Chapter Thirty-Six: Peylo Ran Away
“I don’t feel well.”
“Hahaha!”
The giant Lamb laughed heartily as he stopped in front of me. His towering and robust figure was like a mountain, overshadowing my petite body. I could faintly smell the sweat on his body.
“Miss, during the last basic training class, there was another miss as delicate and pitiful as you. She lied to me, claiming she was having her period and feeling unwell, so she wanted to rest. Do you know how I treated her?”
“Cough…”
So someone had already done that?
I scratched my cheek uncomfortably.
“No, actually—”
But before I could finish, he interrupted, “I made her stand under the sun and swing a sword all afternoon until she collapsed from exhaustion. That’s the Royal Academy’s way of teaching.”
Lamb stretched out his calloused hand and gave my slender shoulder a heavy pat.
My body sank, and my eyebrows furrowed slightly.
…Why is this person just like Pagos? He hits too hard and hurts me.
Although I was a bit annoyed inside, he was still my teacher, and what he said was also right. Although I didn’t want to hear it, I couldn’t be disrespectful to him.
“Teacher…”
I looked up at him and blinked my eyes, gently waving my small hand by my face, signaling him to lean down and listen to me. I wanted to quietly tell him that it wasn’t that I didn’t want to attend class, but I had to investigate something important related to the heretics… Yes, that’s it.
Let him ask the headmaster.
I had even prepared my speech, but Lamb didn’t give me the chance to speak.
“I know what you’re going to say. Put away those weak excuses. You girls can’t bear a little hardship… Stomachache, wanting to leave my class? Fine!”
He turned around and shouted to the other students standing properly in the field, “Listen up, all of you! If you don’t want to take physical training, you can leave. It’s no problem! Although it’s a required course at the Royal Academy, I, Giant Lamb, never force anyone! I allow you to leave anytime, provided—”
At this point, he paused, his gaze sweeping over each student in the front row, none of whom dared to meet his eyes.
Seeming quite satisfied with this, he continued, “Provided that you make me believe you have the ability to protect yourselves. When encountering bandits or robbers, you should be able to easily subdue them instead of cowering in an alley, helpless against a few thugs! As long as you say you can do it! Good, step forward, pass my test, and I’ll consider your physical training course passed!”
“Anyone!”
The students exchanged glances, no one responding.
“Very good.” The giant Lamb was even more pleased, nodding repeatedly, “Since you understand that you’re weak, then get back to class and behave! Whatever I say, you do, no excuses! Understand?”
“Understood!”
This time, their response was clear and loud.
Giant Lamb turned back towards me, his two-meter-tall body slightly leaning down.
“Beautiful Miss, it seems you’re the only one here.”
He grinned widely, looking like a cat teasing a mouse. I weakly stepped back, holding my hands in front of my chest.
What does this big guy want to do…
“Miss, what’s your name?” he asked me.
“Peylo…”
“Good, Miss Peylo. I’m telling you, you’re no longer at the Royal Academy.”
…?
I tilted my head in confusion.
“You’ve left the safe and comfortable cage of the Royal Academy, now alone in some secluded alley or wilderness in the capital… however you want. There’s no arbitrator around, nor any guards. And now, I’m blocking your path, a bandit who wants to harm you… Come on, Miss, show me how you plan to leave.”
Hmm…
I widened my eyes, stuck my right index finger in my mouth, and bit my nails as I looked at him.
“Teacher…”
“What?”
I carefully chose my words, saying cautiously, “Isn’t this… not good?”
After understanding what he intended to do, I felt rather troubled.
I definitely would run. Wanting me to ride those…
The beast is an impossibility. I originally wanted to make up some excuse to get away with it, but now… What will he do if I run?
Although the hulking giant looks fierce, he seems to be a good teacher…
What should I do?
I’m a bit annoyed…
“Hmm, indeed it’s not easy.”
Of course, Giant Lamb had no idea what I was thinking. After hearing my words, he laughed even more heartily.
“Making a delicate young lady fight against an experienced warrior, thinking about it, I seem to be putting you in a difficult situation… ordinary thugs and robbers wouldn’t have my abilities.”
As he spoke, he placed his hands behind his back.
“How about this, I won’t attack you, I’ll just block your way with my body. If you can run out of my obstruction—no, thirty meters away from me—I won’t stop you, and let you leave my class, how about that?”
“Pfft—”
Someone couldn’t hold back their laughter, which acted like a fuse, causing the students to burst into loud laughter.
“Hahaha!”
“Teacher Lamb, please don’t bully our little sprite by the Lake of Ceylon, she has a bad temper!”
“Be careful, or your nose might suffer!”
“Ahaaaa—”
Hmm…
Hearing them say that, I felt a bit angry. I looked at the crowd with a stern face, but they laughed even more wildly, as if I were some interesting animal.
Though there was no malice, I disliked being treated this way…
“Who dares laugh! Come out if you dare!”
Giant Lamb shouted angrily, and the students immediately quieted down.
“I didn’t say I was going to skip class…” someone muttered.
I lifted my head to look at the enormous figure in front of me.
“Teacher, are you really going to do this?”
“Hurry up, don’t waste everyone’s time.”
“…you won’t go back on your word?”
Hearing my somewhat doubtful words, Lamb became impatient.
“When have I, Giant Lamb, ever gone back on my word?”
“Oh.”
“Peiluo, run quickly!”
It was unclear who started shouting, but soon the entire training ground was calling out my name.
“Peiluo!”
“Peiluo!”
The waves of sound grew higher and higher, mostly with a teasing tone. After a few calls, it changed to: “Peiluo, nose!”
“Peiluo, nose!”
“Well then, here I come.”
“Come on.” Giant Lamb bared his teeth in a menacing smile.
Slap.
I pushed off the ground with my feet, raising my right fist and leaping up.
Lamb seemed unprepared for me to choose to attack directly, raising his eyebrows in slight surprise, his eyes flashing with a sharp light. His massive body leaned to the right, trying to avoid my attack.
But… too slow.
Halfway through my punch, it turned into a knife hand strike aimed at Lamb’s thick neck. This quick change left him caught off guard; seeing he couldn’t dodge, he instinctively raised his arm to block.
He said he wouldn’t use both hands…
In the next moment, I sharply retracted my right fist, while my left hand, already poised in a V-shape, struck swiftly toward his eyes, stopping about a centimeter from them before turning to tap his forehead.
Bam.
“Ay—!”
Giant Lamb let out a wail as his head was pushed backward by my strike.
All of this happened in an instant. In my slow-motion-like vision, the students nearby still had their mouths wide open, their faces filled with excitement. I even saw Sarah’s small face, the worry in her expression seemingly still lingering.
Plop.
My feet landed, I turned around.
I took off running.
Whoosh—
A moment later, chaos erupted behind me.
“Teacher Lamb—!”
“Peiluo ran! She ran so fast!”
“Wow! Our little sprite by the Lake of Ceylon… actually defeated Giant Lamb! How did she do it?!”
“Did you see clearly…”
“It looked like poking… the eyes?”
“Uh… not the nose?”
“Wait, wait, stop—!!!”
Far away, I heard Lamb’s roar, but I ignored it.
After all, you said it yourself, keep your word…
I ran out of the training ground, through the winding path, and only stopped when I reached the library in front of the academy.
Actually, I didn’t escape class entirely because I was afraid of the unicorn beast… I had something to do at the library.
That’s it.
