Chapter 2

Monsters, beasts, or apparitions; the names they are called vary across different media.

Somehow, when they are subdued at will, those that could be monsters, beasts, or apparitions scatter and fly away into the sky along with the blooming magical powder.

“Grrr, I’ll get you next time!”

The most notable feature of magical girl comics and animations aimed at children.

The enemies just don’t seem to die.

This black-furred beast, which had been shivering and trembling just moments ago, quickly regains its bravado as it realizes it won’t die.

Even if it tries to say something while being unable to gather the energy to stand up and crushed under its own weight, it poses no real threat.

“Yeah, come at me…”

Though its expression was mostly hidden by a mask, it speaks nonchalantly while crossing its legs.

With its tail blurring the ambiguous implications of “I don’t know what I will do next,” it lifts its rear before the furry beast completely disappears.

As the monster fully vanishes, the shadows of citizens that were nowhere to be seen start to appear.

“Sun! Let’s hurry and escape!”

“Yay, yay.”

Following Shiyeon’s voice, it hops forward while tapping its shoe heels on the ground.

A common unwritten rule in magical girl stories.

Before being surrounded by a barrage of questions from the citizens, they must escape.

In the modern society filled with CCTV on every street.

If someone genuinely looked into it, there’s no way they wouldn’t know who lives where….

This is just an inevitable flaw of the world, right?

Deep thoughts are a waste of time.

After meandering back home.

It trudges over to the two-story bed placed in a dark corner of the room.

“Ow, I’m dying.”

The complaint that had become a habit slips out.

Feeling too lazy to climb the stairs, it simply sprawls across Shiyeon’s bed on the first floor.

It picks up the smartphone that had been left charging and immerses itself in a flood of information, feeling like the day has been wrapped up.

Monsters appear between zero to two times a day.

At least knowing the frequency makes it possible to relax on the days where at least one monster is hunted.

What it looks at on the smartphone are several amusing webtoons that come out on specific days of the week.

And, a casual scroll through various communities.

“Magical Girl, Gallery…”

There are numerous places to visit, but the one it tends to frequent the most is the gallery.

Most users are just ordinary people.

The conversation topics are mostly about magical girls.

Despite everything, it’s just a place where people with a common topic gather.

[How does it make sense that there are so many CCTV cameras in South Korea and no one knows a single magical girl? (3)]

[I’ve seen a magical girl in real life, post something. (12)]

[I’m telling you, the monsters are aliens. (2)]

Just watching these humans feels like seeing animals beyond a zoo enclosure, and it’s amusing.

It doesn’t write posts or comments.

They are generally aggressive people, so just watching from a distance is best.

[Honestly, can’t we at least expect Mun?]

“Huh?”

It couldn’t resist the temptation of the title and lightly placed its thumb on it.

After a brief loading that filled the white screen with spinning, the result that came out was….

[The post does not exist or has been deleted.]

“What could it have said…?”

Its finger naturally moves towards the gallery management entries.

The title of the post was “Honestly, can’t we at least expect Mun?”

The reason for the block is….

[Motherfing pedo.]

“Damn it.”

Just the reason alone allows for a clear guess, and it looks at the black letters with cold eyes.

Heading rightward to the nutritious-free posts, it shifted its focus to the concept posts.

These are posts that received many votes; writings that are relatable or humorous in various ways.

[I’ve seen a magical girl in real life, post something. (18)]

The post seen in the overall post section earlier.

It seems to have received a lot of votes.

Could there be a magical girl who has been revealed in such a shoddy world? Out of curiosity, it clicked on the post….

Only to find a large picture of a man wearing a bank robber mask staring back at it.

Judging by the photo’s appearance, it seemed like one taken overseas.

“What the hell is this?”

Curiosity growing, it scrolled down under the picture, scratching with its thumb….

[Isn’t this Sun?]

“Damn it.”

The youthful voice, which does not suit the rude language, came out from its throat.

Shiyeon, who was in the kitchen, seemed to have heard that voice faintly as she poked her head out to ask.

“What? What did you say?”

“Nothing—”

“Cough, ha…”

The sound of holding back laughter, unpleasant and ringing.

By now, the bearcub beside it had started to gaze at the screen together.

It seemed to understand it shouldn’t laugh and was desperately trying to suppress its laughter.

Feeling the unwelcome sound, its mood suddenly soured.

“Hey, is it funny?”

“Eep.”

“Let me laugh a bit too.”

With surprisingly small hands, it grabbed the fluffy head of the bear and, while standing on the familiar height where the wallpaper was peeling off, slammed the back of its head against it.

By now, the bearcub must be feeling a chill running down its back.

“P-please, not that!”

“Blame your foolish mouth.”

The exposed gray cement where the wallpaper was peeling off.

Without any mercy, it rubbed the bear’s head against that spot.

“Augh—!”

Letting out a scream from the adorable magical girl’s mascot that simply couldn’t be acceptable, it struggled wildly with its soft limbs….

Perhaps, as with games where such comments are made, the effect might be minimal.

The bearcub’s head felt somewhat loosened as it was being rubbed against the cement wall.

Looking at the bearcub that looked limp, it seemed the stitches on the back of its head had come undone.

Carelessly tossing it onto the living room floor, it lay back down on the bed.

“Now it’s quiet.”

“That’s too much…”

Shiyeon murmured, seemingly shocked at the scene, staring blankly at the bear’s head which was shedding fluff.

Still, it would return to normal soon as if nothing had happened.

Is it a creature that doesn’t need to be worried about?

Though one might question if it should even be called a creature.

“Oh.”

A growl sounded from Shiyeon’s stomach.

Embarrassed by the uncontrollable noise, it turned on the smartphone while lying on the bed.

The delivery app it had been relying on almost every day.

Even if the facilities were equipped, it was merely two elementary school students.

Even with a kitchen, what could they possibly make with these tiny hands?

“What do you want to eat?”

“Chicken…?”

“What flavor?”

“Soy sauce….”

“Then I’ll get half-and-half fried chicken with soy sauce.”

With skillful taps, the delectable item was placed into the shopping cart.

The taste was secondary, but for just one chicken, there was an extra charge for the boneless price, an additional cost for the soy sauce chicken, plus the delivery fee, totaling 26,000 won.

Why on earth is ordering a single chicken almost 30,000 won?

A sigh and a curse involuntarily slipped out.

“Ugh, this world is fed…”

While grumbling, it pressed the order completion button.

Waiting for the chicken to arrive, it rummaged through the fridge.

“Oh.”

Then with a short sigh, it realized it had forgotten something important in the fridge.

As soon as it opened the fridge and let out a sigh, Shiyeon walked over to ask.

“What’s wrong?”

“We don’t have cola…”

Since it wasn’t a set menu, the chicken might come with pickled radish, but soda or cola would probably come in cans.

Though both were suitable for their small stature, they didn’t have too much appetite….

“Still, one can would be nice…”

“I’ll go buy some, so make sure to take care of the chicken when it arrives.”

“Okay!”

After hearing Shiyeon’s upbeat response, it dragged its slippers outside.

A convenience store about five minutes away from the apartment.

Of course, if one thinks of a big mart, it’s notoriously expensive, but there aren’t any suitable grocery stores nearby, so when it’s urgent, this is the best option.

“Sure is expensive….”

Just a bottle of 1.25 liters of cola for 3,200 won.

At this price, it would have been cheaper to add it as an additional order through delivery.

By now, the delivery motorcycle must have already left, and there was no other way.

“3,200 won, please.”

“Three thousand… two hundred won….”

Taking crumpled cash from its wallet and pulling out accurate change from the coin compartment, it handed it to the clerk.

Carefully cradling the cola bottle to avoid excessive shaking.

Upon returning to the room with the cola bottle that just fit snugly in its arms.

It didn’t seem like the chicken had arrived yet, as it didn’t smell strongly of grease.

“Hasn’t it come yet?”

“Yeah….”

Shiyeon’s expression had turned a bit forlorn, tugging at its heart.

Chicken shouldn’t take this long to arrive.

Could something have gone wrong during the delivery?

While pondering such thoughts, it unconsciously looked at the smartphone screen to see it was lit up.

Did an alarm come through? It lightly tapped the protruding right button to turn on the screen.

Several missed calls.

Were these the calls that came in while it was bringing back the cola bottle?

“Um….”

“Shh, shut up, you bastard Jin-su.”

Deciding to listen to the bearcub’s restored voice later, it was urgent for the moment.

It went ahead to call back the series of missed calls, and they turned out to be the chicken shop.

“Hello.”

“Ah, yes. You are the one who ordered the chicken, right?”

Surprised, the male voice on the other end of the phone asked again.

“Yes, that’s me.”

Upon affirming again over the phone, the manager began explaining the details of the missed calls.

“Well… there seems to have been a bit of an issue during the delivery, so the rider can’t get to you.”

“Um, a monster appeared nearby…”

Overlapping with the voice from the smartphone, the bearcub’s voice made it rub its forehead in frustration.

It had just felt relieved thinking they could rest after hunting one monster.

Now, as if that wasn’t enough, something else appeared to interfere with this precious time.

“Once it’s resolved, the delivery will come, right?”

“Ah, yes… it should.”

Hanging up, it clicked its tongue with a grim expression.

“Tch.”

“What should we do?”

“Get ready to receive the chicken; it’s enough for one person.”

Saying that to Shiyeon, it took the mask from the closet and put it on.

By all means, it wouldn’t let the one who interrupted its tranquil afternoon chicken time escape unpunished.
