Chapter 21

A few days have passed since becoming an adventurer.

Mari and I were staying at the Adventurer Guild’s exclusive lodging facility, mainly because it was cheaper, and also because we could cook our own meals by paying a small facility fee.

Unlike regular inns, the Adventurer Guild had a decent demand for adventurers who wanted to cook meals using animals or monsters they hunted themselves.

In that adventurer’s lodging, I had just woken up and opened the door to my room, still covered in sleepy scales.

A voice calling me had been heard since morning.

“Mr. Kurt! It’s morning!”

“Yawn… Why the commotion so early in the morning?”

“Because it’s morning, and we need to eat breakfast!”

“You could just eat by yourself.”

“No, what kind of talk is that! Aren’t we comrades? Shouldn’t comrades eat meals together?”

You just want to eat the food I cook.

Anyway, it was about time for me to get up, so it didn’t matter.

At that moment, Karina awkwardly appeared from a room down the hallway.

“Ahem! What a coincidence. I was just about to have breakfast…”

“Ah! Ms. Karina! Since we’ve met like this, why don’t we have breakfast together?”

Mari urging me to eat breakfast and the door opening at the same time—what a coincidence.

Anyone could see she had been waiting for me to come out.

Clearly, she had been waiting for a chance to have breakfast together.

As evidence, when Mari suggested having breakfast together, Karina couldn’t hide her pure smile, like a flower blooming.

“Y-yes! Since we’ve met like this, it would be nice to have breakfast together!”

Then, with an awkward gesture, she handed me a prepared food package.

“But it would be rude to receive food without contributing! I’ll provide the ingredients!”

“Wow! These precious things! Thank you so much!”

Mari, unaware of anything, sent a pure smile of gratitude to the food package Karina brought out.

They think of me as just a cook.

Sigh. Well, saving on food expenses isn’t bad.

Let’s eat.

.

.

.

Let’s have a simple breakfast.

For the past few days, Karina had been giving me peeled tomatoes with northern spices and wine as ingredients, so I had no choice but to keep eating northern-style stew.

Basically, stew is similar to oriental soups, so eating it for a few days doesn’t make it boring, but still, I’d like to eat something else if possible.

Moreover, today, since the peeled tomatoes ran out, she brought raw tomatoes, so I ignored Karina’s expectant gaze for stew and started cooking.

Stew takes at least 30 minutes to an hour to properly simmer, so wasting that much time every morning is out of the question.

So today, a new dish.

I bought eggs from the Three-legged Fowl stored at the Adventurer Guild for cooking.

The Three-legged Fowl, as the name suggests, is a chicken with three legs, but unlike the legendary Three-legged Crow from my past life, it wasn’t a divine beast with great abilities.

Rather, it was a low-level monster, similar to the One-Horned Rabbit or the Golden Bird.

But the Three-legged Fowl had one more peculiarity: it had two cloacas, one between each leg, functioning normally, meaning it could lay two eggs daily if well-fed.

Thus, despite being a monster, the Three-legged Fowl was popular as livestock due to its harmlessness and high productivity.

Honestly, I don’t know about the nutrition, but the taste wasn’t inferior to regular eggs.

No, considering it hasn’t undergone any breeding improvements, it’s quite impressive that it tastes similar to the heavily bred chickens from my past life.

First, a dish using the Three-legged Fowl’s eggs and tomatoes Karina secretly handed me, expecting northern-style cooking, but it’s not northern-style at all.

First, crack the eggs and mix the whites and yolks well.

At this point, remove the chalaza from the eggs.

The chalaza is the part that keeps the yolk centered in the white, and removing it is better for a clean texture in egg dishes.

Usually, the chalaza is hard to see and thin, making it difficult to remove, so a metal sieve is used to let the whites and yolks pass through while catching the chalaza.

But since I’m transcendent, I just physically pick out the chalaza.

Whatever.

Then, season the mixed egg liquid with a bit of salt.

Once the egg mixture is ready, lightly grease a newly bought frying pan with cooking oil and pour the mixture in.

If the heat is too high, the eggs will set before scrambling properly, so keep the heat low.

Then, using chopsticks, keep stirring to control the firmness and shape of the eggs.

When the eggs start to scramble lightly, add the bite-sized tomatoes prepared earlier.

Sizzle.

Stir-fry until the tomato juice seeps into the eggs.

And until the tomatoes are tender.

Once done, quickly divide the tomato scrambled eggs into bowls before they overcook.

The tomato scrambled eggs using Three-legged Fowl eggs are complete.

“Ah, ah… My northern-style dish…”

Karina looked at the tomato scrambled eggs with sad eyes, but that’s not my problem.

She didn’t specify the menu when giving me the ingredients, so I can make whatever I want.

With one dish done, but honestly, this alone won’t fill me up.

I prefer a hearty breakfast.

So, I prepare a second dish.

Of course, dishes that take too long are out of the question, so I make a quick dish that can be served before the tomato scrambled eggs cool.

First, buy bread made from half flour and half rye and some lettuce from the Adventurer Guild.

Then, thinly slice the Shavel Tiger bacon meat that finished smoking yesterday.

Bacon is good thick, but for sandwiches, it’s best when thin enough to see through.

Then, there’s no special cooking.

Cut the rye bread in half horizontally and fill it with thinly sliced bacon, appropriately torn lettuce, and thinly sliced leftover tomatoes from the scrambled eggs.

The sauce to unify the sandwich’s flavor is my homemade mayonnaise from the day before.

Mayonnaise is a very basic dressing sauce made with cooking oil, vinegar, and egg yolks.

The method is simple.

One cup of cooking oil, one spoon of vinegar, and one chilled egg yolk without the chalaza.

Then, mix all the ingredients together.

The key is precise measurement since it’s so basic and simple.

But being such a basic and simple dressing sauce, it can be customized according to the maker’s taste.

I added a bit of lime juice for acidity and a bit of salt and sugar for seasoning, sticking to the basics.

Spread that mayonnaise between the bread and bacon, and the Shavel Tiger BLT sandwich is complete before the tomato scrambled eggs cool.

Bacon.

Lettuce.

Tomato.

The simple combination of these three makes a highly accomplished sandwich.

That is the royal road of sandwiches, the BLT sandwich.

How much I wanted this BLT sandwich when I ate the moonflower sandwich with Mari in the past.

With raw tomatoes (sponsored by Karina) and Shavel Tiger bacon ready, I couldn’t wait any longer.

With these two dishes, today’s breakfast menu is complete.

“Wow! It looks delicious as always!”

“My, my tomatoes…”

“Here. It’s done.”

Three-legged Fowl tomato scrambled eggs and Shavel Tiger BLT sandwich.

Each is a beloved breakfast menu item in Chinese and Western cuisines.
