Chapter 165: New Student Registration
In the heart of the Sighing Mountains, towering peaks stretched endlessly. Below the mountains, a vast river wound its way, nearly a thousand meters wide. The plains along the riverbanks were formed by sediment deposits, with the southern part being smaller and the northern part larger. A magnificent giant bridge spanned the river, connecting the north and south. Both sides of the bridge had sturdy bastions, and the entrance to the bridge was even over a hundred meters high, allowing even a dragon to spread its wings and fly through.
With a loud rumbling sound, Lolan Hill’s airship slowly landed. As the gentle sound of gears turning filled the air, the cabin door slowly opened. The passengers on the airship descended the stairs in an orderly manner under the supervision of the staff.
Stepping out of the cabin, Lolan Hill was greeted by a bustling and noisy scene. People from various nations and races across the continent gathered here. Some had come to see off new students, others were travelers passing through, and still, others were merchants taking advantage of the start of the school term to do business.
“It’s rather cold.”
The dew-covered grass was still damp underfoot, and the air retained a chill. Jenna’s coat seemed thin, and she felt somewhat unaccustomed as she stamped her feet and rubbed her hands, exhaling white vapor.
Lolan Hill followed behind, descending the stairs. Outside the airship’s landing area was a cluster of tents of various sizes. People walked in and out of these tents intermittently. Some wore fur coats in a style reminiscent of the grasslands, with additional ears and horns on their heads. They were orcs from the ancient Fia Alliance.
As Lolan Hill passed by an orc with leopard ears, a smell of long-term contact with livestock could be detected, mingled with the scent of fresh grass. Clearly, he should be a shepherd.
Since the rise of humans, the number of orcs in the Ivar World had greatly decreased. A thousand years after the fall of the orcish Rampant Fang Empire, the human nations of today were much more tolerant towards orcs and no longer so hostile.
Passing through these tents and crowds, ahead lay a circular square. Knights clad in cloaks and armor stood around the square maintaining order. In the center of the square was a row of tables where new students registered.
Lolan Hill carried a wicker box and joined the queue, waiting in line. Jenna followed closely behind. The staff members in front checked recommendation letters according to the process and had the new students fill out some forms. It took nearly an hour before it was Lolan Hill’s turn.
“Hello, I am a student from Clancia. Here is my recommendation letter.”说完,少女将一个精致的黑色信封递了过去。
“Clancia? How rare.”
The gray-bearded staff member checking the letters was a bit surprised. Last year’s war between the West Wind and Clancia had rendered most of the originally allocated slots for the West Wind almost useless. By the time Clancia was officially established, it had missed the deadline for submitting recommendation slots. Thus, this year, there were very few students from the former West Wind, or rather, Clancia, and it would likely take until next year to return to normal.
The middle-aged man with white hair carefully opened the seal on the envelope and then compared it with the list of names and codes on the form. The number of annual admissions to Emanas was fixed and usually distributed to various countries and organizations in advance. When the students arrived, they would present their recommendation letters, which the academy would verify against the codes and recommenders provided. This process was very similar to the invitation code system in Loran Hill’s previous life.
“Alright, everything is registered. Here is your badge. Please keep it safe. Report to the square the day after tomorrow in the morning.”
After recording the young lady’s information, the gray-bearded uncle handed Loran Hill a white badge adorned with the pattern of the central school building of Emanas, which was very exquisite.
“Hello, I am the new student from the Black Rock Principality, Jena.” Following the same procedure, Jena also received a badge.
Just as Jena was examining her badge, the crowd beside her suddenly became noisy. Soon after, she felt a slight tremor underfoot, followed by the sound of密集的马蹄声 from a distance.
A group of knights dressed in bright armor approached in an orderly formation from afar. They wore silver armor, and their horses were white, with a spiral unicorn horn on their heads. In their right hands, they held white lances, only the tips of which were a frosty blue, while their left hands carried shields emblazoned with a blue background and white unicorn, the emblem of the four great ducal families of the Verdant Empire, the Landsworth family.
“The knights of the Landsworth family have arrived?”
“It should be a direct descendant reporting. Otherwise, they wouldn’t send out these personal guards.”
“I wonder who it is. I heard that the Duke of Landsworth has elf blood, and all the heirs are very beautiful.”
“The descendants of the Landsworth family are all so elegant, like graceful poets. I’m looking forward to seeing who it will be this time.”
“They’re here.”
Amidst the chatter of the crowd, these well-disciplined knights halted their horses and stood at the edge of the square. A luxurious carriage, mainly in blue and white tones, also stopped. The light blue silk skirt first appeared from
The car door opened, and then a golden-haired girl appeared before everyone’s eyes, her hair like the sun. Then the young lady raised her head, revealing eyes as blue as a lake, stunning everyone present with her exquisite beauty.
“Who is that girl!?”
“I don’t know.”
“Such a beautiful face and noble bearing, she must be from the main line of the Landsworth family, right?”
“Yes, she is none other than the seventh daughter of the Landsworth family, Froseria, known as the Sun Jewel of the Landsworths.” Finally, a nobleman from a verdant lineage recognized the young lady.
The surrounding onlookers had long been dispersed, and several servants laid down a soft red carpet between the carriage and the registration point. The duchess with golden hair stepped onto the carpet in shoes slightly darker than her dress, and under the protection of the knights, she arrived at the registration point in the square.
Lolan Hill stood among the crowd, separated by the unicorn knights, watching the beloved duchess pass by.
Indeed, she was very beautiful, perhaps even more so than Wind, Lolan Hill thought to herself.
Roar!
Suddenly, a terrifying roar echoed from the sky, like a summer thunderclap, resounding through the sky and earth. Some of the timid people even sat down out of fright, causing the crowd in the square to sway. Where did this roar of an ancient beast come from? It was only then that the people noticed several black dots appearing in the eastern sky. Soon, these dots rapidly approached, and they realized that those were dragons soaring through the sky!
The deep red dragon’s wings spread over a hundred meters wide, flying through the clouds. As the dragon’s roar grew closer, the people on the ground finally saw that there were riders on the dragon’s back. The dragon knights wore golden armor resembling scales, and their hands tightly gripped dragon lances adorned with banners. The flags, with a black background, displayed the emblem of the House of Plantagenet and the dancing dragon.
These dragons and dragon knights came from the distant Eastern Continent. According to many historical records and travelogues, the Eastern Continent was nearly as vast as the Western Continent but had only one powerful centralized nation—the dragon-loving country ruled by the thousand-year-old Plantagenet dynasty.
