As the sweltering summer fades away, autumn has arrived.

United Academy generally enjoys warm weather, but surprisingly, it features distinct four seasons.

In some places, it gets ridiculously hot or cold. Thus, it snows in winter.

Typically, in areas with distinct seasons, beasts or insects tend to be relatively small. It’s a way to reduce size and enhance energy efficiency.

However, due to the magic power emanating from the Chaos Forest, that’s not the case here. Monsters, beasts, and insects are all large.

Anyway, with fall settling in, it’s time for the students to switch up their school uniforms and gradually change their daily routines.

“Sister.”

“Yeah?”

“Do you like winter, or do you like summer?”

Time flows, and we soon reach the final exam. The weather is changing from cool to chilly.

In the meantime, we’ve been studying theories or training, thoroughly preparing for the impending events.

All the demon’s magic circles have been removed, leaving us to wait for their ambush.

I needed to gather everyone to share some words soon.

‘It’s a bit of a bummer that it’s at Rod’s Residence.’

As I’ve mentioned before, it’s practically a meeting plaza by now.

Rod is not just any guy; he’s a Sword Saint and the principal, yet he comes and goes like it’s his own home, making me feel slightly guilty.

Rod seems indifferent to it, but even so, I can’t help but notice.

“I prefer winter.”

“Huh? But you’re from Tartar. You like winter still?”

“Just because I’m from Tartar doesn’t mean it doesn’t have winter. I’m used to the heat, but it doesn’t mean I like it.”

Kara responded to Luna’s question. Even in a desert, it can rain or even snow.

Moreover, the desert nights are ridiculously cold compared to the daytime. Deserts are some of the places with the greatest temperature variance.

“But it doesn’t snow. This is the first time I’ve seen snow since I came here.”

“You’re so innocent.”

“Is that a compliment or sarcasm?”

“Um… maybe both?”

Luna keeps chatting away even as fall approaches. She’s still the same.

But she’s a good kid, so there’s no way she’s being sarcastic. It just feels like she’s kind of teasing me.

Kara looked at Luna with suspicion, then turned away. Familiar faces are gathered here.

Luna, Kara, Eli, Grace, and lastly, Rod and me. However, Eli and Rod are currently absent.

The two are in the kitchen making some tea. They’ll soon return with a brew of bitter herbs.

“I like winter too. Summer is too hot and makes me sweat.”

“Oh. You mean down there, right?”

Kara pointed at her lower chest upon Grace’s statement. The area commonly referred to as the “lower chest.”

Grace nodded at the part Kara indicated.

“Yep. If you wear non-breathable clothes… it’s really uncomfortable. You have to manage it every single day.”

“I agree. I don’t mind sweating elsewhere, but here, it’s just annoying.”

It’s one of the dilemmas for those with larger chests. Just sitting still can lead to sweating.

Especially since both Grace and Kara are above average size, it’s probably even more irritating for them.

‘Elie must be worse off, right?’

Elie, being from another dimension, likely faces many inconveniences. It’s almost impossible for her to engage in combat.

While I was lost in thought, being a guy, I had nothing to add. However, one person stood out for being unusually quiet.

Luna, who would usually say something, was pretending she didn’t understand at all.

And Kara, sitting right next to her, wouldn’t let it slide.

“Don’t you get what we’re talking about, Luna? Right?”

“Um… no? I sweat too, you know?”

“Just as much as us?”

“Um… um…”

Luna surprisingly kept her mouth shut. That’s quite rare.

But she must know. This fight is undoubtedly one she’s losing.

The moment she looked at her own chest, sulking, it was obvious. I had nothing to say, so I kept quiet too.

“By the way, Sivar. Do you like summer or winter?”

Kara brightly asked me. I immediately responded.

“Summer.”

“Summer? Why?”

“Because in winter, there’s nothing to eat. I was starving.”

“Um… um…”

Kara’s expression solidified like stone at my response. I felt as if I unintentionally sent her into a spiral.

But I was just stating a fact. Summer has plenty of food, while winter is scarce.

Predators don’t come out in winter to prepare, and herbivores almost disappear.

That’s why during my first winter, I nearly starved to death. I survived by munching on some plants.

“How did you get through that? It must have been tough.”

“Mushrooms and bugs. Digging the ground yields big grubs.”

“Ugh…”

Perhaps it’s her trauma with bugs that made Grace scrunch her face and gag.

But really, nothing provides nutrition in winter quite like grubs. If all else fails, I could break into Porori’s territory and steal acorns.

I didn’t even get caught. Porori takes a brief winter nap, so sneaking in was doable.

You might wonder why not kill them? Back then, I was too weak for that kind of endeavor.

“I brought tea. I brewed some herbs to boost your stamina, so it should be good for your health.”

While everyone was chatting away, Eli returned with the tea. Rod was already holding a teacup.

I stared at the steaming cup, almost smelling the bitterness wafting up. Just looking at it made me taste the bitterness in my mouth.

“It’s not bitter; it’s sweet, so it should taste good.”

“Really?”

“Yep, really sweet.”

Noticing my uncertainty, Eli urged me to drink. I hesitated but finally took a sip.

It really was sweet. Typically, herbal teas are mostly bitter, but I have no idea what they put in this one.

“Wow, it really is sweet. What kind of herbs did you use?”

“Something great for stamina.”

“Um… um…”

“Just kidding.”

That didn’t sound like a joke to me. With a slightly flustered look, I glanced at the teacup.

The color of the tea was a deep purple, resembling the black raspberries I once had on Earth.

Black raspberries have a deeper flavor than blueberries. Plus, they’re a mix of sweet and bitter.

‘As long as it tastes good.’

It’s good for the body and tastes fine. There’s no reason not to drink it.

If it boosts my metabolism, I’ll drink it often. Perhaps Rod drinks it regularly too.

“Looks like everyone’s here. Let’s have a chat.”

With the setup complete, Rod sat next to me and initiated the conversation.

Although we usually gather here on weekends, it’s rare for us all to come together like this.

In this case, everyone gathered because Rod called upon us directly. Thus, many faces wore puzzled expressions.

“The reason I called you all here may be a little, no, very sensitive. It’s also because I trust you all.”

“Is it a serious topic?”

Grace asked, to which Rod grimly nodded.

With that solemn nod, everyone adopted an attentive posture.

I had a hunch. Rod was likely about to discuss the upcoming situation.

The people here often stick together, so they would likely remain trustworthy.

“It’s indeed serious. It’s about my health.”

“Health? Oh, now that you mention it…”

“There have been rumors about your health not being great, Principal.”

Rod has generally had poor health since the first semester.

He often coughs, and you can feel his strength waning.

Moreover, being of a notably older age, he might be often treated as someone with minor ailments.

“Right. But there’s someone who’s been intentionally harming my health.”

“What?”

“What does that mean? Someone’s targeting the principal?”

As expected, the anticipated reactions surfaced. Luna and Eli seemed to already know of this issue, so their expressions were calm.

Rod proceeded to explain that a well-acquainted doctor had deliberately prescribed dangerous herbs.

Thanks to me and Porori, he realized too late about the herbs being dangerous, and Eli’s healing has improved his condition.

“Who on earth would do such a thing? From the Eastern Empire, perhaps?”

“No, it’s not a political issue. It’s something far more dangerous.”

“More dangerous, you say…”

“Demon.”

Rod mentioned demons. At that, everyone except Luna and me widened their eyes in shock.

Eli was only aware of the poison aspect, not knowing of the demon connection.

‘Did Luna tell them?’

Once demons were mentioned, all gazes came instinctively to me, indicating they likely had an inkling.

It’s not suspicion. Given my origins, those looks are unavoidable.

“The demon hired the doctor and has been gradually poisoning me. The intent is to weaken me out of the picture in the future.”

“Weakened? Even if you were gone, the demons wouldn’t be able to do anything, right?”

Kara posed a rational thought. There’s no chance a demon could just barge into the academy.

That’s natural, considering the monument is firmly standing. Unless they ‘broke’ it, an invasion is impossible.

Rod seemed to agree and spoke a bit carefully.

“I feel the same. However, there are signs that demons might attack the academy soon. Sivar and Luna have found some evidence of this.”

“Evidence…?”

“Luna.”

“Yes.”

At Rod’s instruction, Luna got up and headed somewhere.

She returned with various items, starting with small statues and moving on to stock boards.

Originally, she planned to bring the Hero’s Eye too, but she decided to hold off for now due to potential controversy.

“These are the items we found. Grace, being a mage, might sense something from them.”

“I can certainly sense some magic. However, it’s so faint that it feels almost meaningless…”

“There’s a circle drawn by the demon etched here. It’s just that the circle is now damaged.”

Rod explained each situation, taking quite a while since it was hard to believe.

But surprisingly, everyone accepted the situation with ease, thanks in part to me.

“That makes sense… since Sivar is here too.”

“Wait a minute. You shouldn’t mention that yet…”

“I heard about it from Rize. You don’t need to worry.”

Just as Luna seemed flustered, Rod spoke up. Rize must have told her beforehand.

However, my involvement with the demons was entirely unrelated. The attack was something the demons had been slowly preparing, while I only just enrolled recently.

Yet, it’s still not a situation where I can breathe easy. The demons could very well prioritize targeting me before launching an assault.

“It might be hard to believe, but all of this is true. The demons’ invasion will occur soon.”

“So… what should we do? Should we notify the academy in advance…?”

“No. If we do that, the demons might just hide.”

Rod shook his head in denial. As painful as it is, it’s better that the academy remains unaware.

If the demons learn of our knowledge, they’ll all hide away. Rod might even be targeted after he dies naturally.

Demons may not have lives, but that also means they have eternal lifespans. It’s paradoxical, but it works similarly to undead.

“What I’ve told you all is genuine truth. I hope you remember that I have no reason to lie.”

“So… what should we do?”

“From the circumstances, it seems that the demons are likely to attack at year-end. According to Sivar, there have been sightings of demons in the forest.”

Rod brought up the hunter. It was an incident where Porori almost faced death.

Fortunately, he has regained his health now, and only returning to the woods remains. But for now, we decided to keep him at the academy.

When the demons do attack at year-end, Porori will turn out to be a significant asset. It’s a bit comical that a squirrel would be considered a vital strength.

“In that regard, I’ll help you prepare until then. You can think of it as special training.”

“Special training?”

“Exactly. I’ll pass on as much knowledge as I can. Although Grace’s job might make it tougher for her, I can teach her how to improve her magic efficiency.”

“That’s enough. But what about the others…?”

“Better to subtly communicate this to someone you trust. Just mentioned that you feel something might happen at year-end.”

Basically, it means to give a warning to friends alone. It’s unlikely they’d believe it if said outright.

Since most of them are pretty tight-lipped, it should be fine to inform them.

“Well, we can start right away from today. Kara, you should start.”

“Yes. Got it.”

With all the discussions winding down, Kara followed Rod.

Grace and Eli also decided to follow them and wait.

Naturally, that left Luna and me. Before she could get up, I quietly asked her.

“Luna.”

“Yeah?”

“Where’s the Eye of the Hero?”

I entrusted the Eye of the Hero to Luna. Since Grace and I are living together, it’s best to leave it with her.

At this, Luna seemed to have an epiphany and exclaimed, “Oh, that thing? It’s…”

“Um…”

“Um…”

Oh no. Why is she being so quiet?

“Um… where did I put it again?”

“Hey.”

This girl.
