Chapter 194: Cannon Fodder Is Not Cannon Fodder
As Mork had anticipated, Amons’ mission to the Orcs went smoothly.
Though it was disheartening to send a troop as cannon fodder for the Dark Elves, for the Orcs, dying on the battlefield was worth it.
Cannon fodder or not, it didn’t really matter.
What was important now was to eliminate the Human forces in front of them.
To deceive the Humans, the Dark Elves suggested that the Orcs dispatch a unit under the cover of darkness to the Dark Elf camp. Then, just as dawn broke, both sides would launch a fierce attack on the Humans’ encampment.
The Beast King agreed with this proposal.
As long as they could defeat the Humans in front of them, he was willing to accept nearly any suggestion from the Dark Elves.
After hearing Amons’ report, Mork chuckled, “Looks like those foolish Orcs are starting to sense something’s off.”
“Master, even if we help the Orcs defeat this Human force, the Humans don’t just have these troops. What will we do then?”
“We’ve only signed a pact to assist the Orcs this far; as for the rest, they’ll have to fend for themselves or adapt as needed.”
At this point, Mork felt a pang of uncertainty.
When he first joined forces with the Orcs, it was to prevent the Humans from growing too powerful.
If the Orcs were to vanish as a counterbalance to the Humans in the north, then the other races would be in big trouble.
After all, the Humans could redirect many personnel and resources to other fronts.
However, as things developed, Mork realized that this was no easy task.
The Humans were genuinely determined to eliminate the Orc faction.
If the Dark Elves continued to support the Orcs, it would inevitably lead to an all-out war with the Humans.
In such a prolonged conflict, the Dark Elves, given their numbers, wouldn’t be able to hold out for long.
After all, as drifters in this world, they lacked a stable rear support.
That night, an Orc troop quietly headed toward the Dark Elf camp.
To prevent being discovered, they deliberately took a longer route.
Aside from that, the Orcs were extra cautious during the process.
Meanwhile, the Humans remained completely oblivious to the Dark Elves and Orcs’ activities.
As dawn broke the next day, the Orcs set up their formation, preparing for the assault outside the Human camp.
At the same time, the Humans who had been awakened were gathering within their military encampment, gearing up for action.
Komit observed the outside Orc forces and felt an ominous premonition rising within him.
He couldn’t help but think too much about it.
Something felt off!
The timing of the Orcs’ attack was far too early today.
“Duke, it’s bad! The Dark Elves have also deployed!”
Just then, a soldier dashed over, shouting loudly.
Hearing the shout, Komit immediately turned to the running soldier and quickly made his way toward the other flank.
From the start, he had been wary of the Dark Elves.
But today, the Dark Elves had suddenly taken action; coupled with the Orcs’ unusual maneuvers, he suspected that his own flank had been discovered by the Dark Elves.
For the time being, he had no headspace to worry about the Orcs.
Fortunately, he wasn’t the only one in command; he could leave this to others to handle the overall situation.
On the other side, among the Human troops.
When Komit glanced over, he was taken aback by the scene before him.
In front of the Dark Elf lines were rows upon rows of burly Orcs.
Not only that, but the Orcs seemed to outnumber the Dark Elves.
Were these troops from the Dark Elves, or were they Orcs?
Anyone who laid eyes on this would undoubtedly wonder.
Even if the Dark Elves had kept Orc slaves, these Orcs didn’t give off the vibe of tamed subordinates.
Moreover, based on the intelligence, there couldn’t possibly be this many Orc slaves among the Dark Elves.
Komit didn’t dwell on this for too long.
His focus quickly shifted back to the overall battle situation.
After carefully observing the “Dark Elf” line, Komit turned his gaze back to his own troops.
From what he could see, his soldiers’ morale seemed pretty decent.
He felt a bit relieved.
The military spirit was solid!
This would save them a lot of trouble.
However, one thing puzzled Komit.
Since the soldiers were in good spirits, where was the flaw in their defenses?
What made the Dark Elves suddenly launch an attack on them?
By his calculations, the Dark Elves shouldn’t be this desperate.
Komit’s gaze gradually returned to the Orcs at the forefront of the Dark Elf line.
Upon seeing them, his heart sank.
He understood!
The Dark Elves were using the Orcs as cannon fodder to mitigate their casualties.
And the Orcs had accepted this condition in hopes of quickly defeating them.
In an instant, Komit’s mind was a whirlwind.
Though his camp had been fortified like a steel barrel, if the Dark Elves and Orcs truly threw caution to the wind and mounted an all-out assault, whether they could hold their ground was truly uncertain.
The Humans had little time to react.
Once everything was in position, the Dark Elves and Orcs simultaneously launched their attacks from two directions on the Human encampment.
The burly Orc warriors might not have the most orderly formation, but their imposing figures still exuded massive pressure.
However, the Human soldiers weren’t new to fighting Orcs—they had grown accustomed to it by now.
Before engaging in close combat, the Humans unleashed various ranged attacks on the Orcs.
Magic, bows, crossbows, and some siege weapons.
The Orcs desperately defended themselves.
Comparatively, the Dark Elves suffered fewer losses than the Orcs, making it seem like the Orcs were the ones being used as cannon fodder.
Yet, even as cannon fodder, the Dark Elves valued them highly and wouldn’t allow them to die in vain.
Thus, they cast numerous protective spells on them to help withstand Human attacks.
The colorful magic auras appeared quite enchanting, making those seemingly ugly Orcs somewhat appealing.
On the Orc side, the Orc warriors weren’t as fortunate.
They lacked abundant quality mages.
Most Orc warriors had to rely on themselves or leave their fate to chance.
Still, this didn’t stop the Orc warriors from advancing toward the Humans.
This time, the Orcs were serious about it.
Today, they had to achieve effective results.
The warriors stepped over the fallen bodies of their comrades, relentlessly closing in on the Human camp—this spirit of self-sacrifice was truly moving.
And thus, the battle began with fierce intensity.
If it were the past, the first wave of the Orcs’ assault would have been repelled by the Humans in a day.
Facing Orcs that were almost transformed compared to before, the Humans suddenly found themselves under immense pressure.
