Chapter 168: Bluefire Burning the Moon, Blood Dyeing the Royal City Part 2
Click.
A light sound came from the ice spear piercing through Teresa’s body.
My head buzzed.
In the next moment, the ice spear exploded with a “bang.” Fragments flew past my face, leaving a tiny trail of blood, but I felt nothing.
My attention was focused entirely on Teresa’s headless “corpse.”
After the ice spear shattered, her body fell from the air and crashed onto the ice shards on the ground. Then… I saw her right foot twitch slightly, and her entire body started to struggle and twist.
Looking at this horrifying scene, my heart surged with turmoil. I quickly picked up Captain Gray that had been dropped on the ground, gripping it tightly in my hand, my eyes fixed on that terrifying body, never letting up for a moment.
Teresa’s body twisted and writhed, slowly standing up.
Blood-colored flames ignited on her body.
The fire was weak but quickly enveloped her severed arms. Amidst the disgusting sounds of what seemed like a mass of dripping flesh constantly writhing, Teresa’s arms grew back.
She was resurrected… No, she was never dead… The Gate of Truth… damned heretic!
“My… God… My God…” Charles couldn’t help but mutter in terror.
“Do not worry. The remaining children…” Teresa spoke.
The voice didn’t come from her body, but from the head still lying on the ground.
“I only made them drink rum mixed with datura, perhaps they won’t be able to move until dawn, but they will be fine. The blood… is already enough.”
She stretched her body, then bent down, picking up her own head from the ground, pushing aside the hair tangled around her face, holding it close to her chest — facing me.
In my vision, that head curled its lips. A face covered in gore revealed a chilling smile: “I never expected it would be exposed because of the water lily grass… Abel really doesn’t listen, clearly saying he would take his sister’s place… it’s so infuriating.”
Whoosh—
Flames erupted from her mouth, instantly reaching her cheeks, lifting her silver hair.
Teresa’s voice began to sound muddled and unpleasant: “But ultimately, this is about bleeding. They feel scared, wanting to run away, which is understandable… That’s why I periodically send water lily grass, hoping to alleviate their mental and physical suffering… Now that you’ve intercepted the water lily grass, I have no choice but to use alcohol and datura as substitutes… the effect isn’t great, I feel somewhat guilty towards the children.”
… Guilty?
Do you feel guilty?!
“Madwoman…” I gritted my teeth and said this.
I cannot communicate with devils, I cannot understand.
I just want to kill her quickly.
Snap snap snap—
Captain Gray, gripped tightly in my hand, cracked from the hilt, the chain clattering to the ground. I suddenly exerted force with my waist, swinging my arm, sending the glinting sickle blade straight toward the burning head.
The dark blade pierced precisely through the top of her head and emerged from her mouth. I immediately exerted more force, pulling the chain to snatch the head from her hand, throwing it against the nearby wall.
Plop.
The head shattered into several pieces. The fragments of bone and flesh wrapped in flames fell to the ground, gradually turning into charred ash.
Yet, looking at this horrifying scene, my mood became even heavier.
I knew it was futile.
Squish squish… squirm squirm…
A new head slowly emerged from her neck. The face, including the hair and eyebrows, was exactly the same as before, unchanged.
Apart from the blood on her nun’s habit, Teresa had returned to perfect condition.
She moved her head, her eyes, opened her mouth, and looked at me, smiling beautifully.
This smile sent shivers down my spine.
“Cursed…”
Snap snap snap.
Captain Gray transformed back into the scythe. I arched my body, and blue light gathered in my left hand, forming over a dozen sharp ice spears that hovered above my head.
“…Miss Silvija, we don’t actually need to fight to the death here, do we?” Teresa’s gaze was sincere. “I don’t want to kill you. There’s no deep-seated hatred between us…”
I interrupted her immediately. “But I want to kill you!”
“Why do you want to kill me?”
“You’re a demon.”
Teresa shook her head at this.
“I’m not a demon. Those children… I actually like them. Whether you believe it or not, I’m not lying to you. I don’t want to kill anyone, but this… it can’t be helped.”
“Can’t be helped?” I stared at her face, enunciating each word clearly. “Teresa, you deserve to die!”
With a gentle flick of my right arm, the ice spears hovering above us emitted a piercing shriek and shot towards her at an almost imperceptible speed.
Whoosh—
I took a deep breath and stepped forward, launching myself into a dive towards her.
Teresa did not dodge or avoid; she let the ice spears pierce her entire body. She kicked up the giant axe from the ground, grabbed it, and crouched, gathering strength—then swung it at me.
“Ha!”
“Aaah—”
Clang!
The collision between Captain Gray and the black axe produced a deafening sound, sparks flying as their weapons met.
The intense impact numbed my arms, causing me to stagger backward, taking two steps before regaining my footing and immediately charging forward again, the giant scythe flashing in my hand, aiming for her side once more.
Swish!
This strike missed.
Teresa reacted quickly, twisting her body just in time to avoid the blade. With a loud thud, the scythe struck the ground, cutting into the hard rock and sending fragments flying past my ears.
Whoosh.
Flames appeared in my peripheral vision.
Then came a flash of red light, and a surge of scorching force collided with my lower abdomen. I felt a sudden lightness, followed by dizziness, as my feet were lifted off the ground and I was sent crashing into the wall like a cannonball.
Bang!
My body shattered the brick wall and fell to the ground.
At that moment, I felt as though all my bones were about to break apart.
Kicked in the stomach…
“Guh.”
A burning pain gripped my stomach, and I vomited acid, then quickly stood up again, ignoring the pain. My eyes focused on Teresa once more—
There was no expected pursuit; Teresa had already reached the edge of the blood pool.
She extended her delicate arm and plucked the trembling blood droplet, about the size of a fist, from it. Her face was filled with an ecstatic expression.
“I succeeded… Haha.”
In my vision, the nun, drenched in blood, raised her head and slowly closed her eyes.
“Come on. The remaining blood… is the celebration before the end.”
As her words faded, the blood in the pool boiled again. The crimson liquid gradually defied gravity, rising into the air, twisting like a snake, carrying a strong stench, enveloping Teresa’s entire body.
Her body transformed into a terrifying black hole, absorbing and swallowing every drop of blood within half a second.
Sizzling—
Strange sounds came from her body, the ice spears piercing her dissolving and evaporating rapidly. The terrible wounds healed swiftly, flames constantly flaring up and dying out inside her, bright light traveling through her veins, forming countless distorted and mysterious patterns on her skin.
Suddenly, I recalled what Carlos had said.
[Third stage of the Gate of Truth, Blood Sacrifice… The enemies at this stage are very terrifying, extremely so… I have faced them once… It was very difficult.]
A demon that burns others’ blood…
Whoosh—
I stepped out in Moonwalk and charged at her again.
Teresa, no matter what you intend to do, such inhumane acts… I will not allow you to succeed!
