Chapter 274 – Great Competition at the Academy (Part Three)
André waved his multi-jointed sword in the air, releasing an electric spark that crackled loudly. If one were close enough, they could even smell a burnt odor as it struck Nana and the sheep beneath her.
Since Nana was伏在绵羊身上, the parts of her body that received the blow were her shoulders and back. As the electric spark traveled through her, she cried out in pain. However, the sheep under her suddenly erupted with astonishing strength, its hooves striking the ground and creating a small crater as it fiercely charged toward André.
In that instant, André felt as though the space around him had distorted, like it had been briefly compressed and then suddenly expanded. Before he could dodge, the sheep had already collided with him.
The sheep leaped into the air, its curved horns hard as iron, slightly lowered, as if they were heavy hammers. They smashed heavily onto André’s chest, shattering his armor, tearing his clothes, and breaking his ribs.
A surge of excruciating pain and suffocation overwhelmed him, and he spat out blood, scattering the magic power within him. His entire body was sent flying. He felt dizzy and disoriented as he landed on the ground. Before he could even get up, another impact came, and this happened three times in total. After being hit for the third time, André was sent flying off the arena, landing in the cold lake below. Only then did he regain consciousness, and the pain from his body began to spread.
“South Nana wins!”
The students in the audience seats had not yet reacted when they saw the match end abruptly.
“How amazing!”
“Is that really a sheep? It feels even stronger than a magic pig.”
“Perhaps it’s a special breed?”
Amidst the murmurs of the crowd, Nana gradually slowed down the sheep, then climbed down and waved toward her own academy. Cheers erupted.
Because the Central Academy had fewer people and some inherent disadvantages due to its initial sequence, it rarely achieved notable results in major competitions. This time, Nana had greatly brought honor to the academy, and perhaps more new students would want to join the Central Academy this year.
A student from the Northern High Tower Academy watched silently from a corner, only lifting his head when he heard his classmates’ exclamations and glancing at the arena before returning to studying and calculating the data on his intricate drawing.
He wanted to achieve good results in this year’s assessment and advance to the fourth year, so he could not afford to waste any moment.
“Jack, stop studying. You’ve been doing this all year. It’s rare that the school has designated holidays to relax. Your dedication makes me a bit uneasy.”
The other roommates advised.
“Mm,” Jack responded, but still didn’t stop writing.
“Never mind, let him be. He’ll exhaust himself like that eventually,” said another student from the back.
“What’s he pretending for? Working so hard as if we’re all lazy. Trying to show off how diligent he is,” a small voice echoed from the back of the classroom, though it was unclear who had spoken.
“Even though hard work is good, Jack seems obsessed,” some whispered in agreement from behind.
It was好不容易 a relaxing holiday, and everyone had gathered to watch the competition and shows. Yet, there was someone learning, which although was his freedom, it felt as if he were saying, “I’m working hard while you all are just playing.” This made some of the students watching the competition feel a bit uncomfortable. It was like when a game was fun, but suddenly became filled with guilt. It’s a holiday, yet you’re sneaking away to study. Should I continue my holiday or join in and keep pushing myself?
The classroom chatter hadn’t ceased, but a new match was starting. The Academy’s grand competition proceeded quickly, lasting only three minutes at the shortest and up to seven or eight minutes at the longest.
Often, one side would completely dominate, and truly balanced matches were rare.
As dusk fell, the competition neared its end.
“From High Tower Academy, third-year student Lingxin, versus from Fortress Academy, fifth-year student Verlin,” announced the host, followed by murmurs from the audience.
“I didn’t expect a third-year student to make it to the final eight this year.”
“Lingxin was called the fastest student among the Snowflower Seven Kingdoms last year. They say that speed is the key to victory, and that must be what they mean.”
“I wonder if this ‘West’s Swift God’ can turn the tide against the current strongest student of Fortress Academy.”
“It’s tough. Verlin advanced to Sequence 6 last year, while Lingxin has only recently advanced to Sequence 6 and is still unstable. She might not fare well this time, but next year could see Lingxin’s performance improve.”
“Pity that Verlin will graduate this year. This match is likely their first and last confrontation.”
“Alright, no more talking, the match is about to begin.”
The young lady, whom she had met several times in Hope Lane, reappeared in Lolan’s field of vision. She was still dressed very lightly, with a wrap top barely covering her chest and a purple skirt, holding four copper rings in her hands, with tiny copper rings also adorning her wrists and ankles, as if she were here to dance.
However, based on previous battles, the spectators knew
So thought, that cool outfit indeed had extremely low defense, but it also made her movements incredibly flexible and agile.
Compared to Lingxin’s slender figure, Verlin was much more mature. She wore a dress interwoven with black and red, holding a finely patterned crimson longsword in her hand. The sword casually left streaks of red trails in the air as she swung it.
“The match begins!”
Both sides moved; purple and dark red instantly turned into afterimages, colliding fiercely on the battlefield. Some lower-sequence students couldn’t even see what was happening. All they saw were sparks of metal clashing across the arena, occasionally catching glimpses of red and purple, only to disappear upon closer inspection.
Lohil sat in the audience, watching the rapid duel below. Her eyes flickered with the images before her, unable to help but immerse herself in such intense combat.
Lingxin and Verlin each excelled in speed, both being agile opponents, though their strengths differed slightly. Lingxin was more balanced and nimble, using her flexibility to dodge Verlin’s attacks with some astonishing maneuvers.
Verlin, on the other hand, practiced under a certain rank within the Demon Sequence. She could briefly turn her body into red light for movement, surpassing Lingxin in sheer speed. However, her flight and movement were mostly linear, lacking Lingxin’s agility, which put her at a disadvantage in close combat.
On the battlefield, Lingxin’s circular rings clashed repeatedly with Verlin’s longsword. Though weaker in strength, the unpredictable trajectories of the rings left Verlin struggling to cope.
In Lohil’s observation, Lingxin swung the ring again, hitting Verlin’s longsword amidst the afterimages. The sword pierced through part of the ring and got caught inside. The ring vibrated rapidly, its force and purple electricity causing Verlin to feel numb and weak.
She had no choice but to pull her sword out of the ring. This should have been an extremely simple move, perhaps taking less than 0.1 seconds. Yet, between these two lightning-fast individuals, it became a significant vulnerability.
Lingxin immediately turned to Verlin’s left side, her other hand’s ring slicing towards Verlin’s back. Electricity spiraled like a fiery wheel, tearing through the black fabric and drawing blood, the acrid smell filling the air.
