Chapter 15: I Said It
The envious forms of living beings, water can transform into a hundred shapes of forestry, without constant momentum, and without a fixed form. Just so happened that Queen Avenue was located in the Linjiang District, where there was an abundant supply of water.
“Kwa kwa,” a water-formed frog leaped vividly on the ground.
Upon seeing this, one security guard went in to report first while the other stayed behind to greet them.
“It’s fine, enjoy yourselves.”
Without any guide, the two girls could only move forward by themselves. Bai Ling seemed to know the way, walking straight in one direction after entering.
Yuan Xiaoling followed closely behind her, fearing she might lose sight of her. There were quite a few people in the bar hall, the lighting wasn’t particularly bright, and from afar, they could hear the sound of someone singing on stage.
“Beauty, would you like a drink?” A bartender appeared before her with a drink. “I’ve specially prepared it for you; it’s the trendy sparkling wine mixed with a touch of charming youthfulness.”
Yuan Xiaoling was about to say she’s a good girl who doesn’t drink alcohol when Bai Ling’s voice came from beside her:
“She already has company.”
The bartender saw a pair of crimson eyes and involuntarily shivered, quickly apologizing.
“Don’t run around recklessly,” Bai Ling held Yuan Xiaoling’s hand and continued walking, “Stay close.”
“I didn’t run around…”
It was clearly the other person who approached them.
After passing through the corridor behind the bar hall, the lights became brighter, and there were fewer people. Bai Ling walked toward the inner second floor but was stopped by two women.
“Sorry, this passage is not allowed.”
“I’m here to see your boss,” Bai Ling said indifferently, “You’d better ask him.”
“But…”
The woman in the jacket was about to finish speaking when she suddenly heard a voice in her earpiece, softly responding “Alright, boss,” then nodded to Bai Ling: “Follow me.”
Walking upstairs, they entered a guest room first, and the room inside was where the boss was located.
Bai Ling stopped at the door, turning to Yuan Xiaoling: “Wait outside for a moment.”
“Oh, okay.”
Yuan Xiaoling understood clearly; if negotiations failed, Bai Ling would directly use deadly force, and not allowing entry was to prevent her from being scared by the gruesome scene inside.
Pushing the door open and walking through a short corridor, Bai Ling met the boss here, Luo Zhou Cheng, the intermediary of Tianhai City.
A man in his thirties, wearing high-end gray casual clothes, well-groomed, looking like an upper-class person on vacation.
“You’ve arrived,” he said, “Sit down.”
On the table were two fax papers, separately detailing today’s explosion report at Tianhai Plaza’s coffee shop and the headless corpse case on the rooftop terrace of the surrounding small building.
A beautifully dressed woman entered from the side door, pouring tea for both of them.
“Since you know who I am, just get to the point,” Bai Ling didn’t even look at the woman pouring tea, “Who’s the employer?”
In the outer guest room, Yuan Xiaoling found a spot on the sofa and sat down. The two women guarding the stairs also sat over, bringing some tea snacks and snacks.
“Little sister sure has grown up, how old are you this year?”
“Second year of university.”
“Pretty and cute, are you with the girl who came earlier?”
“Uh-huh.”
After a bit of chat, they could be considered somewhat familiar. These two women guarding the stairs, the one in the jacket named Ah Lan, and the one in the tank top named Ting Ting, were both capable spiritual energy manipulators with certain fighting abilities.
After chatting casually, Yuan Xiaoling curiously asked, “Isn’t this place a bar? How did it end up dealing with life-and-death matters?”
“The bar is just a place to gather people. Our original purpose here is to provide some highly rewarding commissions for special individuals. The employers don’t necessarily have to be capable ones; as long as they can pay the price, it’s fine.”
“Lighter jobs include bodyguarding, escorting, safeguarding valuables, etc., darker ones involve intimidation, destruction, theft, or revenge killings,” Ting Ting took over, “But we’re just intermediaries; the people hiring and doing the job have no relation to us.”
Yuan Xiaoling recalled the people downstairs singing, drinking, and dancing: “Are there really so many ability users coming here for business?”
Ah Lan smiled: “Of course, awakening to spiritual power is quite accidental. Most of them used to be ordinary people. Having special abilities, naturally they wouldn’t want to work hard like before. Like that guy, the… ”
“Peter Parker.” Ting Ting said.
“Right, Peter Parker.”
Yuan Xiaoling slightly startled: “What does this have to do with Spider-Man?”
“You see, even the fictional superhero Spider-Man exchanges his photos for money,” Big Sister Lan said, “Let alone ordinary people without such high moral standards.”
Ting Ting sighed: “Once experienced the sea, all other waters seem insipid.”
“That, if the target of the hired assassination comes knocking,” Yuan Xiaoling cautiously asked, “Would you provide the employer’s information?”
Big Sister Lan and Ting Ting exchanged glances and shook their heads.
“That’s something only the boss can decide. Let’s talk about something else. Little Beauty Ning Ning, you and that girl, you two are… you know?” Ting Ting made a gesture.
Both hands’ fingers bent into two circles, then linked together.
Yuan Xiaoling’s face turned red: “How did you figure it out?”
Meanwhile.
Luo Zhou Cheng shook his head: “I cannot disclose the employer’s information, it concerns my credibility. I welcome Miss White to visit the bar, but if it’s for this reason, I’m afraid it will be disappointing.”
He pulled out a large cigar from the cigar box, cut it open, and held it in his hand. The beautiful woman immediately stepped forward, pulling out a lighter from under the cabinet.
“I don’t like the smell of smoke.” Bai Ling said.
“In that case, I apologize, please leave.” Luo Zhou Cheng didn’t care much.
Biting the cigar, he leaned towards the lighter in the beautiful woman’s hand. This understanding woman had been his personal assistant for a long time, always favored and trusted.
But several seconds passed, and the lighter remained unpressed.
“I said,” Bai Ling pronounced each word clearly, “I don’t like the smell of smoke.”
Luo Zhou Cheng looked up and saw the woman frozen, her face still maintaining a smile from a certain frame.
…
“It’s simple, it’s obvious, you two…”
Yuan Xiaoling lowered her little head, waiting for a long time but received no continuation, feeling secretly pleased.
“Haha, I knew you were bluffing, using scare tactics, actually, I was just joking earlier, trying to counter-bluff you.”
She thought these two couldn’t come up with anything, but upon closer inspection, she realized they had “paused time.”
Yuan Xiaoling stood up to peek inside and quietly sat back down.
Not knowing the situation, it’s better to behave obediently.
…
Luo Zhou Cheng remained silent for a long time until beads of sweat rolled down his forehead.
“He… didn’t personally come here, sent messages via mobile phone, online transfer, the phone number was also a virtual one, only known as ‘Mr. Gray.'”
After observing Bai Ling’s expression, Luo Zhou Cheng continued: “However, after today’s case report came out, he contacted me again with another number, increasing the remuneration, asking me to find more powerful hitmen.”
