After getting hit by an outdoor unit and coming back to life, Violet often attempted dangerous things despite the physical damage.
That was still all right. An octopus won’t hesitate to lose a leg if needed, and unlike planarians, they don’t fear getting chopped up.
Since gaining the ability to disperse pain while growing up, it has become even more the case.
Excessive physical loss or death often left scars on the mind, but thanks to the help of kind friends, Violet could overcome it well.
Thus, the issue of drug abuse was like someone else’s problem for Violet.
Damaged neurons or destroyed dopamine receptors could be reset easily. Theoretically, the brain could be soaked in drugs infinitely without issue.
“But drugs are unhealthy! Let’s only use them in fights.”
“Right, there’s no reason to do drugs for fun. We can enjoy life enough right now anyway.”
“By the way, you said Pinnacle Trade Network? Let’s check those guys out. Since I asked for an investigation, the location results should come out in a day or so. Just searching online would pull up their office location quickly!”
In Violet’s mind, the fate decreed for the thuggish organization that sent a resolver was death.
With a lot to do ahead, eliminating potential future troubles was the best course for everyone.
“Okay. First, let’s ask the people from Kalia to lend us some cars! We need a lot of vehicles. I think there’s a bus they don’t use.”
“Got it!”
While the Violets waited for the investigation, they were holed up in the barracks going through their work, and time flew by like a bullet.
Soon, it was the weekend.
In the evening, the Brotherhood members who had wrapped up the hospital ambush gathered at a pub run by one of the members.
“Phew… Uncle, I’d love to hold a welcome-back party, but please understand we can’t.”
“It’s okay. My body is a mess too… Ugh, right. I can see everyone looks like they have questions, so I should explain. Where I’ve been until now, what I’ve seen…”
The leader of the Brotherhood appeared thin and drained, but his eyes burned with determination. Ospri slowly began to explain in front of the members.
“You’ll probably remember the string of missing person cases that occurred nearby several months ago. They mostly happened to homeless individuals. Some of them were people being cared for at Wiley’s shelter. At first, I thought it was just simple missing cases. Marco, don’t you remember?”
A muscular man with a bushy beard nodded.
“Of course, I remember, boss. I’ve been there a few times to bring blankets or food supplies. I also remember Wiley being worried. But didn’t it just turn out to be gang-related?”
Ospri shook his head and continued.
“Until then, I thought it was the gang’s doing. But after Logan’s son was kidnapped, I felt something was off. Those guys were strangers to me. So, I began to investigate.”
The expressions of the Brotherhood members grew serious.
The attempted kidnapping of a neighbor’s child was still an unforgettable shock for them.
If Kalia hadn’t witnessed the kidnapping and chased after to rescue, they’d likely never have found the child.
“Just as expected, they weren’t a gang operating here. I thought they might be connected to the missing homeless case. I quietly began the investigation. I planned to let the members know later. Then I was ambushed.”
Ospri bowed his head in shame.
“I was a fool. They were an organization closely linked to clans. As soon as I was captured, I was sent to their lab.”
The members sighed.
“Damn bastards!”
“What are the police and the Inspection Bureau doing…”
Kalia asked.
“So, uncle, what exactly are those Pinnacle Network guys? I heard they’re a cover company.”
Ospri was about to explain when the door suddenly burst open, and soldiers in black combat uniforms with masks rushed in.
“What… what’s this? Who are you?!”
“Wait, aren’t those the mercenaries Kalia called last time?”
As the members murmured among themselves, a blonde girl, the only one not wearing a mask from the black troop, dragged a suited man with her.
The girl kicked the half-dressed man in front of the crowd, sending him crashing down.
The man groaned in pain and humiliation.
“Ugh! Ugh!”
“Uncle Ospri! I brought a bad guy here. This is the boss, right?”
“Y-yeah, this guy is the head of the Pinnacle Trade Network… but how…”
Seeing the man that Violet brought, everyone was taken aback.
The expressions on the Violets’ faces brightened.
If the members were reacting with ‘who is that?’, Kalia’s uncle was reacting with ‘why so fast?’
“Oh, right. Uncle! Don’t worry! The Pinnacle Trade Network is ceasing operations starting today!”
“You said you’re Kalia’s friend. What does that mean?”
I answered with a bright smile.
“Well, we smashed everything and killed them! For now, uncle, could you help the people outside? They were locked up, and it was tough to bring them here!”
I pointed outside the pub with my finger.
The members’ eyes grew wide as saucers. A number of buses and trucks were filled with people looking tired and in tattered clothes.
Everyone appeared quite distressed.
Ospri still looked weary but instructed the Brotherhood members.
While they went out to help the people and find ways to send them home, we talked with Kalia’s uncle.
“My goodness, I never thought it would happen… in just a day…”
“We still have a lot to do. There are still plenty of remnants left. There’s much you’ll need to help with, uncle!”
As I said, we hadn’t completely taken them down. They had a large scale due to the company cover, and they had many hidden locations.
“But it’s fine! We haven’t completely crushed the organization, but we killed nearly all the executives!”
“Impressive… Violet, when did you start preparing for this?”
Kalia’s face blossomed with a mix of admiration and surprise.
“Yeah, I’ll explain. Here’s how it happened…”
I began to explain. Uncle Ospri’s face froze in shock and horror.
According to the manager’s investigation, these guys were a cover company established by former hunters.
Surely, I didn’t know exactly what they were doing.
I discovered their true identity during the operation.
Their company was a crime organization that trafficked people under the pretense of job placement while smuggling drugs disguised as trade.
The Violets clicked their tongues while digging through the materials obtained on-site. Names of clans and companies they recognized appeared one after another.
“The Laplacian guys were dealing with them!”
Ironically, it was their mistake to have established a corporation, even nominally.
They owned a small building with an office attached.
If we knew its location, it would be simple to raid them.
“What, what’s all this about?”
“Die! Ah, I won’t kill you. Just take a beating!”
“Uurgh!”
We initially ambushed the lower subordinates and beat them up.
Then we figured out the locations of the mid-level executives and hit them next.
After securing information on drugs and human trafficking here, we proceeded directly to capture the boss.
The leader of the Pinnacle Trade Network—self-proclaimed chairman—was living in a pretty impressive mansion in the affluent Central District.
The pool and garden attached were enormous. More luxurious than Irene’s penthouse.
“How dare a criminal live in a place like this!”
“Take this, Melting Ray!”
A high-temperature ray shot out from the end of the magic staff.
The high-level offensive magic melted the mansion’s front door and set the garden and pool ablaze.
Immediately, we stormed into his house.
Upon seeing the boss having fun with a drugged-up hostess on the second-floor balcony, my anger flared.
“Hey! Criminal! Surrender!”
“What… do you know where this is?!”
As expected from a former hunter, the boss resisted with a weapon, but he eventually had to get beaten up in front of countless Violets.
“Ugh, ugh! You bastards! I won’t let this go!”
“We’ve never been the type to sit back and do nothing!”
After bringing down the organization, we rescued the poor people trapped in their base.
As a bonus, we also picked up the drugs they were dealing with.
“Black Ice!”
“…so this is what happened!”
Once the explanation finished, the leader of the Brotherhood sighed.
“…I just heard from Kalia a moment ago. Not only did you save our Kalia, but you also resolved the kidnapping incident. How am I supposed to repay this kindness…”
“Kindness? You don’t have to repay that… hehe…”
As I scratched my head and laughed, I remembered something I had forgotten. Since the timing was good, I ought to ask now.
“Then uncle. Could you help with this? I heard the Brotherhood members know a bit about vehicles…”
“Really? Just tell me what you need. I’ll do my best to help…”
I slowly brought up my demands. Kalia’s uncle’s expression hardened.
“…Trucks and construction equipment? I think there might be some misunderstanding. While it’s true that many of my members have experience in that area, we’re not professional dealers. We just have some connections. And modifications?”
“I need them for rough uses, so we’ll need to tear down the vehicles and modify them. A lot! Can you do tuning?”
We waited for Uncle Ospri’s response. This was a necessary component of our plan.
“Alright, let’s at least hear what you’re gonna use it for.”
After a while, once he snapped back to reality, Uncle answered positively.
The Violets internally cheered. The path to securing technical equipment had opened.
The Violets’ vehicle corps was not far off.
