Chapter Twenty-Three: The Abyss Battle Part Five
Two full-force releases, hitting head-on with no reservations.
I believe that no matter how powerful or terrifying the monster might be, as long as it falls within the category of living beings, low temperatures will cause significant damage to it. Even if it possesses a physique as robust as that of a legendary dragon, once frozen, its body would become hard and brittle, losing its resilience. If hit by another fierce impact at this moment, it would shatter instantly.
When fighting against another creature from the Abyss, both sides would lose their most fearsome yet effective attack method, which is the devouring nature of the black smoke.
That thing is useless to all of us.
And my frost powers do not have many ways to quickly inflict effective damage on the monster. Frost mist works well on smaller monsters but struggles against a boss. The Abyss can swallow everything, including freezing air, just as I can consume fireballs. Even if I were to directly release the Frost World here, it wouldn’t have much effect on that creature in a short time.
Moreover, now that I’ve lost my weapon, relying solely on the hardness of ice spears is insufficient to pierce the opponent’s defense.
Unless I could unleash an enormous burst of energy, allowing no time for it to release enough black smoke to counteract it.
Or, wait until it exhausts its strength.
“Hah — Hah —”
The two attacks consumed a great deal of energy, causing my small chest to heave violently.
Black fog and ice crystals continued to dance before my eyes.
Is it dead?
Just as this thought emerged, a large hand suddenly stretched out in front of me, grabbing my delicate neck.
“AoAoAo!!!”
A furious roar echoed. The dog-faced figure, covered in icy blue smoke and more damaged armor, lifted me up through the residual black flames.
“Gag — Cough, cough…”
The feeling of being choked was extremely uncomfortable. I involuntarily extended my little tongue and kicked my legs wildly in the air.
Desperately wanting to release more freezing air, I was shocked to find that I couldn’t muster any strength.
Two seconds later, I couldn’t even cough anymore. The grip on my throat tightened, making it impossible for me to breathe.
Struggling with my last bit of strength, I condensed a sharp ice spear in my hand and stabbed the black, bony arm three times.
It barely pierced the skin, causing no pain or itch.
“Crack.”
The ice spear shattered. My hands fell limp, drool trailing down my chin, and my eyes started to roll back.
“Roar!!!”
The white giant’s roar, accompanied by gusts of wind, came from behind. Its massive claws swept towards the monster.
“Ao—”
The monster retreated sharply to avoid the fatal claw, then threw me high into the air like garbage, aiming me towards the white giant.
To it, the white giant posed a greater threat than I did.
“Whirl, whirl, whirl—”
The constant whooshing in my ears made it hard to distinguish whether it was the rush of air over my eardrums or the cape fluttering in the wind. Brief oxygen deprivation left my mind in a scattered state, only feeling my body abruptly leave the pull of gravity and soar upward. Then, the speed slowed, slowed… Finally, after a brief pause… it began to fall.
I need to do something.
This thought crossed my mind, but my limbs felt like they were made of mud, completely useless.
I kept falling.
“Bang!”
The third high-altitude fall caused my vision to go dark.
It took some time before I opened my eyes again.
Buzz—
The ringing in my ears combined with dizziness made me shake my head uncontrollably, finally regaining clarity.
“Ugh… Cough, cough… Phew.”
My mouth was filled with dust, and I spat out a mouthful of blood. My disheveled hair clung to my face, and I struggled to lift my hand to brush it away, feeling a sticky sensation. When I opened my palm, it was covered in blood.
I must have hit my head when I fell.
I trembled, trying to get up, but as soon as I moved, a sharp pain shot through my calf.
“Huff—huff—”
I lay on the ground, struggling to breathe.
This is truly miserable, I thought.
But… I must kill it here.
With great difficulty, I raised my head to see the distant battlefield where the monster and the white giant were engaged in a fierce melee. The immense force shook the ground around them, creating craters. In the air mixed with flying stones and black smoke, occasional flashes of scorching white light appeared.
The enormous white giant clearly had the upper hand in terms of strength, its claws tearing the heavens and earth apart. Compared to it, the monster was about the size of the white giant’s head, seemingly crushable with one step, yet it was incredibly agile, constantly diving from the sky to attack the white giant without engaging in prolonged combat, while continuously releasing thick black smoke.
Although the white giant seemed to have some resistance to it, prolonged exposure would still cause severe erosion, with large patches of white fur falling off, revealing烂尾
The monster raised its arms high above its head. The posture reminded me of an evil devotee offering a heart to a dark deity.
Black smoke from all directions began to converge towards its head. The black sun reappeared.
“Buzz… buzz… buzz…”
The Great White lifted its head and opened its mouth again.
“Boom—!!”
Scorching light burst forth.
At that same moment, the black sun exploded like fireworks, turning into countless smoke balls that shot towards the ground.
“Boom boom boom boom boom—”
The smoke balls collided with the ground, bursting into dazzling black flowers, giving birth to countless eerie figures.
“Ding—, clank—”
The small monsters, using blades as limbs, writhed their bodies and surged towards the Great White from all sides.
The monster twisted in mid-air, narrowly avoiding the beam of light shot by the Great White. It then summoned more small monsters to charge again, adding new wounds to the Great White’s body.
“Roar—!!”
The Great White angrily swung its massive claws, tearing off many monsters’ limbs with each strike, and crushing several monsters into ashes with each step. Yet, more monsters took advantage of the gaps in the attacks to get closer, overwhelming the Great White with sheer numbers.
I stared wide-eyed at the scene before me, where ants seemed to be challenging an elephant.
The Great White couldn’t fall; there was no chance left if it did.
I clenched my teeth, stretched out my right hand, and tightly gripped my fingers.
… The Frost World.
The air suddenly turned cold.
My body started to emit a thin mist.
In the next instant, everything within sight, whether plants, rocks, or the fierce monsters from just moments ago, were all enveloped by a fine layer of frost.
The world turned completely white.
As the temperature dropped further, ice crystals floating in the air increased, shimmering with a faint blue hue, scattered across this pure white world.
The entire process didn’t take more than five seconds.
The monsters surrounding the Great White suddenly became sluggish in their vicious attacks, their movements stiffening until they froze into glittering ice sculptures.
It worked.
“Huff… huff…”
The deep fatigue hit me, signaling my physical exhaustion. My eyelids were starting to droop.
“Roar—!!!”
The Great White shook off the ice fragments covering its body, walking out of the ice sculpture, exhaling large clouds of white mist.
Thank goodness, it’s okay.
I let out a sigh of relief.
This was a gamble, betting on whether the Great White could withstand the frost’s power. I had once accidentally attacked it with ice spears before, but it had no effect. So, I believed the Great White’s defensive capabilities would not be inferior to that monster’s.
I won the bet.
Next, if the Great White could hold off the monsters for a little longer, I would have the chance to use my last strength to turn the tide.
Unfortunately, plans don’t always go as intended.
“Abyssal Language: Slash.”
The sound of wind slicing through the air echoed again, and the black blade flew over the Great White’s head, straight toward me.
I desperately rolled aside. At this moment, my body felt numb, and the pain seemed to lessen.
Damn it, do they want to kill the weaker one first?
I looked up, and sure enough, the monster had abandoned the Great White and swiftly swooped toward me.
“Roar—”
The Great White tried to block the monster but couldn’t keep up with its speed, instantly being left behind.
I staggered to my feet, my black eyes fixed on it.
The monster spun in mid-air, revealing its sharp claws.
“Swoosh—”
But it missed.
I had already leaped into the air, grabbing the monster’s two horns with both hands, flipping and landing steadily on its back.
Got you again.
Frost mist rose at the moment of landing.
“Agh—!!!”
Countless tentacles immediately wrapped around me.
In the next moment, ice spears burst forth, freezing half of the monster’s body.
The monster’s figure paused abruptly in mid-air, its flight height plummeting, almost only able to hover low. It struggled continuously, trying to shake me off.
No way!
I gritted my teeth, holding onto the horns with all my might, fully activating the power of frost.
The monster’s struggles weakened, and the area covered by frost grew larger. The strong abyssal aura gradually faded, finally exhausting its strength.
Gradually, it could no longer release even a wisp of black smoke, and we began to descend together.
“Boom!”
Rocks and soil scattered with countless ice fragments.
At the moment of landing, half of the monster’s tentacles and its right arm shattered suddenly due to inertia, sliding forward for quite a distance before coming to a stop.
… Finally, it ended.
Sunlight broke through the clouds.
Blood dripped down my cheek, staining my dress bright red.
Where am I…? It seems like a village?
I looked around, but saw no sign of the Great White.
It really flew quite far.
I got off the monster’s body, limping forward two steps.
My leg gave way, and I nearly fell.
“Little Hill!!”
A pair of soft hands caught me.
… Who is it?
Lifting my dazed eyes, I saw a face contorted in despair.
“Aelia…”
