Chapter 277: The Arrival of the Finals
Under the starlit night sky, the central giant stone pillar had been repaired, and the cold, hard stone ground was covered with a layer of grayish-white, whether by moonlight or winter frost. The students gradually returned to the spectator stands, sitting together and whispering among themselves, eagerly awaiting the start of the finals.
Lolan Hill flew up spiraling from one side of the stone pillar in a black dress and found the familiar figures, walking over.
“Lolan, you finally came! We thought you wouldn’t come watch the finals,” Alena waved at her.
“Sorry, I had something to do during the day, but fortunately, I have free time tonight,” Lolan Hill explained, waving back.
“Lolan, here.” Ye Ling handed her a black lacquer box adorned with dark red phoenix patterns.
“What’s this?” Lolan Hill looked curiously at Ye Ling, who was wearing a fur-trimmed dress.
“These are goldfish cakes from the House of Plantagenet; I bought them at the Autumn Moon Lantern Festival,” Ye Ling said, holding the lacquer box with both hands and placing it in Lolan Hill’s arms before squeezing next to her.
“This can be kept in a special box for a long time without spoiling. It’s quite tasty even when eaten cold,” she continued introducing.
“Woah, Ye Ling is so biased! She gave us small boxes, but a big one to Lolan,” Lily chimed in, slightly dissatisfied as she playfully pinched Ye Ling’s nose.
“Because I like Lolan the most,” Ye Ling boldly declared, then hugged Lolan Hill beside her, her head rubbing against hers, causing Lolan Hill to feel a bit ticklish with her milky-white hair strands brushing her neck.
“Alright, alright, stop rubbing,” Lolan Hill picked Ye Ling up, cradling her like a large doll, and rested her chin on Ye Ling’s hair.
“You’re heavy, Ye Ling has gained weight,” Lolan Hill whispered in Ye Ling’s ear, then held her tight again as Ye Ling tried to struggle free.
“Lolan, you always spoil her,” Bumansa said from behind, helplessly shaking her head.
Afterward, Lolan Hill placed the lacquer box in Ye Ling’s lap, asking her to open it. Inside the rectangular box were two fish-shaped pastries. The main body of the pastries was soft and white, with small pieces of colorful ingredients forming red and blue scales on the surface.
The overall design was beautiful, with lifelike red and blue scales arranged in a fan shape.
The taste was different. First, the main body of the fish was soft and slightly sweet, with a light red filling inside that resembled egg yolk; Night Spirit said it was made by crushing some flower petals and mixing them with eggs and flour. The scales on the surface also had two flavors; the red scales had a slightly sour taste, while the blue ones had a cool sensation, melting in the mouth and diluting the sweetness of the fish, bringing a better experience.
Lolan希尔 soon realized that these two goldfish cakes were made with extraordinary materials, exuding a gentle and rich magic. [Red and Blue Ice Scale Goldfish Cake] (Rating: Rare Golden Grade.)
“Thank you, Night Spirit,” Lolan希尔 tore off a piece of the goldfish cake and put it in Night Spirit’s mouth.
“Mmm, as long as Sister Lolan isn’t fooled by those boys,” Night Spirit said while eating, seemingly very afraid that Lolan would accept the advances of certain people.
“It won’t happen, Little Night Spirit,” Lolan希尔 herself ate a small piece of the goldfish cake and then shared many pieces with her dorm mates. In truth, for her, golden-grade pastries like this were no longer very useful, but since Night Spirit kindly brought them, she still needed to eat some, or else it would hurt her feelings too much.
With occasional conversations among the girls, the final three matches began.
“Bridge Pier Academy’s Darxi vs. High Tower Academy’s Xingliu.”
As the announcer declared, two figures appeared on either side of the arena. On one side was Xingliu in a blue-black exquisite dress, and on the other side was a burly man wielding a steel lance.
Due to the age restrictions at Emanas, students were generally not too old, but this student looked mature, with a square face and clearly defined muscles, giving an impression of being cast from iron. He stood there with a calm and resolute demeanor, exuding a mountain-like pressure.
Xingliu transformed again into a black dragon, and under the starlight, the dragon scales reflected a mysterious and powerful glow.
“Match begins.”
After the referee announced, Xingliu leaped into the sky, using her familiar tactic of pouring a reverse flow of flames onto the field, which was one of her signature moves. Each time she faced an opponent, she would do this; if they could withstand it, they continued fighting, and if they couldn’t, they were defeated directly.
Darxi kicked off the ground, launching himself like a cannonball, breaking through the air and charging head-on. Before the black dragon could unleash all its flames, he punched it in the chin, causing the dragon’s mouth to close tightly, and the internal flames to explode.
The black dragon’s pupils emitted a brilliant red light, and black smoke rose from its ears as it flapped its wings and flew into the sky.
Prepared to shake off Darsi, who was not good at flying.
But at this moment, Darsi had already climbed to the dragon’s head, gripping the dragon’s horn tightly with one hand and holding his lance firmly with the other. With a dull thud, the lance thrust out forcefully, piercing straight through the back of the black dragon’s neck, its bloodied tip emerging from the front of the dragon’s throat.
Due to the destruction of the nerves in its neck, the black dragon lost consciousness and fell from the sky, crashing heavily onto the stone platform with a sound of bones breaking.
Following that, Darsi descended from the dragon’s body, covered in hot, black, and red dragon blood, steaming in the winter night.
“Darsi wins.”
After the referee announced, medical personnel rushed up to the stone platform, carrying away Xingliu, who had reverted to human form. The scene inside and outside the arena was eerily silent.
“Is this over?”
Many students from the High Tower Academy looked incredulously at the man on the battlefield, even Jack, who was studying in a corner, was surprised by the silence. He lifted his head, looking at the lone man standing under the starry sky.
“How did he do it?”
“Who is he?”
Innumerable curiosities and questions spread among the students. Although Darsi was known to be quite strong, he didn’t seem particularly distinctive, and his battle was rather unremarkable. Many people barely remembered him until today, when everyone realized what kind of monster the Bridge Academy had produced.
As a result, people had little interest in watching the next match, only noticing the red and white figures constantly crossing and colliding between the stone platform and the sky. The glimmers of water and the blazing red flames flickered in the darkness until finally, Buyoudao and Weilin stood on either side of the arena.
“I concede.”
Buyoudao casually tossed his sword into the air and then turned his back, letting the sword fall into its scabbard before jumping down from the high platform.
Thus, the final match arrived, with fifth-year student Weilin from Fortress Academy facing fourth-year student Darsi from Bridge Academy.
On one side was Weilin in a black and red dress, wielding an inscribed longsword that emitted a faint red glow in the night, the color flickering like flames.
On the other side was Darsi in steel armor, whose heavy clanking could be heard as he walked onto the stage, sounding like a beast’s low growl in the darkness.
Under the bright moon and starlight, the final match for the ‘Crown of Crowns’ began.
