Chapter 196. Teaser for a New Event (2)
Even though I started the week by living the life of a grandma’s eraser, the important thing was that a new, unique event was about to drop.
I was already busy preparing for the event that would come next week. Of course, aside from those preparations, it was hard to guess what the “map” for that event would look like.
“Commander, what are you planning to do with the fleet this time?”
“Hmm, honestly, I won’t know for sure until the official announcement drops.”
The event itself follows the common tiered structure seen in mobile games, but the problem was that I had no idea what the map for the first event, “Ancient Base Ruins,” would look like.
“You don’t know? Wasn’t it around during your time, Commander?”
“No, not really. You know that ‘Ancient Base Ruins’ from the beginning, right?”
“Yep.”
“Well, it’s called an instant dungeon, but the problem is that its scale varies wildly depending on the game’s world setting.”
Even the smallest user-grade patrol ships in this game are hundreds of meters long. Cruiser battleships, battleships, and light aircraft carriers are tens of kilometers long. And the endgame ships like dreadnoughts, battleships, and special large ships like the Kraken we’re using now are at least hundreds of kilometers long.
After an update, the “super dreadnoughts” that large clans or groups of smaller clans can build are no joke—they’re the size of satellites or small planets. Given the game’s insane scale, a “small dungeon” could mean throwing us into a hidden ancient star system or creating a small galaxy for us to explore.
On the other hand, it could be the complete opposite, like a small abandoned base where we send in a small assault ship, deploy troops and superhumans, or even just a few superhumans for a TRPG-style mission. The scale and forces involved are completely random, making it a bizarrely unpredictable event.
Normally, by now, I’d have a fully intact fleet, reached level 7, and would be casually waiting for any event while building battleships and carriers. But unfortunately, even with the war compensation, my fleet is still in recovery mode… *sigh*.
So, to make sure I can at least handle whatever comes, I’ve been grinding resource quests to level up my superhumans. I also built a new cruiser battleship and, at the same time, had the shipyards construct four destroyers designed as evasion tanks to speed up event preparations.
And in the middle of all this…
*”Hee-hee-hee! Is this the place where they fought 1 vs. 5? They probably haven’t recovered their fleet yet, so lucky me!”*
“???”
Out of nowhere, some crazy user from another region, like Betelgeuse before, came all the way here to plunder me, bringing up something that happened two weeks ago.
*”Bio damage is dangerous, you fools!”*
*”Waaaaah!”*
*”What the hell, there’s so many of them!”*
Thanks to my pirate defense fleet (strong, no resource consumption), they were all torn apart, leaving me with a bounty of resources from their wrecked ships. So, I decided to send a thank-you message to this nameless user who unknowingly supplied me with much-needed resources.

==========
Maybe because I was so focused on preparing, the week flew by in an instant, and the morning of the event finally arrived.
“What a refreshing morning.”
With the two cruiser battleships I built over the week, 12 evasion-tank destroyers, overseers and heavy cruisers forming the backbone of the fleet, and the Kraken, which has grown four times larger than the cruiser battleships and light carriers next to it, along with a small monster fleet by its side, I nodded in satisfaction. Even though it’s not half the size of my fleet in its prime, it’s still a solid force.
And this satisfaction…
It wasn’t just about the numbers.
As I turned around after watching the grand parade of large ships in the vast expanse of space visible through the command center’s window.
“Commander, just give the order whenever you’re ready.”
“Hmm.”
Maybe it’s because, for now, she’s the only ‘commander character’ at our base.
Leading the group, Belial stepped forward to speak, followed by Ignis, Pashtira, Gryanarr, and Partia.
Adding to that, Oxianor, the tentacle-lady who recently switched to my command under Princess Luka’s orders, and Smeragi, who seemed to have lost her mind.
Finally, seeing Jessica standing right behind me, her bunny ears perked up, I nodded with a sense of deep satisfaction.
However, the reason we gathered was solely to be quickly deployed as soon as the event started…
Contrary to my plans, the game’s management team poured cold water on the expectations of me and other users.

<General Notice>
<Update Delay Announcement>
<A message to all Commanders.>
<Due to a critical error found in the scheduled 'Ancient Empire's Remnants' event,>
<We will do our best to proceed with the update as quickly as possible, and a new notice will be posted once the update is completed.>

‘…What.’
I never expected the management to pull out the ‘extended maintenance’—no, ‘delayed maintenance’ sword, which they haven’t used in a long time.
So, I was left awkwardly standing with the superhumans gathered at the command center and the ships that had just finished their parade.
I decided to let the superhumans take a break for a while.
And just in case, I went into the gallery to check the reactions of other users.
Hmm… As expected.

Are we really being mentally kidnapped and held captive by this game?
It’s kinda annoying how the management keeps pulling this crap.

The users were setting the gallery on fire in the most spectacular way.
I nodded in agreement at the sight.

Now, blocking those who are spamming with time-delayed attacks.
I decided to wait until the event starts.
