Chapter 192: The Lights That Night
“Ugh…” Kafra wanted to say something, but her mouth opened and then slowly closed again.
What could I say? Ask for help from others? How can they save you? Why should they save you? What is there about me worth saving? It was just a bit of frustration, making myself seem so pitiful, trying to elicit sympathy from others. This wasn’t exactly what those people had said about me?
“I’m fine.”
She struggled to stand up, but the wound on her knee sent a sharp pain through her, causing her to stagger and almost fall again. At this moment, a pair of hands supported her, allowing her to stabilize herself.
Kafra looked at the figure in front of her again. This time, because she was closer, she could see his face clearly under the dim light.
Black hair, eyes as dark as night, a year or two younger than her, and that captivating face. These obvious features made her realize who he was. It must be Lolan, a classmate from the neighboring class, like a black lotus, making one want to immerse themselves in it. No wonder there were rumors saying that the eldest son of the Griffin Duke was pursuing her.
Such a person is not in the same world as me. She probably lives surrounded by kind faces.
“Thank you.”
After stabilizing herself, Kafra thanked him and then squatted down again to pick up the scattered books in the rain.
When squatting to find things, her slender legs wearing little leather shoes came into view.
How delicate, she suddenly thought with a sigh. Although standing in the rain, there were no stains on those shoes. The raindrops around seemed to be repelled by an invisible barrier.
Is this the ability of an Extraordinary Being? Unfortunately, I am only at Sequence 2 and have very limited abilities. As she felt for the books on the ground, Kafra’s mind was in turmoil. Even though the girl in front of her didn’t say anything else, just standing there made her previously almost collapsing mood improve, and some extreme thoughts gradually calmed down.
In the darkness, small green glowing balls floated slowly, illuminating the ground. Then, the two girls picked up the scattered pages in the rain together.
“Here.”
A white hand, like jade, held the books and papers she had picked up and handed them to Kafra.
“Thank you, thank you.” Kafra carefully accepted after saying it twice.
“It’s late, you must have studied hard. Sometimes you can take a break, being too tense for too long will harm your body.”
The black-haired girl kindly reminded her, then crouched down. With a faint glow, a cool sensation came from her knees. Kafra slightly lifted her leg, sensing it even in the darkness, knowing that the wound on her knee had healed.
“Thank you, Lolan.” She bowed again, grateful for the help from the girl in front of her, and her heart finally calmed down.
“Go take a bath and get a good sleep.”
“Mm, thank you, Lolan… goodbye.” Then, Kafra ran off again in the rain.
“What am I doing? Just running away after saying such a simple thing. I should properly thank her. But I don’t know how to start. Will saying too much make others think I have ulterior motives? Such a beautiful person, standing next to her would only cause misunderstandings.”
Her mind was in chaos for a long time before it slowly settled down.
Using her arm to shield her forehead, she carefully observed the puddles and potholes on the road, avoiding small stones. The rain was still cold, dripping from her chin to her neck, but now, her heart was not as broken as before. A warm peace filled her heart, bringing her peace. Even so, life still had to go on, didn’t it?
Back in the dormitory, ignoring her roommate’s surprised looks, Kafra put down her things and rushed into the bathroom, thoroughly washing herself before slowly coming out in clean pajamas.
She carefully checked the wound on her knee, finding only a slight difference in color, which would be barely noticeable after a few days.
She had been healed well by that person. A wave of gratitude and warmth washed over her heart again. But soon, the usual harsh voices returned.
“Where did you go this time? Are you still fooling around in the rain?”
“No way, Kafra wouldn’t dare.”
Previously, they only whispered behind her back, but seeing Kafra never refute them, many began to believe and boldly discuss and speculate. It seemed like a fact, as if it was natural. Now, they even dared to talk about it in front of her.
“I think we should tell the teacher and ask for a different roommate. Someone like Kafra affects our reputation.”
“That might not be good.”
“Why not? Do you want to be like her too? Tsk tsk, how dirty.”
Kafra clenched her fists, her nails digging into her flesh, sending waves of pain. She took a deep breath, exhaled slowly, released her fists, and continued walking toward her bedroom, pulling the covers over herself and falling asleep.
She was instructed by that person to sleep well tonight.
The few people in the hall continued their discussion.
“Really? Sleeping so early tonight? Didn’t she always study until late before?”
“Maybe she gave up, decided not to pretend anymore.”
“Alright, let’s stop talking.” One of them urged, and the others also went to bathe and lie down. The night passed quietly, only the sound of rain tapping against the glass window, leaving water marks.
In the following days, Kafra continued with her routine life, though people still mocked and speculated about her. However, she gradually learned to ignore them, until one evening.
Because she was eating alone in the dining hall, she went to the restroom halfway. When she returned, the food on the table had been cleared away. But that was not all; the books and notes she had left beside the table were nowhere to be found. These were the things she had collected since the beginning of the semester, her most important treasures, despite being soaked and swollen, they remained precious to her.
“Excuse me, have you seen my books and belongings here?”
She asked the staff in the restaurant, but because it was busy in the evening, no one noticed and all said they didn’t know. Afterward, she searched frantically in the internal bins and surroundings of the restaurant, but found nothing.

At another corner of the dining hall, several new students had just finished their meal and were preparing to leave.
“Nia, did you buy everything?”
“Yes, Alena.”
“Then let’s head downstairs. Oh, Lolan, where are you going?”
Letis watched Lolan Hill walk in another direction.
“You guys go first. I have something to do, I’ll come back later.”
Lolan Hill waved and walked towards a corner of the dining hall where a dispirited figure sat alone.
“Hello, may I ask your name? I’m Lolan.”
The black-haired girl, like a black lotus, stood in front of Kafra again.
During the evening, the candles in the dining hall burned quietly, casting a warm orange glow on her face. Her clear eyes, like black crystal, and her gentle voice echoed in the air.
She raised her head, her voice trembling.
“My name is Kafra.”
“I haven’t done anything wrong. I didn’t seduce anyone. I’m not shameless. I just want to study well and graduate smoothly… sob… sob…”
A hoarse voice accompanied by sobs, tears already soaking her face.
