Chapter 19: The Battle of the Abyss Part 1

Gentle sunlight was obscured by dark clouds.

A gentle breeze carried a faint scent of blood, stirring up dust and creating turbulent air currents.

It felt as if the world had turned dark and cold.

“Little Hill…”

Behind me, Elia hesitated to speak.

“Elia, retreat. I will find you.” I quickened my pace, not looking back, “Now, go.”

I clearly sensed the surging and agitated aura of the Abyss nearby, along with an innate sense of belonging that seemed etched in my bones. I forcibly suppressed the inexplicable unease within me.

“Elia, listen to Hill… your sister. Quickly leave. Don’t worry, I’ll go with her.”

Barry stepped forward.

“Barry! Stay back!”

“Hill…sister…”

“It’s coming, quickly…”

“Hillviga! I’m telling you, no matter who you are, Barry won’t abandon…”

“Rumble rumble rumble—”

Barry didn’t finish his sentence. A distant thunderous sound suddenly echoed. The ground trembled again, and countless familiar black smoke rose from the horizon, exploding like fireworks before converging into a massive black smoke ball.

“Whoosh whoosh whoosh—”

As the gathered smoke increased, the density of the smoke ball grew higher. In an instant, it solidified, raining down a torrent of black streams, resembling a deathly black sun, replacing the sun hidden by the clouds, hanging high in the sky.

Barry stared at this apocalyptic scene, swallowing hard. He couldn’t bring himself to say the big words he had intended.

Then a voice came from the sky.

“[Abyssal Language] Who… am I… What’s happening to me… I am… I… Clearly… I… Ah… Hahaha… I am… I am the will of the gods… I am… the endless abyss… slay.”

The voice initially sounded with a hint of doubt, as if trying to confirm something.

But then it rapidly transformed into a cold, emotionless tone, as if discarding its soul.

Before I could ponder the meaning, a howling gale struck.

“Boom!!! Whoosh whoosh whoosh—”

Countless giant black blades flew out of the smoke ball, sweeping across thousands of kilometers, launching a destructive, indiscriminate attack.

“Boom boom boom boom boom—!!”

The blades, accompanied by the wind, scattered and crashed into the ground, resembling powerful missiles. Explosions echoed endlessly, with earth and rocks, plants and trees scattering everywhere.

“Oh my God…”

Someone uttered a despairing exclamation. At the same moment, a blade flew straight toward me.

My pupils contracted, and I took a deep breath as blue stars appeared on my left hand.

“Ha!”

I pushed forward with all my might.

“Bang—crack crack crack!!”

With a series of sharp cracks, a huge ice wall erupted from the ground, blocking the black blade just as it arrived.

The ice wall stood like a small mountain, emitting bone-chilling cold even from afar. Frost residue scattered, turning into tiny ice particles, covering the villagers’ eyebrows and hair with a thin layer of frost.

Yet, this power beyond their comprehension was merely futile resistance against the black blade.

“Crack—!”

The black blade, unstoppable in its momentum, easily pierced through the sturdy ice block without slowing down.

My mind focused intensely, everything around me appearing in slow motion.

Seeing the ice wall crack, my body instinctively prepared to dodge.

Glancing back, I saw Elia, Barry, Allen, and the villagers. Their eyes wide open, mouths agape, unable to react, fear etched on their faces, waiting for death.

Gritting my teeth, I stopped.

Tiny black smoke rose from under my feet and palms, enveloping the large scythe in my hand.

All of this happened in an instant.

In Elia’s eyes, the usually weak and easily bullied Little Hill, looked at her once, her innocent face showing a seriousness she had never displayed before.

, lifting the scythe used for farm work, turned to face that terrifying force.

“Clang clang clang clang!!!!”

A fierce wind raged, sand and stones flying everywhere.

The sound of metal clashing seemed to want to tear apart one’s eardrums.

The entire world had turned black, with huge blades seemingly ready to swallow me whole.

At this moment, I felt as if I was facing the impact of a truck with my mortal body. The unstoppable force pushed my small body backward, leaving a long, deep scratch on the ground beneath my feet, about to crash into the people behind me.

“Aaaahhh!!!!!”

I let out a roar, forcefully raising the scythe in my hand.

“Swoosh——”

The blade flew over everyone’s heads, like a lightning bolt heading far away.

I took a deep breath, glanced at the deep notch on the back of the scythe, and my right hand trembled slightly.

“Quick! Go! I can’t protect you all!!!”

“Gulp.”

Behind me, Barry swallowed hard.

The big talk he had previously never uttered was now nowhere to be found.

“Go! Quickly go! Don’t cause more trouble for Sister Hill!!”

His eyes were filled with bloodshot redness, whether from guilt for holding back or fear of survival after the ordeal.

“Run!!!”

The villagers finally woke up from their stupor, carrying those who couldn’t move, and ran backward with all their might.

“Little Hill!!!” Aria shouted loudly at me, “We will wait for you to come back!!! You are! My sister!!! You must… come home!!!”

The little girl’s shout was unprecedentedly resolute. I turned and met her gaze, nodding gently.

Yes, definitely.

Even though that little house we called home had become ruins.

Watching them finally gradually moving away from the battlefield.

【Abyssal Language】…斩杀.

The demon’s whisper echoed again in my ears.

【Abyssal Language】I’ll cut your dad!!!

The voice, still somewhat childish, lacked any deterrent power in its angry roar.

But ice columns erupted underfoot.

During the time I stayed in the village, I naturally didn’t just act like a simple country girl. I never relaxed my practice of using strength. Up until now, excluding the black smoke, I could say I was quite proficient in using frost power.

Leveraging the thrust from the ice column, I leaped nearly twenty meters high, drawing an arc in the air, and immediately erected another ice column upon landing. Thus, continuously using the thrust from the ice columns, I quickly closed the distance with the ball of smoke.

The endless abyss did not release those terrifying blades again but somehow summoned numerous humanoid monsters with blades for hands and feet.

These monsters were completely black, despite having human forms, their bodies twisted into something unrecognizable. They wandered around the village, some even unable to walk properly, yet they always swiftly harvested life at first sight.

Flickering greenish-white lights rose from the ground, entering the smoke ball.

So, this is what the abyss is like.

Wherever it passes, everything is utterly destroyed, not even souls remain.

Anger filled my heart, turning my pupils blood-red.

I dived toward the ground, accurately landing in front of a monster, holding a nearly two-meter-long scythe high above.

A flash of cold light.

The monster’s head shot up into the sky, dispersing into black smoke in no time.

“Zeng——”

Without pausing, the huge scythe in my hand danced again, as Grandma Claire’s words echoed in my mind.

“Small steps firmly planted, bend down, left hand grabs, right hand sweeps. Power must be swift, knife must be steady.”

As easy as cutting wheat, with each swing of the scythe, at least one monster was taken down.

These little things were powerless against me.

But there were too many.

I dared not unleash the frost world here, as it would kill all the remaining villagers.

Is there any other way…

“Help! Help!!!”

Hearing loud cries for help nearby, I threw down the head of a monster, erected an ice column, and jumped up, seeing it was Ryan.

He was being relentlessly pursued by two monsters, desperately fleeing.

Without hesitation, I twisted my body in mid-air, changing direction like a cannonball, smashing towards them.
