Chapter 25

Chapter 25 Polite Refusal

After a night of conversation, Tide’s curiosity was satisfied, but unfortunately, Lolan Hill was still not quite used to her straightforward personality.

Compared to that, the young lady was slower to warm up. It was difficult for her to suddenly become close with someone. In her memories, she preferred being alone at home rather than going out with a group of people. Whether it was reading, sleeping, or playing games, she felt more comfortable by herself.

Tide invited Lolan Hill to attend a gathering among witches. After much consideration, Lolan Hill politely declined Tide’s kind offer. While it might bring many opportunities and assistance, it would also strongly label her as a witch.

Trina Sha’s late-life records barely mentioned other witches; instead, they were mostly about the hardships and victories during the establishment and expansion of the Mercury Dynasty. This deeply impressed Lolan Hill.

Trina Sha had indeed pondered many issues and detailed the reasons and processes behind various laws.

Lolan Hill had a vague feeling that Trina Sha didn’t really like the identity of a witch, though she never said it outright. So, cautiously, Lolan Hill didn’t want to get entangled with such a powerful organization without fully understanding it.

She wanted to be herself—a young lady named Lolan Hill, rather than a strange yet powerful existence like a witch.

“Alright, since you don’t want to now, I won’t force you.”

Tide was a bit disappointed. She thought she could easily win over this lovely junior, but she found her to be quite decisive.

However, Trina Sha was once the person Tide respected the most. For her student, Lolan Hill, Tide still wanted to provide some protection and assistance.

“By the way, have you been feeling very tired lately?”

“Mmm, sometimes even after sleeping all day, I still feel like sleeping.” Lolan Hill recalled and confirmed it.

“That’s normal. After awakening, you need time to adapt. You might often fall into a deep sleep, which could last for days, or even a year.”

“No way, wouldn’t you starve if you slept for a year?”

“Not exactly. It’s just a state of pseudo-death. Plus, you’re not completely unconscious. You can wake up anytime, but when you do, you’ll still feel sleepy. You need to sleep enough to gradually return to normal.”

“When I first awakened, I slept intermittently at Trina Sha’s place for eight months before I gradually returned to normal.”

“Ugh, alright. Looks like we need to prepare for the long term. What’s the longest recorded period of sleep?”

“Well, the longest one I know is the Book Witch Night Mistress. She slept for two years before gradually returning to normal.”

“How long!”

“So for now, you shouldn’t go out. Stay here and rest well. This maple forest is quite safe unless discovered by other witches.”

“Mm-hm.”

Lolan Hill obediently followed the senior’s advice.

Then Tide took out a black candle.

“This is for you, it will make your life much easier.”

**Shadow Candle** (Perfect Coral Grade): The dark flame can transform into anything the user imagines, lasting for three days. The highest quality is Golden Grade. (The transformed item must be something the user understands.)

“Though it only lasts for three days, it’s still very useful.”

“No, thank you, Tide. I appreciate it.” Lolan Hill slightly bowed and politely refused the gift.

Gifts in life aren’t free. Accepting something valuable today means owing the person a favor, making it harder to refuse their requests in the future.

Some might think this is trivial, but people can gradually fall into trouble with such attitudes.

Seeing Lolan Hill’s seriousness, Tide felt a bit troubled but also admired her. Indeed, it’s no wonder Trina Sha’s student shares similar qualities.

“Hmm, then how about this? I really like the fabric you weave. You can use it to exchange for these two items.”

“But the value difference is too large.” Lolan Hill shook her head cutely, her clear eyes unshaken.

“You can give me a little more. I can trade it with other witches for something else. Actually, you don’t understand the situation. High-quality fabrics are rare, and witches, being women, love pretty clothes.”

“Alright, how much do you need?”

“Just five bolts.”

“Got it, I understand.”

Seeing the young lady agree, Tide was very happy.

“I’ll come back to see you in a while, little Lolan~”

After their conversation, Tide no longer disturbed the young lady’s life and summoned a unicorn carriage.

Two black unicorns stepped on the blue flames in the night, walking to the open ground outside the small house. The black-dressed girl boarded the luxurious carriage and turned back to bid farewell to Lolan Hill.

“See you next time, cute little Lolan~”

Tide gave Lolan Hill a nickname and then the unicorn pulled the carriage toward the sky, slowly disappearing under the moonlight.

Lolan Hill waved goodbye and stood for a moment, feeling the cool night wind before slowly returning to the warm little house.

She placed a small lantern made from amber fruit on the desk and took out a slightly thick diary, recently bought through the rabbits.

A white quill dipped in black ink wrote on the light yellow pages.

In the quiet room, only the occasional sound of the pen scratching against paper could be heard. The orange-yellow light illuminated the young lady’s face, her pure blue transparent eyes reflecting the warm light, casting a faint shadow under the light.

The young lady didn’t write in her diary every day; she only did so when something happened or when she had certain thoughts.

She always found writing enjoyable. When complex thoughts were translated into actual words, the superficial and restless parts were filtered out.

Writing was also a form of reflection and summarization. It clearly showed the process of forming certain views or conclusions, avoiding biases and overly subjective thoughts.

Sometimes, fleeting feelings that crossed her mind, she would happily record them down.

In the tranquil night, with the gentle candlelight, she slowly wrote down her favorite words.

No matter how many times she did this, she never grew tired of it.

Please recommend.
