Chapter 255: The Lonely Ghost

As the flames slowly weakened, Lolan Hill stepped onto the charred land, then approached the enormous crater in the Earth. Threads of light floated up, and the remaining magic slowly converged, crystallizing into a Primordial Gem (rarity: Rare Pearl grade).

Due to the final explosion wasting much of the magic, the gem’s final rating settled at the Pearl grade.

The splendid gem displayed a warm tangerine yellow hue, with what appeared to be a small brown-furred bear sleeping inside. After surpassing Sequence 5, souls would fuse with the Extraordinary Core, and after Sequence 7, they would become more resilient, less likely to be easily shattered.

Though this giant bear had died, most of its soul remained, gathered within this Extraordinary Gem.

“This fellow has become quite cute now.”

Lolan Hill gently tapped the tangerine gem. Inside the crystal-clear gem, the little bear seemed to wake up, slowly opening its black eyes, looking around dazedly. It then lifted its head, seeing Lolan Hill’s face, shrinking back in fear, trying to hide but could only spin slowly within the gem.

Then, a soft yet slightly cool figure slowly pressed against her back.

“Is this little bear the one from before?” The voice carried a hint of curiosity.

“Mm-hmm.”

Lolan Hill turned around, slightly moving away from Yixuegelin’s cold body. Not that she disliked it, but she was a bit cold-sensitive. Unlike living people, ghosts’ emotions were more direct and harder to conceal. Lolan Hill could easily sense the simple and pure thoughts of this ghost lady, which was why she liked her.

Lolan Hill didn’t enjoy overly complicated interpersonal relationships; she preferred simpler, purer things. She handed the gem to the curious Yixuegelin, letting her examine it closely. Then, her body rose up, extinguishing the remaining fires in the Woodland, preventing them from spreading further.

The next afternoon, the sun slanted through the branches. By the edge of the fragmented flower field stood a gray tent. The Young Lady slept on a soft rabbit fur blanket, her body slightly rising and falling with regular breaths. As the sun neared setting, there was still no sign of her waking up.

A light blue figure…

The shadow sat alone on a crystal coffin in the midst of a sea of flowers, watching the sunset gradually sink toward the horizon. The sky was covered with purple-red clouds, casting a fiery glow over the treetops in the distance. The sun, now close to the horizon, could only be glimpsed through the sparse trunks of the trees, its light fragmented by the shadows that fell like a lattice.

In the evening breeze, wisps of smoke occasionally rose from the piles of burnt wood and ashes. Small animals, lured by the scent of roasting food, returned to search for roasted pine seeds and fruits among the woods, contentedly gnawing away at their finds.

“Little Lolan still hasn’t woken up.”

The somewhat bored ghost lady leaped down from the coffin, her form slowly drifting toward a small gray tent.

Her ethereal body passed through the thick canvas, entering the interior. She watched the sleeping white-dressed maiden, no longer moving, but quietly sitting in one corner of the tent, gazing at the resting silver-haired girl.

Silver hair fell softly onto her snow-white neck, her fair collarbones peeking out from beneath her nightgown. With each breath, the blanket on her slight frame gently rose and fell. Her exquisite, fair face paired with her light pink lips, reminiscent of cherry blossoms, gave her an air of youthful innocence, though the soft lines of her brow softened this impression slightly, making her appear like a fruit both tart and sweet, pure yet mysteriously alluring.

As night fully descended, the faint moonlight filtered through the gaps in the tent, and Lolan希尔 finally opened her eyes slowly.

!

There was someone sitting beside the bed!

The sight startled Lolan希尔, who had been living alone recently, but after a few seconds of mental recalibration, she quickly relaxed.

“It’s Yixue,” the girl slowly put down the blanket, covering her mouth as she stifled a small yawn.

“Good evening, Yixue葛琳.” Though the Elvish language was a bit awkward, Lolan希尔, with her good grades, pronounced it accurately.

“Good evening, Little Lolan, here~”

After saying this, the elf lady extended her hand, offering the orange-colored gemstone. Within it, the little bear obediently lay on the ground, looking timidly at the two girls.

Lolan希尔, somewhat curious, took it and examined the little bear. At that moment, it was quite obedient; Lolan希尔 made it turn in circles, and it did so; she asked it to roll over, and it complied.

“How did you do this?”

“Just talk to it nicely; since I’m also a ghost, communication is quite easy.”

“Really?” Lolan Hill found it hard to believe. According to Trinasha’s records, most ghosts were quite emotional, with rational ones being rare, and those transformed from demonic beast souls were even more chaotic, possessing only a very basic intelligence.

“Yes, perhaps Little Lolan’s contribution was greater. During the process of reassembling its soul, you also purified and filtered out some extreme emotions, making it much more rational,” the ghost lady considered the reason as well. Although she lacked memories of her past growth, some of her knowledge seemed intact.

Is that possible? Lolan Hill was slightly surprised, then slowly handed over the gemstone to Yixuegelin.

“No need, Lolan should keep it. It has opposite properties to mine; staying together would probably be uncomfortable. If given to someone else, it might be helpful.” The princess of the ghosts politely declined and pulled Lolan Hill out of the tent.

In the moonlit clearing of the forest, one side was charred black, but the hillside on the other remained intact. The autumn night wind brought a chill as Ghost Yixuegelin, holding Lolan Hill’s hand, walked through the waist-high grass sea towards the hill.

“What kind of flowers does Lolan like?” asked Yixuegelin, who was walking ahead.

“I don’t have any particular preference,” the young lady recalled the flowers she had seen.

“There are many I like, such as peach blossoms in spring, various colored roses, small osmanthus flowers, white lilies like little lanterns, and orange marigolds. They are all beautiful, so it’s hard to say I only like one.”

“Haha, Little Lolan is truly fickle, wanting them all,” Yixuegelin said with a smile.

“But I am rather simple.”

Yixuegelin led Lolan Hill closer to the flower sea at the top of the hill, then picked a flawless ice chrysanthemum and placed it in Lolan Hill’s hair, securing it with a butterfly hair clip.

“Can I tell you a story?”

The ghost princess held Lolan Hill’s hand, and they sat on the hillside again, watching the moonlit flower sea gently sway in the breeze, as memories long buried slowly resurfaced.
