After sitting down in the chair, I officially began the interview with the Headmaster.
Around the luxurious wooden desk were neatly arranged tables filled with books, and the walls were adorned with paintings by unknown artists.
“First, let me introduce myself. I am Brecht Hausmann, the headmaster of Aegis Specialized Academy,” he said.
“Hello, Headmaster!”
The Headmaster spoke to me with a gentle smile, in a friendly tone reminiscent of greeting an old friend.
“First of all, don’t be too nervous. You’ve probably heard the instructions, but this is merely a formality. Understand?”
“Yes, I understand!”
I replied with a bright smile.
Honestly, I was a bit nervous, but our Violets specialize in relaxing.
The Headmaster handed me a plate of cookies on the desk.
Chocolate chip cookies, oatmeal cookies, and even white chocolate cookies. My mouth watered.
“I thought you might like something sweet, so I prepared some cookies. Enjoy!”
“Wow, thank you!”
I excitedly reached for a cookie.
The moment I put it in my mouth, the sweet chocolate chips and the crunchy cookie danced on my taste buds.
“Just as expected from a prestigious academy!”
“The cookies taste incredible!”
I admired internally as I munched on the cookie.
Brief casual conversations followed.
What I usually do, what my hobbies are, what I like.
As we wrapped up the small talk, the Headmaster cleared his throat and posed another question.
“Violet, I have something I’m curious about. It’s quite rare to have an interview with a transfer student like this, but I have a few questions and would like to talk with you openly. Can you answer honestly?”
In an instant, his tone changed, and I sensed that it was time to get to the point.
“Yes!”
“I see. Then, let me ask the first question. Why did you come to our school?”
I fell into thought for a moment. There were several reasons for coming to this school.
“First of all, the facilities seem great. The dormitory is clean, and the playground and training facilities look good too! And…”
I continued with a smile on my lips.
“The upperclassmen seem really kind. The food looks delicious too!”
“I see. I can confidently say that our academy’s cafeteria is among the best in the academy city,” the Headmaster chuckled.
At that moment, another thought struck me.
“Oh, and Sister Adela! No, I mean, senior!”
“You mean Adela?”
“Yes, I met the student council president before I came here. She was really pretty and cool! I want to be someone amazing like her!”
The Headmaster also nodded with a smile at my words.
“Yes, Adela is a great student and a good example. As a new junior, she’s sure to take good care of you. But it’s not just Adela; everyone here will welcome you warmly.”
The Headmaster’s face still wore a gentle smile.
Suddenly, I had a strange intuition. I could sense a peculiar feeling in the Headmaster’s laugh directed towards me.
It felt similar to the gaze of the Scholarship Officer when they looked at me.
“What’s that?”
“Do they have some inkling of something?”
The Violets grew anxious.
It reminded me of the herbal theft incident from a few months ago at Aegis Academy.
“What if they found out?”
“Will they expel me?”
As I stared nervously, the Headmaster, now wearing a serious expression, slowly began to speak.
“I want to discuss something important.”
“Yes, what is it?”
As soon as Brecht opened his mouth, I almost jumped out of my seat.
“Violet, do you plan to continue your Ariel Group activities here?”
“Kyaah!”
I ended up dropping the cookie.
“Aw, my cookie…”
As Violet sadly tried to pick up the cookie from the floor, Brecht stopped her and picked up a new cookie from the table.
“Ugh… it’s delicious…”
Violet cautiously accepted the cookie and chewed on it.
“Ugh! When did the Scholarship Officer spill the beans?”
“What a rascal!”
Brecht compared the information provided by Seijis with the girl before him.
‘This information is helpful.’
[…shows a tendency to be obsessed with food, especially sweets. Exhibits a bit of gluttony.]
Brecht thought that preparing cookies wasn’t such a bad idea.
Thanks to the food, the girl was sitting relatively still.
However, the opponent was a monster that toppled a powerful clan, and the Headmaster kept the tension alive as the conversation continued.
“Don’t worry. What I’ve heard from the Scholarship Officer is all I know. No one else, including the faculty, is aware, so rest easy.”
“Really?”
“Indeed. So, Violet, put down that sword you have hidden behind your back.”
As the Headmaster pointed it out, Violet sheepishly put the sword back in her inventory.
[Responds violently if she feels her own or loved ones’ safety is threatened.]
Recalling a passage from the report, the Headmaster carefully explained.
“I called you here because there are quite a few things we need to address. There’s the issue from the transfer exam and interview as well; I have a lot I want to discuss.”
Brecht slowly gazed at Violet.
His smile remained warm, but his eyes sparkled sharply.
“I’ve heard about the interview. You said that strength and violence took precedence when the interviewers asked questions.”
The Headmaster looked directly into Violet’s blood-red eyes.
“If a problem arises at the academy, how do you plan to handle it?”
“What kind of problem?”
“For example, if another student or teacher makes an unfair demand? Just like at Polaris.”
At the mention of Polaris, Violet slightly furrowed her brow.
Even though the academy itself evaporated with the mushroom clouds of November mornings, the outrageous antics of Polaris were still a hot topic among gossipers.
After a moment of contemplation, Violet spoke resolutely.
“Well, I’ll try to resolve it through conversation first. But if they’re a stubborn bad guy with no answers, I’ll knock them out with a gun. That’s the only way to keep the academy peaceful!”
“Did you solve problems that way at your previous school? Even before you toppled Magnavis?”
Violet hesitated for a moment before nodding.
“You’re brave. Good job.”
“Huh?”
Violet was puzzled by the Headmaster’s unexpected response.
“I don’t intend to chastise you for what you’ve done so far. Though your methods may be extreme, they were unquestionably necessary. That’s how the world of Awakened Ones works. Powerlessness in justice is meaningless.”
In an instant, Violet’s expression brightened. The network buzzed with excitement.
“They’re recognizing us!”
“What a great headmaster!”
However, in the next moment, Headmaster Brecht spoke firmly.
“But there’s one thing you must understand. Here at Aegis Academy, we do not tolerate unnecessary violence like that at Polaris. We strive to solve problems based on rules and principles here. I hope you can grasp that.”
“What if a problem arises?”
“I’m not going to stop you from resolving minor conflicts and quarrels through personal duels. Duels are basic etiquette. However, if something serious happens, please inform the professors and student council before attempting to resolve it personally. Our student council is not like the one at Polaris, where that murderer Croscelle was.”
Violet pondered deeply.
“That’s right! Senior Adela is kind!”
1 replied, slowly nodding in agreement.
The Headmaster’s words seemed valid. It was clear who was better between a caring upperclassman and an annoying psycho.
“I understand, Headmaster. Then I will try my best to solve problems through conversation.”
“Simply talking won’t do. I have a few additional commitments.”
The Headmaster raised his finger in front of Violet.
“First, do not use excessive weapons, including explosives, carelessly on campus.”
“Yikes!”
“Second, participate continuously in the special programs conducted by the academy.”
“And the last one?”
“I’d appreciate it if you could follow the guidance of the student council and professors as much as possible.”
“Ugh… the Headmaster is right in saying that.”
Violet understood his instructions but found no particular flaws, so she decided to act modelly for the time being.
“I understand, Headmaster. I will keep my promises!”
As Violet smiled brightly, the Headmaster responded with his usual gentle smile, looking relieved.
“I believe in you. From what I’ve seen so far, I’m sure you can adapt well to our academy. I will support you too.”
When the interview concluded, Violet stood up from her seat. Just as she was about to exit the headmaster’s office, his quiet voice called out to her.
“Wait a moment. I have one last thing to say. Violet, what would you do if a precious person were to get hurt?”
Violet, feeling a bit bewildered, decided to answer honestly.
“I would smash everything! Not leaving a single person behind.”
“I see… then I’ll add one more promise.”
The Headmaster rarely frowned, his expression turning serious.
“This may contradict what I just said, but in the unlikely event that a major crisis strikes this academy, don’t worry about those previous promises and act accordingly. Understand?”
There was a sense of unwavering determination in the Headmaster’s voice.
Feeling a bit confused, Violet responded that she would comply and exited the headmaster’s office.
As the sound of a girl humming a tune faded in the hall, the Headmaster sighed.
– Soon, or in the distant future, a crisis will hit the academy. Though there are some instabilities, when that time comes, that girl will surely be a remarkable guardian of the academy.
Recalling Seijis’ words, Brecht muttered.
“The student council and professors are going to have a tough time.”
Aida, who pulls out her knife at the slightest provocation. During her adaptation period at the academy, everyone will have a hard time.
However, dealing with the eccentric individuals who enter as academicians has always been the fate of the Awakened Academy.
“It’s the educator’s duty to guide talent in the right direction. I need to meet the friends of this girl as well.”
While the Headmaster pondered, Violet dashed out like a carefree person.
“Yay!”
It was a clear day in January.
