Chapter 21: Slaying the Giant Serpent
It’s not looking good.
The young lady felt dizzy; although she had timely dispersed the poisonous mist with cyclones each time, there was still some residue left in the air. With prolonged combat, she would inhale more and more of it, eventually leading to paralysis and unconsciousness.
If she couldn’t resolve this matter with the silver-banded king cobra within a short period, she would have to escape before being completely poisoned, which meant all her efforts would be for naught. The rabbits in the village would likely be slaughtered as well.
She shook her head, clenched her left hand tightly, causing her nails to dig deeply into her flesh, drawing blood, to help herself regain some clarity.
The silver-banded king cobra at that moment widened its snake eyes, staring intently at the young lady standing slightly steady in the distance, attempting to intimidate her with its presence. However, despite the unsettling sight, Lolan Hill felt only a slight psychological discomfort, nothing more.
In her previous life, she had been terrified of snakes. The most terrifying memory was from when she was young, playing at her grandmother’s house, and a red snake emerged from under the bed.
Although the silver-banded venomous snake in front of her was more dangerous, its larger size made it less intimidating.
After a brief rest, she wiped the dust off her face with her sleeve and charged again.
This time, the silver-banded king cobra didn’t attack recklessly. It coiled its body into a massive conical shape, lifting its head up high, reaching about seven or eight stories tall.
Lolan Hill followed its spiral flight path, dodging attacks and closing in on its head.
As she approached, the venomous snake opened its mouth wide, spraying venom. The young lady could only dodge to the side. At this moment, instead of directly attacking her, the snake’s head rapidly circled around her, forming a cylindrical shape that trapped her, then descended to block the aerial exit, preparing to swallow her whole.
With no way to avoid it, she kicked forcefully against the side of the snake’s body, turning back towards the giant maw. She used the airflow to blow away the venom, then thrust her spear into the upper jaw of the snake. The snake recoiled in pain, but before it could close its mouth, she stomped heavily on its lower jaw, pushing the butt of the spear inside as well.
This quickly forced the snake’s mouth open, and Lolan Hill took the opportunity to dodge aside, flying into the air and escaping the snake’s control.
The enormous silver-banded snake, using its head, tried to collide with the ground to dislodge the spear in its mouth. The spear kept shaking, and it wouldn’t take long before it slipped out.
At this moment, a fierce wind arose. Lolan Hill manipulated the forest wind, gathering rocks, soil, wooden pillars, farming tools, and shards from the village ruins, all swirling together and being hurled into the snake’s mouth, blocking its fangs and continuously stuffing more debris inside.
Finally, the silver-banded king cobra’s mouth could no longer close, filled with various debris. Its head, weighed down, hung on the ground, making it difficult to move.
“That’s it!”
The young lady flew high into the sky, countless air blades cutting into the snake’s neck. First, black scales scattered, then white flesh, bones, and finally, crimson organs until the entire head was severed.
With a dull thud, the grotesque snake head rolled to the ground.
The young lady slowly descended from the sky, wiping sweat and dust from her forehead, finally exhaling in relief.
At this moment, commotion came from outside the village. A large group of rabbits were rushing from the mountain path outside.
“Chief, Brother Kanda, I’m back! I brought reinforcements from White Mushroom Village and Red Elm Village, our village is saved!”
A young man with white rabbit ears led the charge, stunned by the chaotic scene inside the village. As nearly two hundred rabbits arrived at the village square, they witnessed an even more shocking sight.
A giant serpent over one or two hundred meters long lay sprawled on the ground, even with its head severed, it occasionally rolled and twisted, emitting a terrifying aura.
Standing atop the rubble in front of the snake’s head was a silver-haired young lady, her white dress torn at the edges, arms and sleeves stained with fresh blood, yet none of this detracted from her heroic appearance.
Her slender figure, standing amidst the monstrous snake head, fused a sense of weakness and strength in a strange harmony. Her azure, transparent eyes reflected an imposing aura, both resolute and powerful.
The surrounding rabbits slowly gathered around, bowing before this hero, their grateful exclamations echoing.
Later, Lolan Hill returned with some green tangerines to detoxify the rabbits. She squeezed the juice and mixed it with water, allowing the poisoned rabbits to drink it, and they expressed their gratitude once more.
—
“Respected and powerful adult, I am the village chief of this small village.”
The elderly rabbit village chief knelt before Lolan Hill, carefully introducing himself and the village’s situation, wary of offending her.
He truly admired this young lady who had single-handedly slain the giant serpent. It wasn’t just admiration for her strength, but also respect for her actions.
Many rabbits had witnessed the intense battle between the young lady and the giant serpent. The outcome had been hard-won. With her abilities, leaving via the wind would have been easy, yet she stayed.
Such behavior was not something ordinary people could achieve. In his youth, he had traveled with merchant caravans and seen many humans and humanoids, most of whom were selfish and self-interested. Few would even help others in need, and those willing to take risks were few and far between.
Moreover, she was so young and already so powerful. She must be one of the most talented geniuses among the younger generation in the Western Wind Kingdom.
He recalled hearing during his travels that the most talented young person in the kingdom at that time was a master’s direct disciple, who had slain a weak, injured Sequence 4 demonic beast around the age of twenty. This feat had been widely praised and sung about, but the young lady before him was much stronger.
The village chief sighed inwardly and answered her questions.
“How long has your clan been here?”
“About two hundred years.”
“Has it really been that long?”
“Yes, respected adult,” the old rabbit said with a wry smile, then explained further.
“For most of these centuries, the rabbit-eared clan lived in the eastern part of the Sighing Mountains, currently near the edge of the Verdant Empire.”
“But as the Verdant Empire expanded, our living space was increasingly squeezed. Thus, the then-chieftain decided to lead the entire tribe across the Sighing Mountains to live on the western continent.”
“Many people must have died along the way.”
In her studies, Lolan Hill knew that the Sighing Mountains were a natural barrier on the continent, with endless snow-capped peaks.
The mountains were perilous and steep, and extremely cold. Even during the Water Mercury Dynasty, only airships could pass through relatively easily. Generally, communication between the east and west of the continent was through the Emanas Grand Canyon or the golden plains to the south.
“Yes, the tribe of several million people that eventually reached this side numbered only about fifty thousand. Then we fought demonic beasts in the forest, faced food shortages, and epidemics, leaving us with only about ten thousand people now.”
At this point, the elder sighed.
