Chapter 265 – I Feel Like an Outsider

Chapter 265 – I Feel Like an Outsider

Telling ghost stories wasn’t a new skill for Mei Fang. Actually, when he played with You Xi and Yuan as kids, he often told them ghost stories.

Scaring girls made Mei Fang feel accomplished—back then, whenever Yuan or You Xi got scared, they would rush to him.

But times have changed. While Yuan might still be as timid as before, You Xi has changed a lot. It’s not easy to scare her anymore—

In fact, storytelling relies heavily on the storyteller’s ability to create atmosphere. Without proper emphasis and control of the mood, even the funniest story can become dull. A common ghost story, under the hands of a master storyteller, could terrify others into a panic.

Mei Fang was always good at setting the mood. Before starting his story, he would pull the curtains tight, turn off all the lights, and cover himself with the blanket. Today, the two girls had their blankets folded over them. Yuan and You Xi were whispering and scheming beside him, probably planning how to mock his ghost stories later.

Then Mei Fang turned on his phone’s flashlight. “So…I…am…going…to…start…now.”

Yuan, seeing Mei Fang’s face illuminated from below by the flashlight, began to feel afraid and almost screamed, covering her mouth. You Xi watched Mei Fang with great interest.

“The ghost story I’m about to tell is called ‘The Window.'”

“Is there a ghost in the window?”

“Don’t interrupt.”

Mei Fang couldn’t let Yuan interrupt him. He continued coughing and speaking:

“There was once a female reporter who planned to go to the countryside for some fieldwork. Because there weren’t many places to stay in the countryside, she stayed in an old inn one night—”

Yuan, listening to Mei Fang, bit her fingernails and subconsciously hugged You Xi tighter.

“After entering the room, the lighting was dim…almost nothing could be seen…but there was a painting opposite the bed. It depicted a man.”

“This man had distinct features, lifelike, especially his eyes.”

“Isn’t this painting strange…do the eyes move?”

“When she slept at night, because of the painting, she felt someone was watching her in the darkness, so she decided not to look at the painting.”

“But the next morning, when the female reporter looked at the painting again, she couldn’t help but gasp.”

Mei Fang deliberately leaned towards Yuan and You Xi.

“In fact, it wasn’t a painting at all…it was…a window!”

“Ahh!”

Mei Fang’s sudden revelation startled Yuan, nearly causing her to slap him, but he easily dodged it.

“So, is that a ghost?”

Yuan, with strong visual imagination, imagined the scene Mei Fang described and immediately closed her eyes.

You Xi, however, seemed uninterested. “Do you have any other ghost stories? This one is a bit boring.”

So Mei Fang, unwilling to give up, told Yuan and You Xi several short ghost stories he found online. By the end, Yuan was mostly covering her ears and hugging Mei Fang, while You Xi listened attentively but remained unscared.

When Mei Fang finished his stories, Yuan finally raised her head and asked, “Are the ghost stories over?”

“Mm…did you even listen at all?”

“I did! There was a person staring at you through the window.”

“That was the first story…”

“So, was that person a human or a ghost? Standing motionless at the window is really creepy.”

You Xi pointed at the curtains. “Look, there’s a shadow like a head in the curtains. Does it remind you of the ghost story we just heard?”

“Ahh, stop it You Xi! I won’t look!”

Mei Fang and You Xi enjoyed teasing Yuan, but after a while, they all decided to rest and sleep.

The playful Yuan, frightened by Mei Fang’s ghost stories, didn’t dare to sleep near the window and squeezed between Mei Fang and You Xi. She didn’t dare to stick her head out of the blanket, increasing her dependence on Mei Fang.

Now, Yuan was too scared by Mei Fang to do anything else. Her contact with Mei Fang also prevented You Xi from touching her. He could now comfortably hug Yuan and sleep.

She was soft and warm, trembling slightly like a little rabbit, making Mei Fang feel an infinite amount of affection.

Mei Fang comforted Yuan while humming softly. He thought everything would be fine tonight, but suddenly, someone in the dark grabbed his hand and gently sucked on it.

Mmm…

Taken by surprise, Mei Fang wanted to discuss astronomy, geography, and life philosophies with his brother, but his brother only wanted to raise his hand to speak.

When he raised his hand, it hit Yuan’s stomach, causing her to pause for a moment. After a brief hesitation, she pulled her hand back and peeked out of the blanket to look at Mei Fang.

“Mmm…”

“Gurgle…”

Mei Fang quickly withdrew his hand and turned his back to Yuan and You Xi.

“Are you okay, Fang?”

“Mm…I’m fine.”

Mei Fang sighed in relief. At this point, he couldn’t handle any more. Yuan was currently the best; You Xi was too scary.

He cleared his throat and asked, “Yuan, are you still scared of ghosts? Did we tell too many ghost stories today?”

“As a high school student, how could I possibly be truly scared of ghosts? This is all just for fun.”

Yuan kept prodding Mei Fang’s back. “If there’s a ghost here, it’s only a little pervert.”

“Alright, don’t tease me.”

Mei Fang grumbled, “It was You Xi who started it. If she hadn’t—”

“You Xi?”

Yuan was surprised. “Didn’t You Xi stay away from me all along? How could she—”

“?”

Mei Fang reached out to check on You Xi under the blanket but felt nothing. Then, Yuan grabbed his arm with a terrified expression and whispered,

“Fang, Fang, quickly turn around and see what’s behind you—”

Ah, trying to scare me with this? You’re still too young…

Mei Fang played along with the ghost game, expecting that You Xi would suddenly appear and make cute, scary sounds.

However, when Mei Fang turned around, he saw a silhouette of a head in the curtains illuminated by moonlight!

“Ahh, Mommy, Mommy!”

Taken aback, Mei Fang hugged Yuan tightly and shouted in her arms. Yuan hugged him back and said to You Xi, who had returned to bed from behind Mei Fang,

“Seems like we went too far…Fang seems really scared.”

You Xi lay provocatively on the side of the bed, poking Mei Fang’s waist while smiling at Yuan.

“He’s just pretending. He’s taking advantage of you right now.”

“Is that so, Fang?”

Yuan pinched Mei Fang’s cheek and mumbled, “You…weren’t really scared?”

“Huh? Of course not.”

Mei Fang nodded. “Such childish tricks wouldn’t scare me. I was just trying to take advantage of you and satisfy your desire to scare me.”

“Haha…seems like neither of us can scare each other anymore.”

Yuan scratched her head. “By the way, my acting was pretty good, right?”

“Indeed, it was very convincing…by the way, what’s that on the curtain?”

“It’s a mask. We bought it during Halloween when we went to Happy Valley. You forgot?”

“Oh, right…you still kept the mask.”

“Yeah…” Yuan scratched her head and thought, “Speaking of which, Fang’s performance of calling out ‘Mom’ was really impressive, just like the real thing.”

“Yuan’s acting has improved a lot.”

Listening to Yuan and Mei Fang compliment each other, You Xi couldn’t help but chuckle.

“What are you laughing at, You Xi?”

Jealous Mei Fang immediately corrected, “She must think we’re putting on a show.”

You Xi smiled slightly. “I hope not.”

Mei Fang and Yuan were instantly taken aback by You Xi’s words.

“You Xi is too self-centered!”

“Exactly!”

Mei Fang suggested, “Let’s play a trick on You Xi today!”

“Okay!”

Just as Yuan and Mei joined forces to push You Xi onto the bed, ready to tease her, the mask under the curtain suddenly fell off, and a fierce gust of wind battered the window outside. Yuan and Mei Fang were so frightened that they clung to each other in terror.

“Do you know, sometimes I feel like an outsider among the three of us.”

You Xi felt sad because of her mature and calm performance in the ghost game.

Ugh, writing ghost stories is much harder than I thought. Recently, I’ve been reading Sister KissPig’s books. I feel like I shouldn’t write about those things. Sweet, everyday moments are also interesting. I can’t always focus on kissing and intimacy.
