Chapter 2: The War Between Humans and Elves
Looking at Airael, who seemed lost in thought, Hela stepped forward and reminded her, “Your Majesty, it’s time for your lesson.”
“Uh, right!”
Snapping back to reality, Airael gently nodded, standing up from her chair and heading towards the classroom.
Hela followed closely behind her.
Trailing behind Hela were Airael’s two personal attendants: Celia with her long golden hair and Aurora with her flowing black locks.
As the four of them reached the classroom door, they encountered the Grand Priestess Linis walking in their direction.
Dressed in her elegant green priestess robe, Linis looked incredibly dignified and had a figure that could rival anyone’s.
As for her appearance, it seemed that among the Elven Race, there simply weren’t any elves who were unattractive.
Seeing Linis approach, Hela and the others behind Airael bowed respectfully.
Before Airael had appeared, the leader of the Elven Race was Grand Priestess Linis.
Since Airael couldn’t take on royal duties just yet, Linis would continue to hold significant power for the foreseeable future.
Linis walked over and paused, first nodding to Hela and then turning to Airael, saying, “Your Majesty, may I take a moment of your time? I have something important to report to you.”
Airael didn’t respond immediately, looking back at Hela.
Airael was feeling uncertain.
Even though Linis had important matters to discuss with her, her planned schedule was to attend class, where Domiya, her magic instructor, should already be waiting for her in the classroom.
Believing strongly in respecting her teacher, she felt she shouldn’t keep them waiting too long.
Domiya had already arrived at the classroom ahead of her as a concession to her royal status.
Thus, she sought Hela’s help to get her opinion.
Certainly, more so because she feared making a mistake and being subjected to one of Hela’s terrifying lectures.
Linis frowned slightly at Airael’s hesitation.
While Hela was the etiquette teacher and responsible for Airael’s daily life, it seemed Airael depended too much on Hela, even requiring her opinion on matters like this, which was not ideal.
But Linis quickly smoothed her furrowed brow.
Thinking that Airael was still adjusting to her new role and undergoing training, it was just a matter of waiting some time.
“Your Majesty, since Linis has something important to discuss with you, why don’t you speak with her first? Allowing Domiya to wait a bit longer should be fine; she probably won’t hold a grudge against you over it.”
Feeling relieved with Hela’s input, Airael turned to the now-composed Linis and asked, “Linis, what is this important matter?”
Linis took a deep breath and pinned her gaze on Hela for a moment.
Hela stood firm and composed.
Linis then shifted her attention back to Airael, calmly stating the ominous news that made Airael’s heart sink, “Your Majesty, the Humans have declared war on us, the Elven Race!”
At this revelation, Airael’s elegant and noble demeanor vanished, leaving her slack-jawed in shock as she exclaimed, “Linis, what did you just say?!”
“Your Majesty, that was rather ungraceful,” Hela interjected sternly.
Upon hearing Hela’s serious tone, Airael glanced at her.
Faced with Hela’s composed and imposing presence, she couldn’t help but shiver and quickly gather back her earlier grace and dignity.
With that, Hela appeared satisfied.
As a result, Linis’s gaze towards Hela softened considerably.
Hela was indeed exceptionally capable in this regard.
No matter how dire the situation, the Queen of the Elves must maintain her composure and exude elegance and grace.
Yet only Airael knew the distress that bubbled inside her.
Throughout the past few days, through the teachings of her instructors, she had gained a basic understanding of the world.
The Elven Race, once the rulers of this realm, had seen their glory fade away like a distant memory.
Now, the dominant force on the continent was the Humans, and the Elves had become a relic of the past.
Particularly, the Humans had recently produced a heroic figure—Alexander.
This name carried significant weight in Airael’s mind.
After all, in her previous life, this name was well-known to many, like the ancient Macedonian king, Alexander the Great.
In Airael’s view, both Alexanders shared many similarities: they were rulers who led their armies into battle, establishing vast empires.
According to her instructors, the empire currently built by this Alexander was shining brightly, rivaling the former glory of the Elven Empire.
The Dwarves in the southern mountains were his vassals, the Orcs in the northern plains he had repelled time and again, and the human states in the eastern prairies and deserts bowed in submission to him.
In this situation, the only conquest left for Alexander was the Elves, located in the west across a vast sea.
As for other races, aside from those in the ocean, they had long lost their foothold in this world and were left to survive in the shadows, devoid of any value for conquest.
Meanwhile, there was little conflict of interest between the ocean-dwelling races and the land-dwelling Humans.
Surely, it was unreasonable to expect ocean creatures to start living on land, or for land dwellers to occupy the oceans.
Putting aside the chatter, upon hearing that such a powerful enemy was approaching, it was a wonder that Airael’s delicate heart could handle it!
Indeed, I really shouldn’t have become the Queen of the Elves!
Now it seemed like her nation might face annihilation any moment.
She could only hope that this Alexander the Great wouldn’t harbor any peculiar quirks and treat her, the deposed queen, kindly.
Facing doom, Airael couldn’t help but feel a sense of deep sorrow within her heart.
In contrast, Linis and the other elves remained calm, even Celia and Aurora, her personal attendants.
They were noble elves; even if their race no longer enjoyed its former glory, they still held confidence in their kind.
Within this atmosphere, Airael gradually began to stabilize her emotions.
Of course, her complete emotional recovery was also thanks to Linis, who spoke reassurances next.
“Your Majesty, while the Humans may be strong now, you shouldn’t worry excessively about the upcoming war. A vast ocean separates our territories from theirs—it serves as a natural barrier between the Elven Race and the other races. Furthermore, the creatures of the sea would likely not allow Humans to traverse their domain freely.”
