Chapter 183: Airael as Support

Chapter 183: Airael as Support

Airael wasn’t quite clear if Mork recognized the Elven Race’s legendary artifact, the Staff of Eternity.

If he did, then her identity wouldn’t remain a secret to him.

That would mean he had a substantial leverage over her.

In her current situation, her identity absolutely couldn’t be exposed in human society.

Otherwise, Airael could only imagine the dire fate that awaited her.

And of course, Arthur would be dragged into it as well.

Because of these concerns, Airael couldn’t face Mork head-on in her full capacity, but her vast reserves of magic power and excellent magical talent were enough to make a significant contribution in combat.

Just like right now, she could maintain the Ice Field to prevent Mork from suddenly lunging at her with unexpected attacks.

Mork, whose movement was restricted, dared not linger any longer.

If he stayed here, the cold would completely freeze him.

With a stiff body, Mork began to back away, trying to break free from the frozen ground beneath him.

“Cain!”

Airael shouted.

Without needing much explanation from her, just by looking at Mork’s condition, Cain immediately understood Airael’s intent.

He urged his horse to charge quickly at Mork.

Mork saw Cain rushing towards him and realized that with his current stiff body, he wouldn’t be able to dodge like before.

He gripped his sword tightly.

The cold steel made him instinctively want to let go.

But if he released it, it would mean losing his weapon, leaving him in an even worse situation in the ongoing battle.

As Cain charged, Mork swung his sword to meet the descending strike from Cain.

The two swords clashed.

In the next moment, Mork, along with his sword, was sent flying.

However, due to his stiff movements, even with all his might, he couldn’t match the strength of Cain on a charging warhorse.

Though the collision made him look quite awkward, it allowed Mork to escape the range of Airael’s magic.

With the cold no longer replenished, it began to be suppressed by Mork’s inner strength.

Feeling the change within himself, Mork turned to Cain, who was still trying to attack him, and said with a grin, “I really should thank you for this.”

At this rate, it wouldn’t be long before he completely rid himself of the encroaching cold.

Of course, he would pay a certain price for that.

But it was definitely worth it.

Cain looked on, puzzled.

Airael, however, understood immediately.

Her expression shifted.

“I underestimated you earlier. You don’t seem very old, but your magical prowess is quite impressive. If you are human, then you truly are a one-of-a-kind genius.”

Mork immediately directed his gaze at Airael.

His words caused a jolt within her.

Did he realize she wasn’t human?

Airael glanced at the people around her and seeing no particular reactions, spoke up, “Well, thank you for the compliment. But I feel you may have underestimated humans; they’re stronger than you think.”

She neither confirmed nor denied, playing a game of ambiguous concepts with Mork.

“Hmph! Then let me see just how remarkable you all are.”

Mork declared the start of battle.

Then he launched an attack at Cain.

Due to the Ice Field, he couldn’t effectively attack Airael right now, so he would start with Cain.

“Cain, watch out!”

Noticing Mork’s actions, Airael immediately warned him.

However, Cain’s reaction to Mork’s swift movements was still a bit slow.

Although Cain was known for his speed, it just wasn’t enough against Mork.

Reluctantly, Airael had to cast a Magic Shield around Cain again.

Just as the shield formed, Mork suddenly altered his attack trajectory, rendering Airael’s magic wasted.

Mork reappeared, of course, right by Cain’s side.

Despite being somewhat prepared, Cain couldn’t easily withstand Mork’s assault.

In a fierce exchange, Cain and his horse were pushed back step by step.

In contrast, Mork stood firmly in place.

Just as Mork pressed his attack against Cain, Airael cast another shield for him.

This time, she entirely shielded Cain’s surroundings.

All of Mork’s subsequent attacks hit against the Ice Shields surrounding Cain.

With no effect from his assault, Mork retreated in time.

Cain tightened his grip on his sword, watching Mork successfully withdraw.

If Mork had lingered just a moment longer, he could have attacked when Mork was exhausted.

But alas, it was too late.

Airael felt regret in her heart over this turn of events.

However, she was more resolute about her role in this battle.

She would be a supporting mage, disrupting Mork’s capabilities using ice magic.

As for the rest, it would depend on Cain.

After coming to this conclusion, Airael began to take action again.

Just as she made a move, Mork looked over.

After the previous events, Mork would no longer underestimate Airael.

Once or twice, he could overlook it, but if it happened again, it would be a big problem.

And that familiar Cloak she wore was drawing his attention.

No matter if Airael was human or something else, her possession of that cloak meant her relationship with the Elven Race was quite extraordinary.

Noticing Airael’s movements, Cain also readied himself.

Although their interaction had been brief, they had developed a certain tacit understanding.

Moreover, through what had just occurred, he recognized that to battle Mork, he absolutely needed Airael’s assistance.

Whether in helping him or weakening Mork, Airael’s presence was critically important in this fight.

Ice Spear!

Just like before, Airael once again unleashed a wide-ranging magical attack towards Mork.

Chilling air enveloped the entire space.

Having learned from previous lessons, Mork no longer stood still to take Airael’s attacks but made himself quickly move, avoiding most of the incoming ice spears.

This allowed the majority of the chilling energy from the ice spears to have negligible effect on him.

The slight effects of the other spears were entirely inconsequential.
