Chapter 232 – The Key to Destiny
Nia watched the scene before her, only returning to her senses when she saw Lolan extract and condense the scattered magic power into a golden gem.
“Is this the end?”
She had expected a grand battle, one that would leave the earth scarred and wounded before it gradually came to a close. But in reality, the outcome was decided in an instant, far beyond her imagination.
If only I could be as powerful as Lolan, Nia thought silently, then looked enviously at the young girl.
“Nia, come over quickly,” the girl called from afar, waving her hand.
The horned girl hurried over, and suddenly, water appeared from the air, washing her hair and face clean, and rinsing the bloodstains off her clothes. Then Lolan took out a towel to dry Nia’s hair and face.
Seeing such wondrous abilities displayed so effortlessly, Nia no longer felt surprised. It seemed Lolan possessed such wonders, always capable of breaking some of your preconceived notions.
“In fact, I didn’t want to cause trouble, so I never told everyone that… actually, I know quite a lot.” After a moment of hesitation, Lolan decided to reveal part of the truth.
Firstly, Nia was indeed a good person, trustworthy, and secondly, it wasn’t right to keep things hidden forever. She was not good at keeping secrets; her sense of morality was too strong, which could be seen as a flaw.
Lolan told Nia that she could switch her Sequence at will, which was a kind of innate talent. Additionally, the space ring on her finger could store items, and usually, it was invisible and couldn’t even be felt unless touched.
This answered many questions Nia had held in her heart, looking at the familiar yet somewhat unfamiliar friend in front of her.
“What about your name and identity? You’re not really the young lady who fled from the East, are you?”
“I’m indeed from Clancia, but I’ve lost much of my memory. I lived in seclusion in the forest with my teacher until last year. As for my name, well, I took part of it, saying the full name would be troublesome.”
Lolan thought that if she were to say her true name, people might associate her with the great sage of Clancia. Was she the sage herself, or the sage’s daughter? Such information was too shocking, and she feared Nia would no longer be able to interact naturally with her after knowing.
“Lolan has many secrets,” Nia said, looking at the embarrassed black-haired girl, feeling a warm sensation in her heart.
Was it because of being trusted, or because of having such a friend, or because Lolan chose to no longer hide from her? Or perhaps simply because they became closer friends? She wasn’t entirely sure. She wasn’t an innocent young lady; everyone had little secrets, even herself. For a long time, she had felt bitter about some matters.
So, she stopped Lolan from continuing.
“Enough, Lolan, you don’t need to explain further. I’m not a big shot, there’s no need for such explanations. You’ve helped us all a lot, we have no right to blame you.”
“Everyone has a bit of privacy, don’t probe too directly. Leave some room for each other, life will be much happier.”
“This is what my mother taught me. Although she passed away years ago, these words stayed with me. Thanks to my mother, the others in the clan treated me well, even girls rarely bullied me.” Nia hugged Lolan.
“Many things hidden in your heart, unable to share with others, must be hard.”
This time, it was Lolan who felt moved.
She had always been alone. Even though there were many followers and admirers after her rebirth in this world, many of her thoughts and beliefs were difficult to share with others.
Pulman was somewhat of a half-way case. In the beginning, she hadn’t worried too much and directly introduced the concepts and ideas from another world to the youth.
Looking back now, it was very reckless. If not for Tides and other witches secretly protecting her, with Clancia’s current influence, she would have been found out as the young sage. Perhaps there would have been vengeful remnants from the West seeking her out.
Even so, the title of sage might have offended the sages of Emanas, who would certainly send people to investigate. Instead of comfortably studying history and knowledge at Emanas, she would have faced harsher scrutiny.
Living in a peaceful and highly ordered era, Lolan’s worldview clashed with the barbaric world of Ivar.
Many foolish customs and viewpoints were intolerable to her, like high-ranking Extraordinary Beings and nobles trampling on human lives, or orcs eating their own kind out of hunger, merchants ruthlessly exploiting the lower classes, or fabricating false names and justifications for personal power.
Though she had witnessed some dark sides of society in her previous life, she managed to avoid falling into them. After being reborn in the Ivar world, she maintained some pure ideals.
Often, people felt powerless and helpless against the injustices and darkness of the world, and could only accept them, eventually comforting themselves to live a mundane life.
But if you had a chance to change the world before you?
Initially, Lolan didn’t think much about it. Following the mindset from her previous life, she just wanted to live peacefully in this world.
But on that day, she saw many scenes in the Star Realm. The former youth had endured countless hardships, struggling at the brink of death, just to pave a path.
She couldn’t stand idly by, and inadvertently triggered her innate power. Miraculous starlight began to descend.
That day, a tiny seed was planted in her heart.
The world was not invincible.
Even insignificant mortals could achieve extraordinary feats.
Humans were small, born, growing, and dying in bed, but they were also mighty, unbeatable. They defied gods, destroyed everything, and permanently changed the world. Their stories became history and legends, passed down generation after generation.
When floods came, they carved rivers and canals. When the sun scorched the earth, they shot arrows at the sun. When the heavens were unjust, they rebelled, challenging the heavens.
Myths often tell such tales. Compared to kneeling and praying in certain stories, her memories of that nation believed more in their own hands. The founding of new nations was even more incredible than many novels, rising from the mud to shock the world.
Perhaps miracles have always existed, but people have gradually forgotten their appearance.
During her travels, Lolan saw many aspects of this world. The vast gap between nobles and commoners, how trade and craftsmanship operated, the past history and cultural changes, and the current ignorance and savagery of the grassland tribes.
Although she was gentle and understood many difficulties, it didn’t mean she fully accepted these things. She merely refrained from speaking due to her position. Occasionally, she felt lonely, and thus, she felt a faint warmth towards Nia’s understanding.
If she were just an ordinary person, it would be fine, living a peaceful life. But fate gave her a key to change the world. Her overly strong moral sense made it hard for her to stay in her little house, reading and resting by the fire as she used to.
The tide of the era surged forward. On a summer night, she explained things to the injured youth by the campfire. Perhaps, from that moment, she was inevitably drawn toward this future.
Using the key of fate, turning the switch of the world, bringing profound changes to this cruel yet beautiful world.
Although she was a miracle witch changing her destiny, she was still entangled by the threads of fate, walking the destined path.
