Chapter 20: Rumors
Yuan Xiaoling is in the Broadcasting Department, Bai Ling is in the Physical Education Department; they aren’t on the same campus. Though it’s not far, they have to split ways at the main gate.
As for Zhang Shanshan, she studies Business Management, even further away. However, before leaving, she threw down a fierce line:
“I told you, you’ll regret this! Just wait and see!”
Then she hopped onto her car and sped off.
Yuan Xiaoling blinked her eyes, “What does that mean? Is she gonna bully us at school?”
Bai Ling didn’t respond, acting as if she hadn’t heard, and hailed a Didi ride on her mobile phone.
But after arriving at school, she noticed something was off.
“It’s her, the one with the surname Bai.”
“Right, the one from the news half a year ago. I still remember.”
“Is she really from the Physical Education Department? She looks so weak, doesn’t seem like it.”
“And she looks pretty ordinary.”
Bai Ling frowned slightly.
In the year since starting university, due to family issues, her personality had become somewhat reclusive. She had no close friends at school and hadn’t participated in any social circles. Therefore, receiving cold stares at school was normal.
But it wasn’t like today, where people were pointing and whispering wherever she went.
After entering the classroom, while the teacher hadn’t arrived yet, Bai Ling casually approached a classmate in the back row. Her eyes flashed with a red light:
“What’s going on?”
……
Yuan Xiaoling also encountered a similar situation. The difference was, being the most popular campus beauty of Tianhai University and the goddess of the Broadcasting Department, she certainly wasn’t short of “friends,” and someone reported the news to her from afar.
“There’s a post on the school forum saying you’re involved in a lesbian relationship with a girl from the Physical Education Department,” asked the short-haired girl in the front row, “is it true or not?”
[Gu Hui, your classmate.]
The system kindly provided an introduction.
“What kind of post?” Yuan Xiaoling pulled out her mobile phone, “Let me take a look.”
Following Gu Hui’s guidance, she found a hot thread on the forum with over two thousand comments.
[Help! Living like this at someone else’s house, is it really okay?]
The poster was Zhang Shanshan, and the content of the post read:
“My family doesn’t have much contact with relatives who came to stay at my place during the holidays. Coincidentally, it’s someone from the same school. Even more coincidentally, this time during the May Day holiday, she brought another schoolmate to stay.
Fine, whatever. I originally thought they were just friends, but unexpectedly, they had that special kind of relationship.
Let’s just say, although I don’t discriminate against those kinds of preferences, showing affection openly in front of others makes people uncomfortable. Even my parents felt awkward and thought our school was full of such people.
Sigh, completely speechless.
Check out the pictures downstairs.”
Yuan Xiaoling gasped in surprise.
Gu Hui, seeing her reaction, knew the matter was likely true.
“You suddenly got into this without telling us… And you were too careless to let someone take random photos.”
Hearing this, Yuan Xiaoling quickly scrolled down. There were several photos, all showing Bai Ling hugging her affectionately.
There were ones of them whispering on the balcony, sitting on the sofa hugging each other while playing with Dabeitù, and even one with her head buried in Yuan Xiaoling’s chest while washing her face.
She carefully examined the high-definition large images several times and sighed in relief.
“Phew, at least nothing embarrassing.”
Actually, in the last two photos, their collars had been pulled open, but Zhang Shanshan’s sneaky angle couldn’t capture them.
“It would’ve been better if there was something scandalous,” Gu Hui said, “at least then some perverts would speak up for you.”
Yuan Xiaoling furrowed her brows and glanced at the over two thousand comments. Good grief, all sorts of condemnation.
Moral condemnation, and criticism towards same-sex relationships aside, some guys weren’t bothered by yuri but instead thought it was a legitimate opportunity to date both. However, they seemed to dislike Bai Ling.
[Goddess Xiaoling, how could you pick such an ordinary girl, and she’s so frail.]
[Always glaring with red eyes, like a character from a horror movie.]
[Support Goddess Xiaoling dating girls, that way I’ll get two wives in the future, but can we find someone prettier?]
Yuan Xiaoling was breaking out in a cold sweat.
Goodness, you guys are really fearless.
Actually, Bai Ling looked quite attractive, just not exceptionally outstanding. Plus, her physique was too frail.
And, in Yuan Xiaoling’s eyes, Bai Ling scored many points for her aura. But the classmates didn’t know that a single thought from her could decide the life and death of everyone in the school, so her icy demeanor instead detracted points.
When the old world order gradually collapses, they will understand what real strength and beauty mean.
However, not all of the over two thousand comments were negative. For example, these few:
[Congratulations to Bai Ling from the second year, second class of the Physical Education Department, for successfully capturing the heart of Tianhai’s top beauty and Broadcasting Department goddess, greatly boosting the morale of the Physical Education Department!]
[Heartfelt congratulations to Bai Ling from the Physical Education Department, who has taken the “top” position in this internal competition. I hereby announce that from now on, “Art and Sports Students” will be renamed “Sports and Art Students.”]
[The mighty Physical Education Department, its reputation spreads far and wide!]
Seeing these warm words, Yuan Xiaoling couldn’t help but sigh, “There are still good people around.”
“Where are they? There are only a few of these. Most of the over two thousand commenters don’t even know you… They’ve probably just heard your name, seen your picture, and joined others in criticizing,” Gu Hui argued on her behalf.
Yuan Xiaoling smiled helplessly, “I’m actually fine, they didn’t criticize me much. The comments about me were mostly dirty jokes. It’s mainly Bai Ling…”
[Ding~ Optional mission detected: Pouring salt on wounds.
The female lead has gained a bad reputation at school for some reasons. As the antagonist, how could you not take advantage of this opportunity to make things worse?
Mission requirement: Add a few more negative rumors to the female lead already embroiled in public controversy.]
Yuan Xiaoling rolled her eyes.
If this happens, Bai Ling might be furious. If I stir up more trouble, wouldn’t I just be offering myself up to be vented on?
Fortunately, it’s an optional mission, so it’s fine not to do it.
At this moment, a few surrounding classmates gathered around.
“Yuan Xiaoling, why did you choose that girl from the Physical Education Department? Did you know each other before?”
“When did you two start dating? We had no idea.”
“Are students from the Physical Education Department really good at physical endurance?”
Yuan Xiaoling avoided discussing these gossipy questions, lest she accidentally say the wrong thing.
Until Gu Hui whispered to her, “Yuan Xiaoling, are sports students particularly vigorous? Can you handle it?”
Upon hearing this, Yuan Xiaoling couldn’t help herself anymore.
“Meh, average. Not a match for me.”
The surrounding classmates immediately perked up.
“Really or fake?”
“Hurry, elaborate.”
“Explain why she’s not a match.”
“You guys don’t know, after the first time, she slept for more than ten hours straight,” Yuan Xiaoling boasted, “It’s good she’s a sports student; she woke up after passing out overnight. But her fingers hurt so badly that it took her a day or two to recover.”
She’s gonna get the concequences yet again when they get back home, Lmfao.
