Chapter 140: Diana, Just So-So
On Wednesday evening, Dark sat in the library, lost in thought.
From the beginning of the month until now, he had drawn the Capital Sins a total of eight times.
He had drawn “Pride” twice, accumulating three points.
He had drawn “Bliss” six times, accumulating nine points.
In this past week, Dark had been busy with assignments and experiments, leaving him no time for anything else.
How could the great “Bliss” not have grown at all!
Originally, “Bliss” only had 110 points. After drawing nine points, it was reduced to just 101 points.
Of these 101 points, only one point could be drawn using the “蜻蜓点水法” technique.
Unless he took the risk of using the formal method and inserting the Mana Dropper into his brain.
Otherwise, he could only stop here.
Or perhaps artificially increase “Bliss”?
…
“According to calculations, I have drawn the Capital Sins eight times so far. Tomorrow and the day after, I can draw once more each day, adding up to three points. I need to raise ‘Bliss’ to 104 points to meet the requirement.”
“Or give up on ‘Bliss’ and focus on ‘Pride’. ‘Pride’ has 102 points left, and I can only draw once more.”
“Still, I should try to increase ‘Bliss.'”
“‘Bliss’ has the support of the Flower Cards; even if it slightly overflows, it’s the safest choice.”
“Moreover, the ways to increase ‘Bliss’ are very clear and numerous.”
“Alright then!”
After making his decision, Dark looked up at Diana sitting opposite him, his eyes flickering with a subtle light.
Tuesday’s arithmetic class had assigned a lot of homework. With tomorrow being Thursday, the first lesson was the deadline for submitting the homework. Many first-year students who hadn’t completed their arithmetic homework were rushing to the library to finish it.
Diana and Rose were among them.
Every time they came to the library, they always sat opposite Dark, as if it had become their designated seats.
Because Dark always taught them to think more and rely on their own abilities to solve problems.
Therefore, both of them were furrowing their brows, deeply pondering, rather than immediately asking Dark for help when faced with difficulties.
This was certainly a good sign.
Even though Diana wasn’t particularly smart, first-year arithmetic wasn’t really that difficult.
If they worked hard, they could lay a solid foundation.
This would greatly benefit their second-year studies.
Arithmetic is the foundation of everything. Whether it’s Summoning Spells, Potions, Mana Theory, duels, or the compilation of Mana Language, arithmetic is involved.
Many students, upon reaching the second year, have to endlessly make up for their lack of foundational knowledge, which hinders their further studies.
Dark didn’t want to see his only two same-grade friends fall into the abyss of remedial classes.
But getting along with them as a mentor for too long wasn’t entirely positive.
Dark couldn’t help but narrow his eyes. He hadn’t paid proper attention to Diana and Rose in a long time.
Diana had silver hair.
In the kingdom, silver and gold hair were symbols of noble bloodlines.
Diana’s mother was a close relative of the royal family, so she had a bit of royal bloodline.
Thus, she inherited her mother’s silver hair, slightly different from the characteristic brown hair of the Gretbail Family.
Rose had golden hair.
It was a very pale, almost translucent light gold.
Her family, the Floret Family, used to be a great noble house, but declined during wartime, leaving only her uncle’s lineage.
Unlike the round-faced Diana, Rose already had the charm of a beauty, her face transitioning towards an almond shape, with a gentle and delicate demeanor, making her appear pitifully endearing, causing people to want to take care of her.
Dark had never paid much attention to her before, but now he suddenly realized that he had such potential right beside him.
But after carefully observing Rose, even as her face turned red, he still didn’t sense any awakening of power.
“It won’t work…”
Out of desperation, Dark’s gaze shifted back to Diana.
Diana’s plump, tender face always made him want to reach out and pinch it.
This impulse still existed.
But for some reason, the power remained calm like a lake.
It seemed that Diana was just so-so.
Bored.
“Is this the growth of one’s mentality?”
Dark pondered the reasons.
“Simple visual contact is no longer enough to cause my heart to fluctuate?”
Dark tidied up his things, took out his self-study notebook on Mana Language from his bag, flipped through it, and stood up.
Diana curiously asked, “Dark, where are you going?”
Dark raised his notebook, “I’m going to ask someone about a problem.”
Diana: “Oh.”
…
At the library’s front desk.
Pandora Dragon was reading and taking notes.
She had a good memory, able to read ten lines at a glance, with her notebook filled with dense notes.
The sudden increase in recent assignments made her feel slightly troubled, given her tight schedule.
She had no choice but to use the breaks between work to complete her assignments.
Originally, this time was meant for leisure.
After finishing her homework, she put down her pen and picked up a book titled “Secret Rituals of Dragons” to continue reading.
“Secret Rituals of Dragons,” even in St. Maryan’s library, was kept in the restricted section.
However, she had obtained authorization from the professors to borrow books from this section.
Once she internalized the knowledge in this book, her summoning of dragon species would become more proficient.
“Senior, register.”
Pandora looked up at Wit and Robert at the counter and handed them the entry logbook.
The name of the Hero’s Child was quite well-known, especially after the gathering last Wednesday afternoon, when those who weren’t paying much attention to him were forced to recognize him again.
“Have your assignments increased?” Pandora casually asked.
The Hero’s Child rarely appeared in the library, but recently he had come every day, which inevitably made people think it was due to assignment pressure.
But when she casually asked, Wit became nervous. This was the first time Pandora Senior had initiated a conversation with him!
Only after Robert nudged his arm did he scratch his head and say, “Yes, they have. I don’t know what the professors are thinking? The learning pressure was already heavy enough.”
Pandora nodded slightly, “It seems this isn’t just a grade phenomenon.”
Then she took back the entry logbook and continued reading.
Wit opened his mouth, wanting to say something, but suddenly saw a familiar person walking out.
Dark hadn’t expected to encounter the Hero duo here, but it didn’t affect him.
However, Wit felt somewhat awkward, and Robert’s expression was off.
Dark hesitated for a moment, nodded to the two of them as a courtesy, and then naturally walked to the counter, pulled a chair next to his senior, and asked, “Senior, do you have time?”
