Nia Cynthia is coming to Jerion Academy as a Magic Arts Professor.
This was completely unexpected news.
For good reason, in all the games I’ve played, Nia Cynthia had never come as a professor even once.
‘Why is that?’
What influenced this decision to bring Nia to Jerion Academy?
I honestly had no clue.
‘Nia Cynthia is on the side of the 1st Prince.’
The 1st Prince has only one reason to be interested in Jerion Academy. It’s when Lucas shines.
‘Hanon Irey was initially sent to lure Lucas out.’
But Hanon didn’t transfer here. More accurately, I came here pretending to be Hanon.
At that point, the 1st Prince lost interest in Jerion Academy.
After all, the 1st Prince is not a future-oriented individual.
He wants to be close to the figures who currently dominate the political scene.
He wasn’t interested in the little chicks waiting to enter politics ten years later.
So he willingly handed over Jerion Academy’s future talent to the 3rd Princess, Iris Haishirion.
Because he was confident that if he could assimilate the current political figures, he would definitely become the Emperor.
‘Lucas is dead.’
The current-oriented 1st Prince has no Lucas to catch his attention anymore.
And now Nia, who could’ve become the 1st Prince’s closest aide, is coming to the Academy? The situation doesn’t line up.
“What a messed-up world.”
I sighed as I passed through the hallway.
In a world already facing a bad ending, it’s tough to steer things toward a proper storyline.
Now, problems were rolling in from outside Jerion Academy.
‘Has something changed with the 1st Prince?’
I had no immediate ideas.
So I was on my way to find out.
I spotted a familiar door. It was the Student Council room.
Knock knock—
After knocking twice, I slowly opened the door.
It was out of consideration for whoever was inside.
As the door creaked open, I caught sight of a girl holding a feather pen amid sunlight streaming in behind her.
Her long silver hair shone beautifully in the light, framing her blue eyes that held the depth of the sea, staring straight at me.
At first glance, she seemed cold, but when she saw me, she slowly smiled, dissolving that impression.
“Well, well. Isn’t this a junior who made quite the splash on the 1st floor of the Magic Dungeon?”
Nikita spoke as if she was boosting my ego.
As Nikita said, the news of our team’s performance had spread among the students.
We had successfully thwarted the Forest Guardian’s attack, which could’ve resulted in severe casualties.
Having foreseen the danger and blocked it without any fatalities, the Academy promised us special rewards.
An official investigation into the Magic Dungeon’s transformation was also initiated.
It’s fortunate for me since this will lead to additional preventive measures in the future.
“Is it just Nikita making waves?”
But it wasn’t just our team that had performed well.
Nikita’s team, made up of 3rd years, had reached the 6th floor of the Magic Dungeon.
The maximum reach for 3rd years so far had been the 5th floor.
Nikita’s team set a new record right after moving up to the 3rd year.
This clearly placed Nikita’s team at the forefront among the current 3rd years.
Yet, Nikita smiled bittersweetly at my praise.
“When you think about it, it’s just average speed based on previous standards. It’s not that special. Our generation doesn’t seem to have much talent.”
As she said, the pool of talent among the 3rd years isn’t that great.
Just last year’s graduates had reached the 6th floor in their 2nd year.
And in their 3rd year, they went beyond the 7th floor and even reached the 8th floor.
In contrast, the current 3rd years, just now hitting the 6th floor.
This is probably why this current 3rd year is somewhat dubbed the weakest generation.
“Moreover, I’ve heard other juniors also made it to the 5th floor in this Magic Dungeon. They’ll soon catch up to us.”
As Nikita remarked, there are already teams among the 2nd years that have reached the 5th floor.
With the next Magic Dungeon battle expected to see 6th floor reach, it won’t take long for Nikita’s team’s achievements to be matched.
‘The talent pool among the 2nd years is off the charts.’
The 2nd years include the main character Lucas.
Referred to as the generation of golden flames.
The last princess, Iris Haishirion.
The lazy genius, Ban.
The genius wizard with a starry sky, Sharine.
The saint, SirMiel of Eden.
Just looking at this, you can tell the talent pool is insane.
These gifted individuals are still many, and there are those yet to awake their potential.
‘Of course, it makes sense, since it’s the protagonist’s generation.’
The protagonist is at the center of driving the game’s narrative.
It’s only natural that talent gathers around a generation led by the protagonist.
Thus, the 2nd years and the 3rd years appear starkly contrasted.
The reason the relationship between the 2nd and 3rd years isn’t too friendly is also because of this.
“Why do I care what others think?”
But for me, it was a good thing.
“For Nikita, a new record was set, right? Then it’s only appropriate to congratulate you.”
A record had been broken.
She had achieved new results through her hard work.
Nothing could be more important than that.
Nikita’s eyes widened slightly.
Then, with a bit of softening in her gaze, a smile began to form.
“You really know how to say nice things, Junior.”
This is something I often hear from Nikita.
“But other friends say I talk nonsense?”
“That’s strange. By my standards, you always only speak beautifully. Why not try talking to others like you do with me?”
“No way. This is exclusive for you, Nikita-senpai.”
“…Should I be happy about that?”
Nikita had a somewhat complicated expression.
This is something I learned from Sharine not too long ago.
But sadly, it didn’t quite land.
I stepped closer to Nikita.
While doing so, I naturally took over part of the work she was doing.
“What is it?”
“I heard that Nia Cynthia is coming here as a Magic Arts Professor.”
As I picked up the feather pen in front of me, I began my task.
“As a junior who always depends on you, I thought I should pay my respects.”
“Stop it.”
And then a cold voice came from Nikita.
My gaze, which was on the paper, shifted to her.
As our eyes met, she covered her mouth with her hand, surprised by her own tone.
“Ah, um, not that…”
Nikita waved her hands, flustered, trying to smooth things over.
But I had already guessed why she reacted that way.
Nikita really admires Nia Cynthia.
For her, Nia is an idol, someone to look up to, and a cool older brother.
Yet behind that admiration lurks jealousy as well.
The Cynthia family is a prestigious magic family.
And Nikita was born without any magical talent in such a family.
The evaluation she receives from those around her is that of a pretty doll for a strategic marriage.
People feel regret for what they lack.
Nikita also wished that she was born with magical talent, and there were times when she felt so.
Nikita isn’t a flawless superhuman.
No matter how great an older brother is, somewhere deep in her heart, jealousy resided.
She just never shows it as she matures.
But now, for the first time, that jealousy peeked through.
And it surfaced in my direction.
I’m someone who endlessly praises Nikita.
Whenever I see her, praising her ten times a day is the norm.
I’m the only one who consistently looks on the bright side regardless of what she does.
This is something Nikita hasn’t experienced even as a child.
She was used to being undervalued rather than praised throughout her life.
At first, she was embarrassed, not knowing how to react to my compliments.
Recently, however, she has started to enjoy it and discreetly gestures for more praise.
And it’s incredibly cute.
Somewhere along the way, my compliments have deeply penetrated Nikita’s life.
Once you’ve tasted praise, there’s no going back.
And now, here comes Nia Cynthia.
Nia Cynthia is someone Nikita could consider her ultimate version.
Having lived a lifetime being compared to Nia, Nikita couldn’t have what Nia possesses, while Nia has everything Nikita doesn’t.
I sought to join the Student Council because I admired Nikita.
What would happen if I came face-to-face with Nia Cynthia, who is a higher version of Nikita?
For a fleeting moment, Nikita imagined that. Imagining that I would be taken away by Nia Cynthia.
As a child, I was the fulfillment of that almost forgotten feeling of commendation that she never received.
For Nikita, it must feel like having her beloved toy snatched away.
“Nikita-senpai, I’m not going anywhere. The only one I admire is you, Nikita-senpai.”
So I decided to let Nikita know for certain.
Nia Cynthia wasn’t even on my radar.
I only admire Nikita.
Once I communicated this, the startled Nikita slowly lifted her head.
It seemed I had sparked something in her as her eyes widened.
Whoosh!
Nikita then vanished. More precisely, she ducked under the desk.
Seems like she realized what her earlier words meant only now.
I pushed my chair and moved toward Nikita’s desk.
“Wait, don’t come closer!”
Nikita shouted, covering her face with both hands from under the desk.
She looked like a hamster hiding in a tiny hole.
I naturally sat in Nikita’s chair.
“Phew, Junior, you can go home now!”
“Not a chance. Since you doubted me, I must assure you today! I only admire you, Nikita-senpai!”
“Junior, you are sometimes so quick to pick up on things that I end up hating it! But why are you so clueless right now?!”
“To reassure you and lay my heart bare, I can put aside my cleverness for now.”
“But you have no regard for me in that!”
From under the desk, I heard Nikita making whimpering sounds.
This must be what sadism feels like. I’ve learned something new.
Still, sensing that Nikita was reaching her limit, I considered stopping.
“Um, what even is this situation?”
A new voice chimed in.
Thud!
Nikita jolted upright, only to bump her head against the desk.
As she cradled her head, swallowing her groans, I turned my head.
And there stood a handsome guy with long silver hair, just like Nikita.
I knew exactly who he was.
Nia Cynthia.
The very person we’d just been discussing had entered the Student Council room.
“O-older brother…”
Nikita scrambled out from behind the desk and lowered her head.
Seeing this, Nia let out a bright smile.
“Nikita, care to explain what’s going on?”
Big brother just arrived.
