, the company had grown to about 50 people. Within the company, people generally used nicknames rather than names when addressing each other.

The programming department, led by Lin You Xi, was split into front-end and back-end groups, each headed by Cheng and Robin respectively. The programmers were mostly male, but they worked smoothly with You Xi because she was very professional and strict in her work. Everyone followed her orders without question, which seemed to align with the nature of introverted programmers.

Mei Fang was in charge of the planning department, overseeing writing, systems, and execution. The main task was to refine some of Mei Fang’s rough plans. Cola, a very active member, was mainly responsible for writing. Her optimistic and lively personality served as a bridge between the programmers and the artists.

The art department currently consisted of three original artists and five UI designers. Qingniao, a veteran C-site user and a core developer from the start, was the head of the original art group and also the head of the art department. She was often mistaken for the “big sister,” liked wearing Hanfu to work, and was considered the most eye-catching sight in the company.

The operations department nominally had Yue Xinyi as the operations director, but Fengling actually managed it. Yunzi, who loved stirring trouble, worked under Fengling. The operations department mainly handled forum management and information collection, and also website testing.

With professional staff running the website forums, due to preparing for the college entrance exam, Yue Xinyi had no time to focus on work. Currently, she acted more like a mascot for the operations department, occasionally popping up during breaks to supervise the team. As an elder of C-site, Yue Xinyi’s status as a leader was undisputed.

On the Ximilu game side, a new coconut juice project team was formed to develop casual games. They were currently building a team for developing a match-3 casual game. The structure was similar to the Ximilu studio, and most of the members were transferred from Mei Fang’s C-site outsourced projects. There were about ten people in total, but this will not be detailed further.

As for the main Ximilu studio, it was in a semi-idle state, mainly working on the mobile version of Cloud Journey, and making minor adjustments and bug fixes.

Mei Fang was satisfied with the current performance of Cloud Journey. With the joint efforts of C-site and Yuanbao, the sales of the single-player version of Cloud Journey had exceeded 100,000 copies, which was undoubtedly the top domestic single-player game sales in 2013. After all, there weren’t many competitors on the market this year.

Regarding overseas distribution and operation on STEAM, Mei Fang was coordinating. Games like this would likely perform better on mobile platforms and global markets. Mei Fang developed this game to compete with the yet-to-be-born Monument Valley.

After distributing red envelopes, Mei Fang, Xia Yuan, and Lin You Xi gave speeches. Xia Yuan was approachable and cute, while You Xi was cold and serious. Mei Fang combined both styles and talked about financial freedom, encouraging everyone to continue working hard.

Young people like Mei Fang, who achieved success at a young age, were usually arrogant and self-assured. However, Mei Fang did not show these traits. He did not boast about his achievements and always appeared tired.

It must be because he was so busy with both studies and work that he got sick.

With such a diligent boss, everyone felt hopeful about their future. Better days were surely ahead!

After distributing red envelopes, Mei Fang and Xia Yuan, along with Lin You Xi, took the subway home. As soon as he sat down, Mei Fang lightly tapped Xia Yuan and Lin You Xi on the head.

“Next time, don’t cause such a ruckus, okay?”

Xia Yuan held her head, looking aggrieved, and immediately turned against her friend, You Xi: “Yesterday’s idea was proposed by You Xi; I was just an accomplice. Why hit us equally?”

Lin You Xi, after being tapped, didn’t retaliate but smiled and shook her head, “Last night, you were having fun too. Ah Fang, you’re not honest.”

“Regardless, I think we need to establish some rules living together, especially since we’re still in high school. We need to slowly build trust with our parents, or our plan will fall apart.”

“I understand… Yesterday was just for the anniversary, so we were a bit more relaxed.”

Xia Yuan muttered and scratched her head, “Speaking of which, did Ah Fang contact that uncle introduced by my dad?”

“He said he contacted him this morning. I plan to meet him tomorrow.”

“How many of us are going?”

Lin You Xi asked, “Considering that uncle used to be a boss himself, he might hold a higher position.”

“That’s true… Would hiring someone like him as our general manager cause dissatisfaction among the staff?”

“Firstly, you need to understand that tomorrow’s meeting is an interview. I’ll decide whether to hire him after the interview.”

“Someone around my dad’s age… Our oldest employee is Robin, who is 28. Can he adapt to our company culture? I’m worried about a generation gap…”

Lin You Xi thought about something else: “People of that age often have complex thoughts. If he controls the company, I fear he might eventually empty the company and start his own venture.”

“Yes, yes, many villains in TV dramas are like that. Ah Fang, you need to be careful.”

“I’m aware… Although we want to make C-site our utopia, if we get involved in business warfare, we still need experienced people to guide us. Especially in the coming period, we’ll be busy, so we still need someone to manage things. Besides, Sister Yueyue controls the finances and personnel, so it won’t be easy for others to interfere.”

Listening to Mei Fang’s reasonable explanation, Lin You Xi and Xia Yuan stopped worrying about the issue.

“In short, Ah Fang knows what he’s doing,” Xia Yuan nodded, “I also need to prepare for my third album before the end of this semester.”

Thank you to Water Wu Yi Yue for the silver gift. I also noted Liu Bojun’s sponsorship and am still one chapter short. I’ll need to work hard to catch up!
