Chapter 15: Airael’s Grand Victory
“Seriously, do I have to keep running away from you?”
Axi couldn’t help but complain inwardly.
Although they hadn’t known each other for long, Axi had already sensed Airael was a tough nut to crack.
Airael was definitely not like anyone he had encountered before.
As Airael stopped right in front of him, Axi countered, “Why do you insist on following me?”
Axi’s rebuttal left Airael momentarily speechless.
It seemed she was being a bit unreasonable.
But hey, if she wanted to be unreasonable, so be it!
Besides, they were the only two people here, and there was no one to settle their disputes.
With a determined look, Airael stated, “Didn’t I say? I’m interested in you, so I want to get to know you better. Can’t you at least allow me that?”
While saying this, she gestured with her hand, forming a shape close to an “O” with a “C” to strengthen her argument.
If you didn’t look closely, you might have mistaken the “C” for an “O.”
Axi’s gaze followed Airael’s hand.
Without hesitation, he replied, “No way!”
He was absolutely unwilling to budge!
“Ugh! Why not?”
“Because I said so!”
Axi’s response was firm, clearly showing he was ticked off by Airael.
“Don’t you want to at least try to let me know you? Maybe we could become friends or something?”
Airael began to take a gentler approach.
According to his intel, Axi was quite powerful, likely at Ninth-level or above.
While she excelled in both magic and martial arts, now reaching an advanced level, it still paled in comparison to the major transformation of someone at Ninth-level to Tenth-level.
Airael’s sudden change in demeanor caught Axi off-guard.
That was one fast mood swing!
Was it true that women were like this?
But that still didn’t touch his heart, and soon he regained his composure, indicating he had no interest in what Airael was saying.
“Don’t you want to make a friend to travel or go on adventures with?”
Airael didn’t give up and continued to ask.
“I’m a mercenary, executing a mission—not traveling or adventuring.”
Looking at Axi, Airael suddenly smiled and asked, “Then can I ask you a few questions?”
Although Axi couldn’t see Airael’s cunning smile under her cloak, he instinctively sensed something was off.
Seeing his hesitation, Airael quickly added, “Don’t rush to refuse. Let’s make a bet: if my questions prove my point, you have to let me follow you. If not, I’ll leave you alone immediately.”
Axi still felt something was off, but the reward for winning was very tempting.
If he won, he could shake off Airael.
As for losing, Axi didn’t think it would be that bad.
With Airael’s current attitude, she would likely keep nagging him for quite a while.
Her nagging equated to following him; it was just that he wasn’t on board.
Given Airael’s earlier display of skill, it would be tough to get rid of her.
So, in Axi’s eyes, the situation wasn’t going to change much.
“What are the questions? What’s your point?”
Thus, Airael quickly got the answer she desired.
“The questions can wait. Let’s talk about the point first. Our argument revolves around what you just said.”
Axi looked puzzled.
Airael explained, “It’s simple. You just said you’re a mercenary, unrelated to travelers or adventurers, right? So let’s prove whether mercenaries have any connection to travelers and adventurers. If they do, I win, and you let me stay by your side. If not, you win, and I leave you. The answer lies in the questions I’ll ask next.”
“Go ahead,” Axi nodded, indicating he understood.
He was all in!
It all came down to this!
Seeing Axi’s determination, Airael felt a surge of excitement, raising a finger in front of her and saying, “Alright! First question: Do mercenaries have to leave their hometowns to carry out missions?”
“Yes!” Axi replied without hesitation.
That was an undeniable fact, no rejecting it.
Airael smiled brightly at his response: “Travelers and adventurers do the same—they also leave their hometowns for distant lands. Agree or disagree?”
“Agree!” Axi’s expression darkened.
At this point, he had realized he had fallen into Airael’s cleverly laid trap.
And Airael was using his own words against him.
Thinking about it, Axi couldn’t help but admire Airael even more.
Not just skilled, but sharp-minded as well!
Definitely not the big-chested, brainless type!
With that thought, Axi unconsciously glanced at Airael’s chest.
Though concealed beneath her cloak, he could make out the general outline.
Airael’s figure was pleasantly proportioned—neither too big nor too small, just right.
Axi nodded to himself.
Of course, with such a sharp mind, her development couldn’t possibly be that impressive. No, it should be somewhat average.
While Airael wasn’t lacking, she was far behind the voluptuous figures he had seen previously.
Like the receptionist Teresa from the mercenary guild.
And he had encountered quite a few more impressive than Teresa.
As Axi pondered, he suddenly realized he had strayed off-topic.
Oh no! What was I just thinking about?!
Airael looked at Axi with suspicion.
She had felt his gaze shift from friendly to something different.
Only then did she realize she might have walked right into a potential trap herself.
After all, she was a beautiful lady, and Axi was a young man full of energy.
Even if Axi had previously resisted her charm, who’s to say he wouldn’t eventually fall for her allure?
Fire and dry wood ignite easily.
Especially considering they would be spending a lot of time together, it was inevitable that he would see her true self beneath the cloak.
Airael was quite confident in the appeal of her true form.
I’m the most beautiful woman in this world—who dares to disagree?
