“The 7th Outsider, commonly known as ‘Black Goat,’ or perhaps ‘Goddess of Abundance.’ Could it truly be an enemy that cannot be defeated by human hands?”
“Even if we wanted to defeat it, there’s absolutely no way. The attacks from the Outsider easily hit us, but our attacks don’t even reach the Outsider.”
“I suspect this Outsider usually hides its true body in an 11-dimensional Klein space. It only projects itself into our 3D space when interfering here. Interference from higher dimensions to lower ones is quite natural, you see.”
“…Eleven dimensions? But as far as I know, even Great Mages can’t reach beyond six dimensions, right? If that’s the case, isn’t it impossible for us to attack the Outsider’s true form?”
“You’re not wrong. Clearly, we have no means to directly attack the Outsider. However, that doesn’t mean we can’t find a way to defeat it.”
“As always, we’ll find a way. That’s what we do.”
…
A living room so large and luxurious it made most noble houses look like modest cottages.
Inside, a certain lady was biting her lip tightly while watching a Recorded Artifact replaying “Knight Shin Chronicle.” Her hands trembled with frustration, yet her eyes never left the screen.
Her name was Evangelin von Thieria, a young lady of one of the Empire’s Four Great Dukehouses—the Thieria Ducal House—and also the same woman who caused a commotion at the “Knight Shin Chronicle” audition and was subsequently chased out by the Empress herself.
Now, Evangelin deeply regretted her actions during that audition.
Especially when she heard the voice of Liz, the girl who had taken the main role from her, it made her feel even worse.
“…Ugh, why did I act like that back then?”
Evangelin had always loved art-related genres and took pride in her singing voice, having studied opera since childhood. Yet, she found little interest in traditional theater or operas because they bored her.
That all changed when she discovered “The Mysterious Disappearance of Eli and Hammel,” quickly becoming a devoted fan.
Unlike boring operas, anime was exciting and showcased limitless imagination. When she learned that Serika, daughter of Duke Grinevalt, was voicing a character in the series, Evangelin thought she could do the same and confidently auditioned for “Knight Shin Chronicle.”
However…
“The lead role of Kai will go to Reizeira Mileiw. Congratulations!”
“R-really? Thank you so much!”
Evangelin couldn’t accept it. Objectively, her voice was far superior to Liz’s amateurish performance. Yet, Ragnar Terison, the creator of “Eli and Hammel,” rejected her without hesitation.
This angered her greatly. So much so, that in her rage, she resorted to tactics she normally despised, even involving the Empress herself:
“Your Highness…”
“Let’s continue this conversation elsewhere, shall we?”
She was promptly dismissed from the premises by the Empress.
Though Evangelin admitted her behavior warranted expulsion, she couldn’t forgive the decision to cast Liz—a clearly inferior talent—over her.
Then came another confrontation:
“There you go again, trying to run away.”
“Excuse me?”
“Using the excuse of searching for your sister, you’re attempting to flee once more. This is your chosen path. Take responsibility for it.”
“Linnea doesn’t understand anything! Finding my sister is as important as saving humanity!”
‘Damn it… she’s right.’
Despite her protests, deep down, Evangelin knew Liz’s voice fit the protagonist perfectly. From awkward auditions to now flawless performances, Liz had improved dramatically under Ragnar’s guidance.
Evangelin realized Ragnar must’ve seen everything from the start.
“If only I hadn’t insulted him… If only I’d humbly asked for any role…”
She regretted missing the chance to play key roles like Eilian or Chloe, especially knowing how rich their storylines were.
In episode 10, Eilian entered Kai’s room triumphantly after defeating an Outsider together:
“Tonight, you get the special privilege of sharing my room. It’s my reward for defeating the Outsider today.”
“W-what?”
“But just until here. Don’t cross this line—it’s the walls of Nineveh. Got it?”
Evangelin understood the hidden meaning: Eilian’s “line” would crumble the moment Kai approached her, referencing the legendary walls of Nineveh collapsing before the Knight King.
Such subtle hints made Evangelin appreciate Ragnar’s genius even more—and curse her own foolishness for losing the chance to work with him.
“I was such an idiot…”
Sera, her loyal maid and childhood friend, finally spoke up:
“It’s fortunate you’ve come to your senses, Miss Evangelin. Truly, you acted foolishly.”
“Sera…”
“Yes, you were foolish. But recognizing your mistakes and feeling remorse shows potential for improvement.”
“Still, wasn’t that a bit harsh?”
Evangelin glared slightly at Sera but said nothing further, acknowledging her friend’s honesty.
“Go apologize to the director later. Whether he forgives you or not, it’s the least you can do.”
“Yeah, I know…”
As they conversed, Evangelin noticed the show had ended.
“Hey, let’s watch the next episode later. Isn’t it episode 17 today?”
They turned their attention back to the television.
“Wait… huh?”
“Yes, Miss?”
“Isn’t Knight Shin supposed to be on humanity’s side?”
“Yes, according to the setting, Knight Shin is humanity’s creation.”
“And Outsiders are their enemies, right?”
“Yes.”
“Then why are two Knight Shins fighting each other?”
Mechanime cliché number two: Even allies fight sometimes.
