Chapter 273: Great Academy Competition (Part Two)
The golden torrent of magic converged from behind, spiraling around the ancient bronze wand of Phelys, before shooting out with great force. The powerful impact sent Aihua flying, causing her to somersault several times in mid-air before landing and sliding a short distance before finally stopping.
Although this hastily released magic torrent had decent impact, its destructive power was not strong. Aihua rubbed her slightly pained chest and acted again.
After sending Aihua flying, Phelys did not continue using that skill; instead, he pulled out the arrows on his body. With a flow of white light, a cool sensation spread over the wound, stopping the bleeding and quickly healing it.
Facing the re-closed golden barrier, Aihua did not charge forward again. Doing so would merely repeat the previous situation. She stood at a distance, no longer moving, and solemnly picked up a red-green arrow, placing it on her斩弓 (Zhan Gong – presumably a type of bow).
As she stabilized herself, emerald green magic swirled like a whirlwind toward the arrow in her hand, lifting the strands of hair by her ear and her red cloak behind her.
The two circular wrist guards on Aihua’s wrists emitted a faint glow. Due to the posture of holding the arrow, the guards were placed front and back, forming a field that encased the arrow perfectly.
Emerald green magic continuously poured into the arrow, causing the patterns on the arrow to light up one by one, as if flames were radiating from within. The red arrow tightly held by Aihua trembled constantly within the field, like a beast about to break free.
Facing this terrifying formation, Phelys naturally would not sit idly by. Layers of light screens began to appear in front of him, with golden feather-like patterns continuously appearing on the barrier. Then, golden threads spread like bones, reinforcing the barrier continuously.
In the stands, Lohil sat next to Florasia. They were seated in the last row, the highest section of the stands. Because they were far from the arena, most students could not see clearly, so it was relatively quiet and sparsely populated.
“Lohil, who do you think will win?” Florasia turned her head and looked at the silver-haired girl beside her, smiling as she asked. Even though it was winter, her attire was still similar to summer, wearing a light silk dress that revealed a blue pendant around her neck.
“I don’t know. Perhaps Phelys has a greater chance of winning.”
Lolan Hill shook her head. She didn’t particularly enjoy betting, not until the very end.
In a moment, no one could make a hasty judgment.
“Are you so confident in that youth? Even I cannot casually block Ai Hua’s arrow with just a few barriers.”
“Mmm.” Looking at the scene, for some reason, Lohil’s lips curled up slightly with a smile.
“Piercing Red Vine!”
Ai Hua shouted lightly. The arrow shot like a meteor through the arena, like a red beam of light flashing, piercing through all the barriers and striking the youth behind the light screen.
Ai Hua, somewhat drained, stood on the field, gazing at the shattered light screen.
“Did we win?” Before she could finish her sentence, a golden flood surged into her vision. Due to her weakened state, Ai Hua couldn’t dodge in time and was swept over a hundred meters along the ground by this flood, then fell off the stone platform, plummeting from the sky into the still moon lake below.
The judge’s voice also rang out at this moment: “Ferri won.”
For now, let’s not worry about Ai Hua who fell into the lake; there were teachers and personnel waiting below to rescue her. The audience erupted into a round of enthusiastic applause.
Indeed, Ai Hua’s arrow could not be stopped by Ferri’s barrier. But if she missed, everything would be meaningless.
At the last moment, Ferri tilted his light screen, causing Ai Hua to misjudge and allowing him to slowly sidestep a few steps, thereby avoiding the arrow.
“Lohil~” Florasia stretched out her hands, trying to tickle the young lady’s waist.
“Haha, stop it.” Lolan Hill laughed, holding Florasia’s hand.
“You saw it coming early, didn’t you?” Florasia looked at her friend, feeling that she had become more mischievous than before.
When they first met Lohil, she gave off the impression of a well-behaved child, though she wasn’t talkative, she was very serious about everything and endearing. Now, she seemed much more cheerful and lively, as if she had grown significantly within a short period.
“No, I just thought Ferri must have a backup plan. Otherwise, he wouldn’t be so composed. Besides, he changed the light screen rather late, and I didn’t foresee it ahead of time,” Lohil explained. Then Florasia mentioned continuing their bet in the next match.
—
“Nana from the Central School Building’s third-year class will face Andrei from Bridge Pier Academy’s third-year class.”
Following the judge’s command, two students slowly rose from the lift platform.
Andrei was a young man wielding an unusual sword. He wore tight-fitting
Leather armor covered her body, with only a few matte-finished pieces of armor on her shoulders, wrists, waist, knees, and left chest. Her figure was lithe and efficient as she walked steadily onto the arena.
On the other side of the stage appeared an opponent who was less formally dressed. Although she wore well-fitted breastplate armor that covered most of her upper body, if not for the short cloak behind her, her attire would resemble that of a farm girl. What was even more surprising was the sheep she led by her side.
The sheep was quite large, about two meters long, with thick fur all over its body. It looked endearing and cute, making bleating sounds as it was led onto the stage.
As students of the Central School Building, many of them were skilled at controlling Demonic Beasts. Due to their class, they were allowed to bring one Demonic Beast companion onto the stage for combat, but the sequence of the Demonic Beast could not exceed their own, and it also had to be fully tamed.
“Battle begins!”
Nana crouched down, stroking the sheep beside her, whispering something softly into its ear. Andre watched this scene, his eyes twitching slightly, then he charged forward with his whip-like long sword.
The sword was segmented, each segment having protruding spikes, and when swung, it moved like a venomous snake. Perhaps there was even poison smeared on the blades.
“Come on, Dada. Today is the day we eat star oranges. The outcome depends on this battle,” Nana said, mounting the large sheep’s saddle, gripping the reins tightly, and leaning close to whisper into the sheep’s ear.
“Baa~~~”
Seeing Andre charging towards them, Nana squeezed the sheep tightly between her legs, burying them deep into the thick fur, then she gripped the reins and urged the sheep to run.
Clop, clop, clop.
The sheep’s hooves moved at a steady pace across the stone arena. Due to the thick fur, its four legs were not very noticeable, but the jingle of the bell around its neck attracted the attention of countless spectators in the arena.
“Lohil, who do you think will win this time?” Florasia asked again. The afternoon sun illuminated her fair neck and cheek, and her azure eyes curiously looked at her friend.
“It must be…”
Before Lohil could finish her sentence, a loud explosion echoed across the arena.
