Chapter 223: The Jade Pendant
“Third Aunt, Seventh Uncle, Second Grandfather, why are you all panicking?”
Chen Ansheng spoke to reassure them: “It’s just a few bull demons, it’s nothing to worry about, everyone calm down.”
“Ansheng, you really don’t know the gravity of the situation. We can handle a couple of bull demons, but you don’t realize that Bull Demon Master has the strength above a celestial level nine. How can you contend with him!”
The village’s Second Grandfather pounded his chest in frustration.
At this moment, Chen Ahud ran over, hurriedly explaining: “Don’t be afraid, my younger brother Ansheng is not what he used to be. He’s not afraid even of true immortals, let alone that bull demon.”
“Ahud is back too.”
“Really, Ahud? Is what you’re saying true?”
“True immortal? Ahud, don’t be ridiculous. Ansheng has only been out for a little over a decade, how could he have the capability of a true immortal?”
In the minds of the villagers, to become a true immortal, one would need at least several thousand years of training in the Sacred Immortal Mountain.
And Chen Ansheng had just been out for a little over a decade; how could he possibly possess such abilities?
“I saw it with my own eyes. Uncles and Aunts, don’t worry, just leave everything to my younger brother Ansheng,” Chen Ahud said.
Everyone was still skeptical and wanted to ask more, but they saw Chen Ansheng wave his hand, and shimmering celestial crystals floated before them.
“Second Grandfather, these celestial crystals are a gift for everyone. You can divide them up as you see fit; I’ll head back to see Grandmother first.”
As his words fell, everyone saw a flash of white light, and Chen Ansheng had already disappeared.
When they turned back, a woman screamed, “Oh my, these… these must be several thousand celestial crystals! My goodness!”
The others were equally astonished upon seeing the celestial crystals.
“That boy Ansheng has struck it rich!”
“This kid is throwing out several thousand at once. My ancestors, I’ve never seen so many celestial crystals in my life.”
“Don’t move, everyone stay put. According to Ansheng’s instructions, let Second Grandfather distribute them.”
The village’s Second Uncle was so excited he almost fainted, trembling as tears welled in his old eyes: “Ansheng has really made it. Ahud, you said Ansheng isn’t afraid of true immortals? Is that true? Tell everyone what happened.”
“Okay, Second Grandfather.”
Chen Ahud’s expression was agitated as he stood in the crowd and began recounting the events of his previous wage claim.
…
In front of an old wooden house on the western side of the village.
“Ansheng! It’s Ansheng back!”
In front of the house was a woman about the same age as Chen Ansheng, hanging out clothes.
Seeing Chen Ansheng, she exclaimed in surprise.
“Sister Cuiyun, I’m really sorry to trouble you.”
Chen Ansheng quickly walked over, knowing that Sister Cuiyun was helping to care for his grandmother.
“Trouble? Not at all,” Chen Cuiyun said, feigning anger. “It’s really frustrating; you’ve been gone for over a decade without visiting our grandmother. Hurry and go inside.”
“Okay.”
Chen Ansheng grinned, just like the boy he once was.
“Ansheng, you’re back.”
“Mm, Grandmother.”
When the grandmother and grandson reunited, one was crying profusely while the other’s eyes turned red.
Chen Ansheng sat down by the bed, holding his grandmother’s wrinkled hand, momentarily choked up and unable to speak.
“Child, don’t cry. You’ve returned just in time; Grandmother doesn’t have much time left,” Grandma Chen said weakly.
“Grandmother, don’t say that! I brought back celestial medicine for you. It’ll fix any minor ailment instantly!”
Chen Ansheng quickly took out the best celestial pills.
However, Grandma Chen shook her head and said, “Silly child, why waste money? I’m five thousand four hundred years old; no celestial medicine works on me.”
“It’s not that expensive, Grandmother. Come on, let me help you take the medicine.”
Chen Ansheng offered her the celestial pill.
“I won’t take it.” Grandma Chen slowly shook her head. “Quickly put it away, take it back and return it.”
Chen Cuiyun walked in, “Grandmother, this is a token of respect from Ansheng. Eating it will help you get better quickly. You often say you still haven’t held your great-grandchild; you need to take care of your health.”
Then, Chen Cuiyun took the pill and personally brought it to Grandma Chen’s mouth, coaxing her for a while before she finally agreed to take it.
As the medicinal power spread within her body, it replenished her celestial energy and made her feel much better immediately.
However, her celestial body had already begun to decay; ultimately, no medicine could restore it.
The end was near, and even the celestial emperor couldn’t help.
“See, the medicine is pretty effective! Your complexion is already much better,” Chen Cuiyun said with a smile. Then she added, “Alright, you two catch up; I’ll go back to cook and bring you some food later.”
“You’re too kind, Cuiyun.”
Grandma Chen sat up.
“It’s nothing. You’re my elder. Since Ansheng isn’t home, taking care of you is the least I can do. I’ll get going now.”
After Chen Cuiyun left, Grandma Chen sighed, “If you could marry a good daughter-in-law like Cuiyun in the future, Grandmother would be at ease.”
“Grandmother, we already have a girlfriend now; next time I’ll bring her back to show you,” Chen Ansheng said.
“What? You’re not joking with Grandmother, are you?” Grandma Chen exclaimed in surprise.
“Grandson wouldn’t dare to deceive you,” Chen Ansheng laughed.
“Good, good!” Grandma Chen tightened her grip on Chen Ansheng’s hand. “Grandmother knows you wouldn’t lie to me; that’s great.”
After speaking, Grandma Chen struggled to get out of bed.
Chen Ansheng couldn’t stop her, so he let her be.
With Chen Ansheng’s support, Grandma Chen walked to the wall and said, “Child, you have great strength; break this blue brick for me. I have something to give you.”
Chen Ansheng felt puzzled but did as she asked, gently striking the brick, which shattered to reveal a wooden box inside.
Grandma Chen took out the box, slowly opened it, revealing a half-black, half-white double-dragon jade pendant.
“Take good care of this jade pendant. If you are fated, you may find your parents through it,” Grandma Chen said.
Chen Ansheng shuddered internally, his whole body freezing for a moment.
“Grandmother, this jade pendant belonged to my parents?”
“Maybe. I found it when I picked you up from your swaddling clothes,” Grandma Chen replied.
Chen Ansheng nodded and took the pendant.
“Child, I want to eat some sweet dates. Go to the old tree on the east side of the village and pick some big ones for me.”
After lying back down, Grandma Chen said to Chen Ansheng.
“Okay, you rest for now. I’ll go fetch them for you right away.”
“Go on.”
Grandma Chen watched the grown-up figure fade away, a warm smile appearing on her lips, and the images reflecting in her pupils forever froze in time.
Meanwhile, Chen Ansheng was picking celestial dates when suddenly a surge of demonic energy flooded in, blanketing the entire Chen Family Village in dark clouds.
“Roar!”
In the sky, a gigantic bull demon, wielding a steel fork, roared thunderously, causing the villagers to tremble in fear.
“Seeking death!”
Chen Ansheng’s figure flickered and dashed toward the bull demon.
“King, it’s this brat who killed our brothers!”
“You scoundrel…”
Swish!
The bull demon raised its steel fork, just about to berate Chen Ansheng.
But a streak of unmatched sword light flashed by, silencing its voice abruptly, as its massive body was cleaved in half, falling from the sky.
Below, the villagers of Chen Family Village watched this scene, utterly stunned.
