Chapter 27

“Chapter 27: Roulette Game”

Lynn reached the door of the containment room at the end of the hallway, just as Rhine had told him.

It seemed this place hadn’t seen visitors for a long while, with plenty of dust collecting on the doorknob.

It wasn’t hard to figure out why.

If it weren’t for the extreme danger and uncontrollability, there’d be no reason to stash it away in such a corner.

Lynn didn’t hesitate and pushed the door open.

In the next moment, the scene within the containment room unfolded before him.

Lynn was left speechless.

Maybe because the contained object was quite small, the entire room was only about a dozen square meters, making it feel pretty cramped.

Even so, there was a table inside the already narrow room.

On the table lay an Ancient Wooden Box, palm-sized and quietly resting there, its rough surface engraved with strange patterns, and upon closer inspection, there were even some mottled bloodstains.

Of course, that wasn’t the main focus.

What really threw Lynn off was the “thing” sitting across the table.

Yes, he had to call it a “thing.”

Even though it had a human shape, from any angle, it could only be considered a doll.

Or rather, a half-flesh, half-doll creature.

It certainly still retained some human traits.

For instance, it breathed.

But apart from that, every joint of its was clearly transformed into a puppet’s, as if assembled from parts, giving it a bizarre flavor.

Staring at this eerie doll calmly sitting on a high chair, Lynn wanted to roll his eyes.

Are you going to play a game with me too?

While he mused internally, he casually closed the door behind him.

Bang!

The entire containment room shook.

It seemed the sound had awakened the doll, and moments later, Lynn heard a “clack clack” noise from the high chair.

Under his gaze, the somewhat dusty doll appeared to be pulled by some invisible thread.

Then, it slowly sat up from the chair.

The doll opened its eyes and looked over at Lynn, its wooden chin slowly parting.

“Oh, it has been a while since anyone came here.” It spoke in a somewhat eerie voice, “I didn’t expect that at this point, a fool would still come knocking.”

“From you, I seem to smell a hint of the ‘Prisoner of Fate.’ You’re a Transcendent of the ‘Art of Deception’ faith?”

Art of Deception?

Lynn recalled the Liars’ Devourer ability he had drawn in the underground lab that night.

The symbol representing this ability appeared to be a half-crying, half-laughing jester.

Could this be the emblem of the ‘Art of Deception’ faith?

Lynn pondered.

But on the surface, he still played dumb: “No, you’ve got the wrong person.”

After all, from the tone of this thing, it seemed like it wasn’t fond of the Transcendents of this faith.

“Not the best. Sit down.”

The doll gestured awkwardly towards the chair opposite it.

Lynn approached, pulled out the chair, and sat down.

In an instant, an invisible force pressed down on his shoulders from above.

It wasn’t heavy, but it suddenly denied Lynn the ability to leave the chair.

He tried to struggle a bit, but found it pointless, so he resigned himself to lying back in the chair.

At the same time, he secretly attempted to activate the Liars’ Devourer.

As expected, he was also restrained by an unseen force. “The moment you stepped through the door, the bet had already begun, and there’s no way to escape before it ends.”

The doll twisted its stiff neck.

Hearing this, Lynn asked with confusion, “What bet?”

“Ignorance breeds fearlessness.” Although it was a doll, a sarcastic expression appeared on its face, “Didn’t they tell you anything about the ‘Deadly Magic Doll’ before you came in?”

While speaking, the doll pulled out a revolver from behind it.

Under Lynn’s watch, it opened the chamber and spilled out six shiny yellow bullets, clattering across the table.

The doll shot him a malicious glare.

Seeing this, Lynn instinctively frowned, “You want to play Roulette with me?”

This was a game favorite in some underground casinos to lure in customers.

Extremely bloody, incredibly thrilling.

In just a few minutes, one could experience a fall from paradise to hell, making adrenaline spike.

Under normal circumstances, Roulette only required one bullet.

Before each shot, the gambler could either choose to shoot right at their temple or opt to spin the chamber again before shooting.

As for more bullets, that was for the high-stakes players.

After all, this wasn’t just a game of pure luck; it involved probability issues.

If done correctly, one could increase their chances of survival.

Seeing Lynn’s apprehensive expression, the doll seemed to gain some twisted pleasure from it, cackling horrifically.

“You shoot one, I shoot one; unless one gets their head blown off, there’s no way to end this bet.” The doll’s fingertips toyed with the bullets on the table, looking at him with a strange gaze, “So, how many bullets do you want to choose?”

Lynn’s expression grew serious: “Uh, let me ask first, who shoots first?”

The doll said ominously, “As the master of the bet, naturally, I go first.”

Upon hearing this, Lynn seemingly let out a sigh of relief: “You should’ve said so, then I’ll pick six bullets.”

“Okay, hmm?”

The doll momentarily dazed, was about to grab the bullets when it suddenly realized something.

It shot a fierce glare at Lynn: “Kid, this isn’t funny!”

“If you can’t handle the heat, then don’t play.” Lynn shrugged.

Seeing this, the doll became even angrier: “Now I’m convinced, you must be garbage of the ‘Art of Deception’ faith, even your disgusting ways mirror theirs!”

So it stopped asking Lynn’s choice and snatched up two bullets, loading them into the chamber.

“Bang!”

With a spin, the doll forcefully clicked the chamber shut.

Under Lynn’s gaze, it picked up the gun and slowly pressed it against its own temple.

“Click!”

With the hammer pulled, a crisp sound echoed throughout the cramped containment room.

The doll emerged unscathed.

“Looks like my luck is still good… your turn!”

It placed the revolver on the table, slowly pushing it across to Lynn.

Looking at the gun on the table, Lynn fell into rare silence.

Seeing this, the doll spat sarcastically, “Even if you want to stall, it doesn’t matter. After all, I don’t need to eat; I can wait a thousand years, but you can’t.”

“Looks like you don’t have the guts to pull the trigger?”

“That aligns with my understanding of the ‘Art of Deception’ faith—just a bunch of cowardly mice, living twisted lives in the shadows.”

“Ha ha ha ha!”
